Easton Mako Holder Pitch and Mako Skate replacement question
Sniper9 replied to bthompson1286's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
can you find cxn holders online? -
I found the 920 sat very low as well at the back of my head, like you described with the warrior. Honestly I think this is the trend for newer helmets now. The reakt 90 was lower than my 310 but it felt comfortable and not as low as the 920. I'm really happy with my purchase
-
Bauer has a custom option as well. And the Bauer reakt 3d is coming out soon which will compete with the tacks x as it'll have 3d foam. I have a feeling it'll be more comfy since the reakts adjustment system is better than what CCM has.
-
I actually picked up the Bauer reakt 90. I went in thinking I'd just get another 310 but I tried the reakt 90 just for the hell of it and wow, a medium for perfect. I love how you can adjust the width and length completely independently. Perfect for my oval head shape too. I then tried on the 310 just for fun and realized how diff it fit and although comfy, there seemed to be gaps on the sides of my head since it's meant more for a round head shape. The reakt 90 fit just as comfortable as the 920 in terms of I could feel cushion and support around my entire head. Obviously the foams feel different but not in a bad way. I actually prefer the feel of the reakt. Feels more supported vs the nest tech. For the reakt, I'm a few slots away from the smallest and could technically make it a touch loser too so I'm very happy that I have some wiggle room to adjust. Only annoying thing is that I had to use some washers for my j clips for my fv1 bubble to fit into them properly, but no biggy. Overall very happy. It's probably the best fitting helmet I've ever had. Lesson learned to just try everything lol... Or I was just lucky and this year Bauer actually made a model that fit me great. Their adjustment system isn't new and in the past the reakts never fit me this well.

Op, scroll down to the end for a bit more detail about the ftw lid https://ca.ccmhockey.com/en/ftw-learnmore.html

I ended up returning my 920. It fit great on the smallest setting but what made me change my mind was the possibility of the foams breaking in a bit and it would make it a bit looser and I wouldn't be able to make it smaller. I've read the nest tech does pack in a touch and these memory foam things in the 920 seem like it will as well vs traditional eva foams. The 920 also sat a bit lower than I'd like. With a bubble, it would also weight the helmet down more as well. If I were to rock a visor it would have been fine since I could've worn it at the second smallest setting. Oh well. I may just get a new 310 since I'm a fan and my current one needs replacing. I just wanted to treat myself. If the ftw's shell doesn't sit as deep as the 920, that would also be a bonus. It seems like the trend for all newer helmets is that they sit lower and the rear comes down more on the back of the head. I've yet to try the reakt 155 in a medium but the small was definitely too small.

I'm from Canada and used a bunch of my Canadian tire money on it at sport chek, so I paid about half price. For those unaware , can tire money is like rewards money back that you can use at certain stores owned by the same corporation.
-
Op, I also found this video interesting. They talk about the ftw helmet being available soon which is essentially the 920 but shaped a bit different for women. This might be a good option for you. I am definitely going to try it out when it comes out as well to see how the fit is vs the unisex version out now.

I'm similar but not to your degree. I wore a small v08 as well but medium in everything else (never wore 4500 bc it didn't fit my head shape at all). My experience with the 910, tacks x, and 720 were similar too. Where small at largest was too tight and medium at smallest was a touch too big. Although the tacks x and 910 felt like it could work depending how long my hair was lol. What had worked for me well were these: - warrior alpha one pro. It uses a boa dial to adjust like a bike helmet. - CCM 310/710 it has an occipital adjustment and isn't just forward and back like the tacks x, 910 and 720. - 920. Unlike you, this actually worked for me, but I am at the smallest setting. Initially I thought this wouldn't work but realized I could actually make the medium go smaller with a bit more effort pushing the sides of the helmets together. Right now the setting has 2 vertical lines on each side of the locking tab. Just nonchalantly pushing the shell together and stopping with the first sign of resistance, the sizing was at around 3-4 lines on each side of the locking tab. Hope that makes sense but if you look at the rear of the helmet where the locking tab is, it'll make sense. Imo the 310 should work for you unless your head size is smaller than a 7 hat size. I'm 7 1/8 hat size so medium in the 310 fits me well near the middle to smallest setting. the smallest end of the size range for the 310 is 6 7/8". So I would assume the 310 is your best bet if the 920 doesn't work on the smallest setting. What's weird about the sizing is that the 920 is actually advertised as a starting size of 6 3/4 for medium, which is smaller than the 310, but I can confirm that the 310 definitely fits tighter. You should also try the Bauer reakt 85 and up as they have good adjustability. ive attached a picture of the back of the 920 where it has the vertical lines by the locking tab that I talked about

The cutouts in these is minimal compared to what Bauer tried on a couple of occasions with the triangles on the vapor 8? And also the slots on the one90? Also Bauer steel is/was not great particularly back then.

Only thing to be cognizant about with the catalyst 9 and cat pros is the heel / shell cracking prematurely. They allegedly fixed this issue with the hzrdus 9 and 9x4s though
-
2026 assuming the 6 means the year number like the 9x4 lineup 2024). Imo, the 9x4 look better and unless you're set on the new holders, id get the 9x4 on sale. True is offering the 30 day fit guarantee again as well now.

We're just using the term anatomical because that's the lingo Bauer uses for their toecap vs their old style and shape. For most people, they don't have duck feet so this new shape where the area of the toecap that's around the big toe and second toe it slightly longer than the rest as it slightly angles down /is shorter matches the majority of foot shapes better. Obviously it isn't one size fits all.
-
How are you dropping sizes when the Bauer toecaps have been getting more anatomical and less volume? Or is it bc the longest part is now in the big toe area and tapers shorter whereas before the longest area was like where ur third toe would be? If that's the case then I can see your point. For me I wore 7 catalysts, Bauer, and CCM. But that's just me. You do bring up a good point regarding the toe caps if someone has their longest toe being their big toe or second.
-
If you were a 9 in Bauer you should be a 9 in true. I'd try a 9 wide before going to a 10 wide. Why did you jump from a 9 to a 10? Also you said catalyst pro, so does that mean they are pro stocks? If so, then they were made for another players feet so certain areas could be adjusted accordingly. True skates have quite a lot of padding in the heel pocket unlike other brands. So that area does break in and get thinner after baking and after some ice time, and will create a couple mm if additional length once settled.

There's one store near me that's has one pair of machs left. And they are my size. I've been humming and haaing over getting them since they fit so good.
-
I think looking at it in terms of the "fit" system may be the wrong angle. I know what you're trying to say when you say fit 0 as you want something with slightly less volume than a fit 1, but with custom pro, the fit system goes out the window as they use c d e with sizing etc. I would assume it would work for you since you can get different heel pocket sizes in relation to forefoot width and even toecap sizes. Females generally have narrower feet and pro female players are getting custom skates from Bauer CCM true etc as well. You can even see some specs on hsm where the skates are and a heel c width etc. I'm pretty confident that the process in which they make their skates for the pro customs will cater to what you want. The curv composite shell can be manipulated quite a bit during the manufacturing process, way more than simple baking. It's literally pressure molding the shell to shape around your foot last. But I get the hesitancy as there's no refund if they don't work out, and I have heard some people being SOL with Bauer customs.
-
For the vast majority of people the pro custom option from ccm and Bauer work. CCM tends to make their pro customs like how they do for actual pro players but I'm still a bit skeptical about bauer. I'm sure NHL players can get whatever they want that us peasants aren't privy to. As for true, I've never had issues with the three pairs that I've had in terms of fit, but you hear some real horror stories. However, sometimes there's scanning errors etc. The thing about true is they are way more likely to help you resolve your issue than ccm or Bauer. Currently I'm using retail machs and I love em. I'm hoping next year's Supremes will go back to a more normal ish toecap and the fit doesn't stray much.
-
From what I understand, whatever shell Bauer decides to use, the fine tune fitting will come down to the commercial molding process the shell is undergone to wrap around your 3d scanned last. Custom pro mic uses the traditional c d e ee width measurements/shells. Not sure if they will adjust the facing to be optimal after this process so you don't have either too much or too little wrap after the shell has conformed to the last. On a side rant, their retail custom is such a joke since you are strapped to their fit system. Like for me, my left is a 7 fit 1, but my right is a 6.5-6.75 but in the same volume as a 7 fit 1. I've tried a 6.5 fit 3 and 2 and both don't work as the fit 3 is too much volume and the fit 2 is too tight. But I digress.

Did you find the vf whippy. My 70 flex felt like a 65 maybe even a 60. I've read elsewhere the same thing where it's easily 5-10 points whippier than it's listed flex
-
I regret not doing this. Ft5 pro was great. I did however get 4x trigger 7 pros at 199 cdn recently. But I prefer the jetspeed
-
I go outside in on the one row of eyelets where a lace lock would typically go on the old CCM/rbk skates. That would it keeps my heel pushed back into the heel pocket and creates better heel lock for me since the over under lacing stays snug.
-
I understand we have our own experiences and I even said it's probably different in Canada in one of my first replies. But I would question how much easier it is to find a pro stock stick in a Specific spec you like over a discontinued retail stick. And with pro stock you actually don't even know the exact build sometimes.

"Scouring" the globe is really doing a 15 minute Google search. I've used top end for years and just recently started to use second price point and it's little to no adjustment. Some second price points are better than others so i try to stay under 415 grams and it's been fine. Balance actually feels better when sticks are in the 380-400 range. Conversely, once you start using something in the 400-415 gram range you actually start to realize how pointless it is using a stick sub 380 grams and start to realize there is such thing is too light. Prices are only gonna go up. It goes up every year and now with the tariffs it's getting worse.
-
Maybe in the US. But in Canada, the trigger 7 pro was available up until earlier this year in terms of decent selection of specs. Most recently they've been cleared but that's because prohockey had them on clearance for $165 cdn. You can still find a few trigger 7 non pros. Like I said, might be a difference between Canada and US, but I've never had issues getting older top end or second price point sticks for no more than $220 cdn. A second price point sticks doesn't feel bad. I've used them and they have the same pop and kick etc. The only difference is they are in the 400-415 gram range vs 380. 400 grams is already pretty damn light. And tbh, I'll gladly accept the added durability of a 400 gram stick... Not to mention the large price difference.
