If you can't see them actually "feathering" how do you know they are with their toes flat and not somewhat curled? You don't. You are going by what THEY tell you. Secondly, your arch and feet change in shape when you are sitting and standing and even in a lunge position (all of which cause your feet to be weight bearing to a certain degree). Why do you think true has their customers in a lunge position rather than seated or even standing straight up.

At this point I think he is OCD. He even was adamant my holders were misaligned / not centred from pics alone, and I've used a measuring tape etc to ensure the midline of the holders are centred to the heel and toe box. He's reading too much into certain things and I'm questioning if the heel space hes talking about is accurate. Yes his first set of skates were Ill fitting but Im not a believer that measuring the heel space by cramming your foot all the way forward into the tow box is a good way to meausre proper length as most people won't be able to to tell if their toes are curled in the box or not, nor can they properly tell if their feet are flat and bearing weight which maximizes the foot length and width. Anyways. With custom skates it doesn't guarantee painless skates. True/vh is known to be for their painless and comfortable skates but companies like Bauer ccm don't advertise that. Theirs is simply for irregular feet sizes and custom options. Lastly, I tried on my buddy's 1x the other day and was surprised as how little heel lock there was. It felt more or less like the same as my 8 year old one100. I was hoping the fit and heel lock would have been made better by Bauer but the truth is the fit felt the same. Hollow and not very supportive vs my true. I let him try my trues and even without lacing them up and not made for his foot, he was amazed at the amount of heel lock the Trues had.

I also have a pair that I don't use since I'm using speed plates. One is an 8 the other is a 7.. I'm sure you can just trim the 8 down .. not sure why they put an 8 in one of mine since it's more of a 7.5 but I guess they didn't have half sizes in insoles? I'm sure they will send u ones if you email them. They sent me extra red insoles via registered mail for free.

You guys were right. It is red. And my right skate has the softer black foam that reduces the length a touch for me. It was just weird bc the black down was only inserted around the big toe area so when I looked in the skate and saw the red around the lateral side, it looked as if the red was added on top. I confirmed the left side is all red.
-
Is the red foam adhered to the entire toe cap? I'll take pictures later
-
I wouldn't lie. I'll take pics when I get a chance
-
It doesn't make sense then because the left doesn't have it and has the permanent dark grey looking foam that you have you chisel off. I can see that the red Eva foam liner is taped on for my right skate. Both skates are the same size, and my right foot is smaller, so in my case I am positive the red liner that is taped is to reduce the length.
-
The thing is. They stuffed the toe box... Meaning they KNEW the skate length was wrong and tried to reduce it with the toe plugs... So what does that say? If the skates were too large and they didn't stuff to then fine, scan issue and wrong length.. but the fact they stuffed it shows they had a boot too big and knew it was too bit for your feet and just filled it with foam... That's the issue I have. I know there is foam inside the toe box for comfort. Mine has it. It's a diff foam that's permanently affixed to add padding and comfort and dampen vibration. However, my right skate does have a piece of red Eva in the toe box and I'm pretty sure they did this bc my right foot is about 1/4-1/2 a size smaller than my left foot. Both skates are identical in size, so they did this to account for the different size feet. It doesnt bother me that much because the difference is 1-2 mms.. but it also makes you wonder how custom this skate is if they need to do this even to solve a couple mm difference when they advertise the skate being built inside out, which clearly they aren't.

Are you finding any issues with skates coming out as badly as SMU and the most recent post by d1ve

I didn't use it when I had my scan done in the summer of 2017. But not sure if the true brannock was even available then. But after that I started to see the brannock in pictures all over Instagram. Definitely should be used regardless of whether the shop has a true one or a generic one.

This. Bauer I know you wear socks. Ccm from what I can tell is no socks. True for sure NO socks.
-
Thanks for the reply. Hope it works out!

I tighten my trues just as tight as I did my Bauer's but my trues feel a hell of a lot more snug and locked in. I used to tighten my trues just a bit snugger than during the bake process and that provided a good wrap and lock. Lately I've tightened it a bit more only bc I wanted s tighter feeling and my laces are getting worn out and probably bc the trues have broken in slightly. I dont, however, tighten it to the point where my feet go numb, although with the trues it's not hard to over tighten by accident.
-
It also has to do with expectations as well. Someone like me coming from a pretty good fitting retail Bauer would have higher expectations. however, I recently tried on my Bauer's and although they are much lighter the heel lock was atrocious I never realized this until I had something else to compare to. I wonder if fit issues are less noticeable with goalies.... .. any tendies wanna chime in?

Do you have to send your skates back? What exactly is the "pro liner" option anyways. I haven't heard about this until smu mentioned it a few pages ago. Is it just s tan clarino liner or is it the wick liner.. or something completely different? It is a good idea to get re scanned etc. Having them make another skate from your old scans and pics, i can't see them really being able to change it that much... And if they can, I don't see why they weren't able to make it right with those scans the first time. I think they need to have mandatory questions asked and answered by the fitter from now on before they proceed with the skate build. It would save them a lot of time and money having to remake skates. Simple things such as what you expect the skates to fit in terms of whether u prefer ur toes to brush the toe box or not... Maybe a range in negative space measured in none minimal and moderate (although imo they should all come with as little neg space as possible as default). Even maybe going back old school and actually taking measurements of the ankle instep etc. All would be compare to the scan to ensure everything is accurate, and reduce fitter error ..

If they don't fit, they don't fit. Are your feet different sizes by the way. With my feet me left is really more a 8d on dress shoes but my right is more a 7.5ee. The width of my feet fit the 8d but because my right is shorter it slips in an 8d. A 7.5d is good length but width is too narrow. The fact you said you're really a 8.5ee and not a 9d makes me wonder which size you truly are. If one foot is bigger than the other it doesn't surprise me that one boot you are a 9 in length and the other you're a 8.5. did they stuff both toe boxes or just the one skate. Go back to pure, and also email true advising of the problem so they get a heads up. Pure should resolve this for you (they better). People shouldnt put their old skate sizes unless they know for sure what their proper size is and proper skate model. Alot of people probably wear the wrong model skate for their feet even if they have the right size. Anyways. I hope it works out for you and this isn't another smu ordeal.

Make sure that when u push your feet all the way up to the toe box that ur feet aren't curled as they may naturally do so when your toes start to press up against the toe box making the gap between your heel and the skate more than it really is. Also, when you push your toes forward make sure your weight is down on your skates. If you aren't weight bearing your feet aren't fully flattened out and will appear shorter than if they were bearing weight. You can test this by sitting and measuring your feet vs standing in a lunge position. That's why you get scanned when in that position. When I have my skates on, my toes don't brush the toe cap, but when I put weight on to the skate/stride, my toes brush the toe cap. I would try re baking them again and see how that feels. Really remember to kick ur heel into the heel pocket when you re mould them. There are lots of YouTube videos on heat moulding etc on Trues youtube account which might help get that snug fit. Can you take pics of your issues you posted? Btw. Where did you get scanned.
-
Unless it was baked and moulded improperly this shouldn't make that much of a difference to the point where his heel is slipping and there is that much room. Another flag is again them filling the toe box to decrease skate length. There is no reason why he has to crank on his laces to get a snug fit (again if baked properly). This is starting to get worrisome. Stuffing the toe box is no way to have a skate fit , especially when you are paying for a custom skate. There are times where it's acceptable (when you're in between holder sizes) and are possibly just decreasing a size by a 1/4 , but even then I find it somewhat unacceptable if you are paying for and expecting a total custom skate. I love my trues but it seems like qc and overall finish is getting worse.... To the point I don't know if I'll risk getting another pair in a few years. At least with Bauer and ccm, I can try the skates in store and inspect them before I buy them.

Depends it's it's mtm or bespoke. Even bespoke they get you in a number of times for test fits before the suit is complete. I'm talking about making a suit not getting it altered and having to have the alterations corrected.
-
Just like suits that are made to measure etc. I've never had one that I didn't have to alter after receiving it. That's why you do test fits. And like you said everyone's perception of what is a perfect fit for them is different, just like clothing. Some like things to fit looser and others snugger. There will always be the one off disaster unfortunately.

I have the feeling with league games esp late ones. I have much more fun during pickup and drop ins.. mainly because there's no "commitment". But I never have the why bother feeling in the middle of the games.
-
The cutting of the red insole works well for arch pain if you use the red insole. I found the redbl insole threw the fit off a bit for me so that's why I actually heated up the arch and adjusted it that way. As for the toe box. Maybe use a heat gun in that area and use you fingers or the other side of a screw driver to push it out gently.
-
The tracings for sure were lasts that vh had and altered to the unique features of the individual. Obviously pros prob had actual moulds made of their feet. If what their reply is true and they are made bespoke, there should be NO issues with fit. Especially too big. I can see some people maybe finding it too small because they're not used to the zero negative space, but the too big makes no sense. That's why I wonder if their scans are susceptible to errors more often than it should, or they use premade lasts and just alter it depending on the foot scans.
-
Maybe it's an issue with their last size for smu? Since they aren't making skates completely custom anymore, the last they have for the size smu needs isn't accurate to that of what smu needs....? I know there's been a lot of talk about true not doing their skates completely bespoke anymore and more made to measure (did they ever really do them bespoke??)... I always had the impression the vh and true skates were made from a last that was 3d printed from the customer scan, but even watching the old vh videos, it does look like they had lasts already premade and matched whatever was closest to the customers size... And any specific issues accounted for. If this is the case there will onviously be some fit issues, some more major than others that won't be fixed by tinkering and heat molding.... I think ccms two custom options are pretty good where one option they actually high pressure mould the retail skates to a 3d last of the customers foot. I really like my Trues but I will admit this one case does put me off for getting then as my next pair in the future .... Especially since we don't all know how and if their assembly process is changing
-
That's shitty news. Feel bad for smu. Ideally, there really shouldn't be a need for second remakes at all unless there are big issues with their scanning software and or there is a lot of possible user error from the shops doing the scanning. In any case that's Trues responsibility to fix as the shops should be trained as best as possible using their equipment. In terms of production line errors. Aside form cosmetic and lack of qc for defective materials, the size and overall fit shouldn't be really affected by who is building the boot since they are basing it off data and scans. You shouldn't even have to tell them what size current skate you are wearing as the scan should tell you that. This is why I think maybe their software has flaws.
