Why do they have to put silver pipeing on pants? I think thats soo ugly.

I hate that stuff to. I had some on a pair of CCM pants and for a tourney a photographer came and took some pictures, but in the ones of me the piping on my pants reflected the lights of the arena so it ruined all the pictures.

head protection that is attached to the shoulders / back, in order to cut down on neck injuries.

THIS IS TOTALY WRONG. no team in football uses this any more. it has proven to be a CAUSE of head injuries. it prevents natural movement of the head. at that age htey need to learn techinque. if any league did this my son would not play in that league.

OK, let's go back in time

McFly, Mcfly!!!!

1. Original Winnwell helmet, circa 1978 with original leather on side for chin strap.

2. Winnwell 627 all leather gloves- how many great old pix of Frank Mahovlich with Leafs or # 9 The Golden Jet- Bobby Hull wearing these have me going crazy for a pair(if you've got them, I will pay $$$$)

3. CCM Super Tacks Skates circa 1972- good enough for Bobby Orr, good enough for me!

4. Cooper SK-20 all leather helmet- talk about old school, I still have mine!!

5. Koho 221 Player model all wood sticks- original 5-lami shaft made in Finland circa mid 70's. Standard arsenal for any NHLer in those days. Original weapon of choice for Guy LaFleur.

6. Cooper Hockey Locker Bag- the first, the best, the only until some cat pissed in mine when I left it out on the front porch overnight!

7. Victoriaville Custom Pro Stick- Rick Martin model. I bought a dozen from Mills & Greer in Burlington, Vermont in June 1972. That lumber had rocket power with a great curve. Remember "The French Connection" Martin- Perrault- Robert 7-11-14!!

8. Cooper DG-32 Shin Pads- Top of the line, felt wrap-around on the calf. Who needs shin guard straps??

9. Pro-Tec wire face masks- pretty good with cat's eye cut out until the stick blade from Mark's stick got stuck next to my cheek. Time for a new wire cage. And, oh, by the way, don't tell me you can't see out of a wire cage. You also can't see when one eye is gone from a high stick or deflected slapshot from the point.

10. Daoust 301 Skates- If it wasn't for the leather inner sole rotting away from sweat , those puppies would still be game ready. Was there ever a more ready to wear, easy break-in skate than Daoust 301? We sold tons of them in the late 70's early 80's. I'm still sorry they are missing from the hockey landscape of 2005.

11. Anything that said Cooper on it. Imagine baseball without Rawlings and you will know where I'm coming from. I could never believe Canstar would put the Cooper name to bed but as the Grateful Dead say "He's gone, he's gone, and nothin's gonna bring him back."

12. Goalie equipment in natural tan leather colors. The hell with "team colors"! Go totally retro and go "Natural". Thank goodness Andy Moog held out as long as he did!

13. Jerseys that say "Maska" on the back right lower hem.

14. Bruins Jerseys with shoulder stripe, circa 1970. The original, what were they thinking when they got rid of that?

15. Laces on the back of tendon guards of your CCM Tacks skates to tie to the front of your shin pads. Remember those?

16. Cooper SB Shoulder Caps only. Button them on your suspenders and you were ready to go!! The choice of 99, Wayne Gretzky for many years.

17. Bauer Supreme 91 all leather hockey skates. Talk about a perfect fit, these puppies hugged your dogs like nobody's business. Great skates with the cross stitch on the side. We will never see that style again!!

18. And finally, just make gloves in standard tan leather all the damn time!!

I'm sure there is more but this is definitely enough for now!!

Simple, traditional looking gloves, such as the old CCM 852s, TPS HG1s, and Hespeler Classic Pros. Its kind of amazing to me how many pros get custom gloves that look nothing like that company's retail models. Look at Easton. How many NHLers wear gloves that look anything like the Synergy 1300? The vast majority of them wear gloves that look like the Airs from '02. These guys can potentially get close to any design on their gloves, and for the most part they all choose to keep it simple and traditional. I'd hope companies would realize this and make adjustments in their retail lines.

I'm a younger guy and I even want to see the Cooper name on stuff.

I know what you are thinking about (the neck-roll type of attachment), but what I am thinking about has never been used in football (American football).

Since they are starting checking at ages before the onset of puberty, the kids don't have enough testosterone to develop the strength in their neck muscles to guard against certain neck injuries that occur as they are learning technique.

There are new ideas for protecting the neck, but unfortunately the ones that work are not feasible because they are too bulky. Perhaps with more research and a lot more money these newer designs can be refined.

Unfortunately, there is a break-even point for everything, and a few neck injuries may not warrant the additional expense of fully developing these designs.

AussieJoe man.. i tell you what.. Sydney is the same if not worse.

My LHS just got a fair big shipment in of all latest Skates, Gloves, OPS's etc and when they want $500 AUD for a Vapor XXX Ops.. ;) Not cool..

Yeah I love Steve from Addlon, Sydney. He has NO F'n idea about the products he punts. I asked him a few months back, about durability issues to do with '03 Bauer skate models and he looked at me like I just made the stuff up!

Ah ignorance must be bliss for some salesmen. That price you spoke of is the reason I don't use OPS's. That and I know I'm gonna snap them in two just like my first Synergy last yr (x1 month of use). Bugger that for a joke!

Ah, the kids in Canada and the US have things way sweeter. Be grateful for it guys.

I haven't been in the design lab, but it seems the older designs don't allow as much mobility as the newer gloves.

A lot of the newer designs sacrifice protection for mobility.

I have to echo the glove theme here. Make pro stock eastons a retail option. They are honestly the only easton glove of late that I'd actually want.

Perhaps more companies can make nylon gloves available as well as wider color selection. Though that might not be very convenient for shop owners.

They ARE an option and are in the retail catalogue.

I agree with that yet, from players' comments, it seems mobility is more desired.

I agree, yet I find it funny. Look what Gretz was able to do with those god-awful 8 inch cuffs. Almost every midget player I see now has at least a 3-4 inch gap between their gloves and elbow pads, because they "need it for the extra mobility."

JR

The Easton Pro model gloves are in the retail catalog this year however they are still considered a "custom glove program." The minimum is 6 pair custom colors per model. Right now all custom glove orders have a 90 day delivery schedule according to the USA program I just checked.

I want companies to allow people to order old skates so we never hae to change if we don't want to....

also keep the same model longer like before... every year is too much change..., like new cars, use for 4 years or something...

I think CCM should bring back the 952 from like the late 90s, with the kevlar on them. They where by far my favorite skate.

new models of skates only used to be introduced every 4yrs roughly but lately its been every year. if you want just look at graf theyve kept all there skates going consitently throughout the years. If people could order older boots then it would probably be a special order if that ever happend.

IF manufacturers didn't make new skates every 1-2 years, we would be out of business...Those of you who want to use the same skate over and over again are in the minority...

We live in a world of what's new...
