  1. I currently own retail CCM as1s and have had them for just shy of three months. I play roughly once a week and although the last few ice times have been fairly competitive as I was in a tournament and also beer league playoffs. My last skates were Trues that were Rock solid after 1.5 years. Ended up selling them to get the as1s (which I now regret) Prior to that were Bauer one100s that lasted me 7 years. My as1s have taken a beating and it shows with gashes and scratches etc. That part doesn't bother me but today I noticed a small 1/2 inch dent in the inside of my right heel. I felt it and that area is soft and I can push slightly. The surrounding composite is still hard but I have no idea how this happened. If I blocked a shot I would have remembered, but it could've been a a clearing attempt or shot that wasn't very hard but hard enough to cause the damage. I also noticed that although the boot itself is still pretty stiff when I handle it, when on my feet it feels like it's flexing a lot more than when it was new. I'm only 165 lbs so I'm not a heavy guy. I heard from my uncle that the CCM skates just don't hold up as he has seen a lot of minor hockey kids' CCM skates that donye even last a season. I didn't think this would be an issue for me as I play once a week. Just wondering if this is the general consensus with ccms skates, particularly the as1 and ft1. I know part of the ft2 marketing is that they state they are more durable so this makes me think CCM.is aware of the issue at least with the ft1? My skates are still under warranty by about a week but Im not going to bother going through the warranty process and get new skates since I did spend a lot of time making these fit perfectly. PS. These skates have only been baked once and spot heated in areas not related to the area of concern. No punching etc either.
  2. I had issues with step black going in vs stock Bauer steel on my edge holders. The edge holders were a nightmare for me in general. Only ever user them for about five skates and ditched them for ls2s which are still my favorite holders. I prefer a bolt system to hold runners, personally.
  3. Try putting the step steel in as best u can with ur skates on. Then use you body weight and stand on it and it should pop in. I personally would avoid heating the actual holders and instead, put the steel in the freezer and then try putting it in after a few mins.
  4. Have you tried the stock insoles? Sounds possibly like plantar fasciitis?? If it's a burning feeling I'm almost thinking it might be neural and not muscular. But I'm just making guesses here.
  5. My as1s aren't custom but retail. I've only baked them once but have spot heated them w few times in diff areas, one being the heel. What I did was use s hear gun and heat the heel area/ ankle area and used my hands to press each side to make it narrower. The thing I found with the ccms is that once the composite gets pliable and u change it's shape, it tends to keep it's new shape fairly decently. When I got it baked I laced them barely snug. The fitter then used his hands to really squeeze and press all over like Scott does in his vh/true vids. And the wrap increased quite a bit to the point where the laces had a lot of slack while the boot cooled. Also I baked mine as recommended by my fitter for 7 mins. He said the recommended four mins is no where near enough. Lastly. The first couple skates after the bake I tied my skates just enough to remove the slack and even then it felt pretty tight. Now, after about two mths, the skates have def broken in quite a bit and I actually tie the top three eyelets pretty tight. They feel pretty good overall now though which I'm happy about bc the first two skates my feet KILLED. Almost sold the too bc I didn't think the amount of pain I had was normal.
  6. I just got some white lizard skin and gonna try em out.
  7. If u paid regular price I'd return it solely for they reason as well.
  8. Toe box won't really alter from baking. Only thing you can hope for is that your heel sits further back from the bake and pulls your foot back creating more room in the toe cap and also from insoles like I mentioned above. Where did you purchase your skates? Is it covered by ccms 90 day guarantee? This guarantee seems to still be valid on sites that are still listing the skates at regular price like hockey monkey.
  9. Tight or short? Length wise maybe a bit as your heel might suck.into the pocket more. If you're using stock insoles I'd highly recommend something with an arch support. If your arches are supported it'll draw ur toes back a bit, maybe just enough for you not to have issued. If it's width issues that can be altered by baking as well. But you should've tried the ee. I wear D's in Bauer and the as1 but when I tried the ft1 even the ee were too narrow for me.
  10. Sorry orthomoves are what I don't like. As for the first gen SP, the ones I have had not cracked and I've had them for a few mths and have rebaked them at least five times due to swapping out skates etc. I heard they improved the durability after the initial roll out revealed issues with premature cracking.
  11. The aftermarket CCM footbeds aren't good imo. I'm another advocate of the speedplates. Wore them in my trues as well. I prefer the first gen ones over the SP 2.0 as the latter isn't as stiff and gives a bit. I bought a couple on clearance from sportchek just bc I like them so much.
  12. Could be. Since using them I have felt off and couldn't pin point what it was. But overall I like the grip. I'll test out a stick with my trusty Renfrew grip tape next time and see.
  13. I allow it to dry for more than two days. When it's dry it's locked in. But because water CAN get in from the top because it's not sealed, when it does it'll cause some slippage. It seems to be more of an issue with my true stick vs my Bauer due to shaft shape. Even buttendz is aware of this and tells you to have the stick blade down while on the bench.
  14. Then stop posting in this thread. Can't wait to see similar posts of you complaining on Bauer/CCM threads in the future .....
  15. Lizard skin black leaves a black mark on my gloves. Will try white next time. Currently have butt endz but not a fan of when water gets on the top and cause the knob to shift....
  16. I'm aware that there have been prior version solely under the VH name but was curious in terms of a new version since true branded over.
  17. As1 is higher and an extra eyelet as well but if I drop an eyelet it feels too unstable. Negative space is similar for me which I'm happy about. In fact the as1 it noticeably tighter in the forefoot and smaller toe box.
  18. So I've had my as1s for about 2 mths now and they don't give me any issues. No hot spots (anymore) and no pain on and off the ice which worried me in the beginning. Fit is good and heel lock is good etc. Overall they are nice skates and def feel like I can get around faster due to it's light weight, however, I feel my trues offered better stability and also I felt more biomechanically correct in my trues. This could be bc of the snow holders having a bit more forward pitch than my trues which had ls2 holders. As I mentioned before, my trues were way stiffer but range of motion was better. The CCM I feel if I tied my skates too tight or loose it would be detrimental, and I had to find the perfect tightness. I think the problem with the as1s is that the entire quarter is one piece and more or less one stiffness where with the Trues, the ankle heel and forefoot areas were one solid thick piece and the facing was another thermoformable piece that was more flexible, which felt better/diff stiffness zones. Overall I do like the CCM as1s but personally don't think they are a 999$ cdn skate. I didn't pay retail so I'm not complaining bc they are very nice skates. I guess it's just hard to compare trues vs any retail skate bc the fit and feel is so diff.
  19. I personally don't like the superfeet bc it messes with how the heel pocket feels, especially for my right foot for some reason. As for the the poster who talked about hot spotd where the toe cap meets the quarter, I think it has to do with the rivet system that attaches the toe cap to the quarter. My left is about almost 1/2 size bigger than my right and it def had a hot spot there. What I ended up doing was lining it with about 1mm Eva foam with solved the issue but I hope with the ft2 CCM has it better lined. The stock lining around that area is pretty sub par.
  20. Anyone know if and when true is gonna have a v2 of the skate?
  21. From what I know the read towers are supposed to be as far back as possible to the heel.ofbthr skate... Wouldn't that position be the same regardless of how long the holders are? Wouldn't the rear tower always be pretty much int he same place and the length between the rear and front towers change, thus only changing where the front tower is mounted? Unless the SB holders and tuuk holders have a diff balance point, and even if the holes line up, the SB holders would be positioned all the way back vs tuuks not being all the way back. I always noticed the tuuk holders (even on Bauer boots) weren't as flush with the edge of the heel vs CCM/sb setups. Both skates with holders meant for it's size. You can see the tuuks don't go all the way to the edge of the heel.
  22. CCM holders seem to be longer in terms of their mount's size Their steel/runner length may be the same but their 263 holders seem cover off more length vs tuuks in 263. Can someone confirm this? My 263 SB holders on my size 7 skates basically have no room at the heel or toe, so putting 272 holders would make the holders stick out at the front. Whereas on my size7 Bauer's there was still some room. @Nicholas G can u dm the shop in Vancouver. I want to avoid this place since I live in Vancouver.
  23. Did you get to handle the retail as1 or ft1? Even though the as1 are supposed to be the stiffest of the CCM line, they weren't as stuff as my trues. The trues are rock hard. The only part on the boot that flexed a bit were the facings. The as1s I have u can flex the quarter package a bit if you squeezed with both hands hard enough. I'd imagine this flex would increase even more as time went by.
  24. Personally don't think it would be that hard. Email them. They do all kinds of repairs etc after the fact. The only thing that would be an issue at this point is the cost.
