When Did You Get Bored With Acquiring New Hockey Gear?

True quick release holders? -
Have to say that's pretty good of them to just send it no questions asked really. Just take it as a backup regardless 😉

I get that errors happen. But reading the ones on here and then experiencing it more or less first hand is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I have trues when they first partnered with vh. Mine turned out good. But my confidence in the company is lessening more and more. His toe issue was to the point where he couldn't get his toes to sit flat bc it was crammed. So the fact that all the foam in the toebox was removed to try to create more space and it still caused issues shows how off it was. He has an extremely high instep and wide feet vs length. He's a 6.5 and doesn't even fit in ee skates in any model. Those issues were clearly stated to the scanner when he was scanned because I was there. I'm not blaming one particular party per se as it could be the scanner too but the fact that there seems to be errors like these happening more than it really should (Imo) means true needs to do something about it. Whether it's training the scanners better, develop a better program, and/or better oversight in QC at the factory, and even more variables to ask about on the order form. Just my two cents.

So my buddy just got his trues in. About two weeks from the date he was scanned. He got his scanning done at an lhs that had done scans since the vh days and they have outfitted the most true/vh in any shop in BC. Anyways. I was there when he got scanned and they used a brannock and everything. He tries his skates on and the volume is way off which was his initial issue he mentioned when he got scanned. The right skate is also way too short and even with the foam removed from that area his toes were crammed in there. So needless to say they need to be remade to accommodate the length of the right skate and the volume of both. The shop has requested additional 1/4" in the facing of eyelets 3-6. This result has pretty much put me off to getting trues in the future, unfortunately. Even if they are willing to remake the skates until it's perfect, it's a lot of time and energy and waiting around. For me I can fit into retail skates without too much issue other than the dreaded break in period, but for my buddy, the reason he went to true was because he literally tried on every make and model with no avail.

I think bc of how long the skates are in the oven it obviously has some affect on the holders especially if you're not careful and put more weight on it than u should during the heat moulding process. Try a very thin piece of Teflon or scotch tape. As thin as u can go to eliminate the noise. If it weren't for the noise would you notice the movement while skating? If not, then it's likely not causing any issues anyway. Are both holders like this?

I can't fit into an ft1. Tried on a ee width and it was still not wide enough.

Just skated on my as1s and holy cow am I in pain. I've actually never felt this kind of pain with new skates before and coming from trues it's even ruder Awakening... Having them baked and wearing inside the house it felt fine. A bit of chaffing in the medial ankle/instep on my right foot but that was the least of my concerns after my ice session. Skating wasn't unbearable, but walking to the dressing room after. Both medial ankles bones were hurting bad. Also my pinky on my left which I had a feeling might give me issues since it was pretty snug during the bake. I have to say though that the skates made me feel a lot more agile on the ice. They are extremely stiff and I had to loosen the too two eyelets to get proper flexion. Looks like there's a high chance I'm going to go through with the 90 day guarantee.

Have you ever tried wearing a size 9 to accommodate your smaller foot. It may actually fit you better than you think, even for yourarger foot.

Crappy it took three makes. But happing ending. Hopefully this prompts some better QC.
-
Can you remind me what were the initial problems again, lol.

Maybe look in your spam folder

My buddy just ordered some trues. I'll for sure take a close look at them when he receives them, and ask him how they feel... He has an huge instep and arch. 6.5ee and can't even fit into anything off the shelf. Not even close.

That's a full size. I would imagine it would feel very obvious. Even a half size is noticeable.

Must be nice to pay only 5% tax 😁

Post pictures. Like Nicholas g said, oversized holders are used a lot. Especially by pros. But the lack of attn to detail is pretty ridiculous. If I were you I'd send the skates back and have THEM remount the holders and fill the holes. And also fix the leather. I know for a fact they can fill the holes bc I've emailed them about filling holes. It still shocks me that these things still slip through QC (or lack therefore).

Never had a problem just shaking the nut out of the home... Twss

Pretty much the reason I got mine. And the fact it's the same price as any top end retail skate.

Wonder if that toe cap is specifically for the inline version. And whether the boot itself is lighter and less protection as it's for roller.
-
I would imagine most people who go with true skates are ones that have issues with skates NOT fitting properly out of box... Otherwise they wouldn't spend all the money on custom skates.
-
I only get waxed bc I like how they are a bit thinner and don't look "puffy". Waxed laces are a bit more annoying to get a decent knot, I find. The wax makes the lace firmer and it doesn't hold a knot as well as non waxed. End of the day I'm a yellow waxed laces kind of guy and probably will be forever.

You should generally get steel profiled regardless of what their radius is out of the box to ensure it is what you want it to be. I wouldn't trust factories that spit them out by the boxes. Just get them profiled. If you think spending 30-40 bucks on profiling is a lot and rather buy an inferior steel, I don't know what to say. Even ls3 is a stock 10' (or even 11') radius. So unless you get the ls2 which is a shorter steel, I'm not sure what options you have which come 9' out of box.

You can get Eva foam on Amazon. Pretty cheap. Get the thinnest one they have which I believe is 1mm. Just roughly trace and cut out what you think is the same shape as your outsole area and use a heat gun to get the foam soft but don't overheat. Hairdryer would prob work better since it heats up pretty fast. Then put it in your boot and press around the edges to get the proper shape and/or trace with a pen. Then cut that out and redo until you have it to the exact shape of your outsole. I measured the red true ones and they are about 2mm maybe a bit less but def more than 1mm. If you like the thickness of the true then maybe order the 2mm or you can stack two 1mm etc. The red insoles add too much volume for me so took them out altogether and just run with SPs.

My bad.

The fit is unlike any other skate out there. Anyone coming from any other skate will notice a big difference just putting them on after baking, even if they weren't made for them but are the same size and width. I never realized how poorly my old skates fit /felt until I wore my trues. I never had really any complaints with my old skates but when you compare the two it's quite amazing how much negative space I had in my old skates, and how bad the heel lock was. Double edge sword with the Trues is that because they are pretty locked in, you'll notice just the smallest areas that don't fit the way you think it should and it'll start mind effing you. I spent hrs tinkering my right skate to get it to feel like my left just because I wanted both to feel the exact same. I'm as close as I will get at this point with what I have done and I'm very happy, but it can also make u pretty OCD as well!

Stick with the ls2 or get new ls2 holders if yours are somewhat beat up already. Your lhs should be able to tell if your holder is the reason. I've never been a fan of the edge holders... The steel is way more locked in with the ls2s..
