Just like that. Money back and see ya later? No trying to see if there were toe plugs to remove etc. Double check to see if they sent the right skates via the barcode on the skates? Are these your first or second skates with true? Kind of surprised the store would give you a refund as True is the one that collected your money. I guess if it's that off there's really no tinkering you can do.

My beef isn't so much with the durability of true skates. Imo they are constructed very well and the two pairs I've had showed no signs of any major issues, or even QC issues aside from my one skate's tongue tab. I believe it when you say there haven't been any major issues with the shop you got your Trues from but the post I linked on Reddit weren't major issues. They were what I would consider easy fixes... The holders should've been a simple swap which if it happened at the lhs I got my trues from, the shop would've done that right then and there without me having to send it back to true. For the tongue tab, anything short of a toe cap replacement if the skate is still under warranty is unacceptable imo. A warranty repair should not leave the skate looking like the repair was done by fifth grader. Even if it was out of warranty and I paid true to fix the issue, that is not something I would expect. I have a feeling that replacing the entire toe cap is a lot of work just by looking at how the boot is constructed. I'm not sure how often they have the tongue tab issues come up, but if it's something that's somewhat common, maybe they should redesign that part. Imo, a better "fix" for the broken tongue tab would be cementing a longer piece of plastic that is anchored underneath the top of the toe cap which extends out the front creating the new "tab". Rather than plastering glue and epoxy all over the existing broken one.

I'm not saying that it reflects true as a whole etc. But just posting it out there. From my personal experience and reading that post it's clear their "repair" process is kind of a joke. There are pictures posted on their of the guys experience. Also, there are lots of true supporters on Reddit.

It's weird that he completely stopped using Bauer for everything... You would think even if his contract was up etc he would still use something that he liked, unless he never really liked Bauer and did it for the endorsement... Or he tried CCM and genuinely likes the CCM bucket gloves and skates better.

The comfort foam was optional wasn't it? And it does say when added it'll reduce the width of the boot slightly.
-
Did u bake them? The big issue I had with my as1 (retail) was that my pinky toe was aggravated by the piece of plastic on the toe cap where the toe cap met the boot. I had to put a piece of foam there to alleviate it ..

Depends on the material. Thermoformable materials shouldnt really go back to its normal position if heated to the right temperature and allowed to cool completely. I do agree with the getting something that's too big to go smaller though, depending on how much it has to reduce by.. Ccms custom process just shows how it's not really that custom in terms of the actual fit if they can only make boots a certain heel cup size without pre fabricating the shell.
-
If they had a d width boot and high pressure moulded it to ur last wouldn't it technically form to your smaller heel? The benefit of the high pressure moulding they use is the ability to have the boot form very closely to your last so it's pretty much as close as you're gonna get to a perfect fit.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm staying away from socks that are ultra thin like thinees as I've already tried those and don't like them. All I'm really looking for is a sock that's not too thick like athletic socks but not as thin as thinees... Biggest thing is that they aren't super slick like some polyester socks can be since my skate liners are clarino and the two materials together seem to cause some slippage. My UA liners are actually perfect once worn in a bit and the socks roughen up on the outside a bit and aren't so smooth and soft .. but I wanted to see if there was something that wild fit that way out of box. I might be SOL..
-
Bumping this bc I go through diff socks like no one's business. Thinees were way too thin. The UA hockey liner is comfy but a bit too much padding in the sole and heel than I like bc it feels a bit bunchy in my heel with skates on. Once they wear a bit and get a bit thin I really like them though. Tried Hanes cotton over calf socks which are decent esp for the price but maybe a touch on the thick side. I want to try swiftwick... But looking at Howie's new skate socks, they almost looks identical. Can someone confirm whether the Howie's socks are actually made by swiftwick?? https://swiftwick.com/collections/hockey https://howieshockeytape.ca/collections/skate-socks/products/pro-style-skate-socks
-
Just get Howie's and be done with it. A lot of non waxed are thick and poofy like those. I personally like waxed laces even with my trues bc I don't like the poofy look.

As in what brand? If so they seem like elite unwaxed to me but I'm probably wrong.... I think it was posted here a few pages back.

After a couple mths you may want to rebake one more time to really dial it in even more, after its broken in a bit more since things pack in a bit such as the tongue etc. Totally up to you though. That's what I did.
-
It's all about just getting used to the new boot feel. The on ice performance is different from how it feels walking around etc, partially because of what I described regarding the deeper heel pocket. And with retail skates for some ppl they are either painfully tight or really loose. Those who opt for true usually had some issues they couldn't solve with retail skates, and even though the retail skates werent comfortable and didn't fit "properly", you get used to it and think that the fit was how the skate "should" feel. It's really not comparable and some ppl can't adapt. As I said before it's not for everyone.

Stick em in the fridge to accelerate the curing. I know SVH says a few hrs minimum but I would throw them in the fridge until your game to be safe.
-
This. I couldn't believe how much it forces me into a more forward bend, but also what surprised me was that it felt natural and I didn't need to really adjust too much to get used to it. And also longer stronger strides instead of smaller choppy ones. I felt like I was slower bc my legs weren't moving quickly but I was winning races

From the pics it looks like the new tongue.

Why don't manufacturers use Poron or D30 in skates?
Sniper9 replied to shoot_the_goalie's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Ya but these companies already use it on their protective line, ie. Ccm's As1line -
I have the ft1 shins and they are very light and low profile but I have a feeling they aren't as protective as others in the same price range.
-
It's fine to lace it all the way. Just safer not to in the event they lace it up too tight.

Where did you go to btw. Might have been mentioned earlier but I don't remember. It amazes me how incompetent some dealers' staff members are.... Even the place I went to for my second pair of trues, they have sold the most in the west coast since the VH days. The staff I got was on a weekend and the two main guys that do the scans werent there. At least this guy I went to did the opposite of what happened to you. Only baked it for 4-5 mins Max, and the boots were barely warm. At least he laced them only at 60ish% and pulled out to the side. He probably didn't know trues had completely different moulding instructions than Bauer/CCM.

Just re looked at these pics and it looks like your eyelets may have pulled the facing bit? Not sure if just the lighting and angle but if you look at eyelets 5,6,7, you can see the imprint behind them...not sure if it's bc of how hard the guy tightened the laces or just the angle of the picture.
-
Makes sense. There are tweaks u can do to flare the eyelets out which make putting your foot in easier and also easier to thread the laces on the top two eyelets... I'd still rebake without the red insole to give you that bit more depth. Here's just a few vids that may help you. There's more if you go to their channel.

The thing with step is that there's more steel AND you go longer in between sharpenings. So that saves you money on two different aspects. The steel should technically last as long as your skates unless they somehow break.
