Height and shin guard length

Recommended Posts

How tall are you and what length shin guard do you use? I'm 5'5" and I can't decide whether to order 13" (which is considered a junior size) and 14". The 14" fits OK but it does bump my skate a little when I fully flex forward.

what about you? go shorter for flexibility or longer for more protection?

6-1, 15" CCM 852s and I tuck them in behind the tongue of my skates. I find that having them over the top requires that I tape the hell out of them or they go down to the top of my foot. Then I need longer pads and that feels too restrictive.

Guys here is a quick outline for SG sizing we use for CCM.

12"- 4' 8" - 5'

13"- 5' - 5' 4"

14"- 5' 4" - 5' 8"

15"- 5' 8" - 6'

16"- 6' - 6' 3"

17"- 6' 3"+

Remember the size varies if you tuck them in (Might want to go shorter) or put them over the tongue of the skates (Might want to go longer).

Sizes vary by brand as well.

I'm 5-11, I used to tuck in my shins and wore a 14". I recently switched to wearing them outside the skate and went up to a 15".

Five foot ten and a half. I use 14" shin pads as I tuck them in under the tongue. Anything longer feels restrictive and affects my skating but I am vulnerable where my shin meets my foot, or pretty much where I lace my skates.

5'10" and wear 15's over the tongue.

One-inch shorter, same length shin pads, over and not under.

I'm 5'10 and wear 15" Jofa xx90s under the tongue. I was using 14"s for a long time but they were about a half inch too short (kneecap a bit lower than my knee and sometimes if I fell, the pad would shift down and I'd bump my knee) so I went up a size and they've worked out great.

I'm 5'9" and I use 14" koho shin guards. I put my skate tongue inside the flap between the padding and the plastic part of the shin guard and they fit just right, not really any problems.

you can't always use height as a guide as some folks have long trunks, long necks, etc, but have short legs. best is to try them on.
