I'll support Buradipep. Don't know why, but for some reason I rarely go with the leading #1 brand...just doing what I can to slow down the pace of the big taking over :P

From the article JR posted (the only hockey part)

"How much patience will adidas have with the development of Reebok's newly acquired hockey brands? Reebok made its investment in hockey before the yearlong NHL work stoppage. It costs a lot of money to make a new brand relevant in the mind of consumers -- Nike has owned Bauer for more than a decade -- and returns might be even lower than anticipated given that the absence of the sport in the United States, even with phenom Sidney Crosby as an endorser."

Wow! Very unexpected. I had no idea this was going down. I can't see adidas getting rid of RBK's hockey brand name as it has just come out. CCM though.... <_<

You're going to replace a brand with more than 100 years of experience to have two brand names that have nothing to do with hockey? Seriously - they won't do away with CCM.

Edge - nobody knew it was going down - even the people at CCM.

12 year olds don't care about history and that's the heart of the hockey market. I don't want to see it happen but I could see it happening at some point.

You're a golf guy - adidas owns Taylor Made. Do they have adidas golf clubs? I really don't see them changing anything.

There is something to be said for having any advertising work for all sports. Any time RBK advertises something, it applies, to a lesser degree, to all other markets they are in.

I heard talk of Adidas buying Graf a few weeks back, as I think they are based in the same town/country?

Nothing will change to the CCM and RBK brands, millions and billions have been invested over years in those brands and they are worht too much to drop.

Like RBK buying THC and keeping the Jofa brand on the protective stuff cos of the history with the NHL.

Mc'D's wouldn't buy Burger King and change the shops names to Mc'D's because different secotrs of the consumer market have different brand loyalities. They just want all the different sectors to buy off one company... globalization and all that crap

i don't see why at all adidas would reach into rbk and change the hockey division, becuase they're trying to gain a bigger market share. if nike has a hockey division, they'd want to compete with that, and rbk hockey seems to be doing well so far so why change it?

Executive egos will come into play...

Remember Adidas BOUGHT Reebok...and most analysts have stated that Adidas is respected at the higher end and likely will be there pro-exposed brand...that is from what I've read.

Whether that happens in hockey, who knows. CCM is a strong hockey brand, RBK Hockey seems to be doing ok...and Adidas could play well in hockey.

For now, we all get to be Arm Chair Analysts!

THC ran with three brands for long enough (CCM, Jofa and Koho), so why not CCM, RBK and Adidas? CCM for the traditional market, RBK for the preppy college kids and Adidas for the "hip urban youth" hockey players?!?! Who knows.

I`m pretty sure they`ll stick with the Reebok name for Hockey.

Adidas bought Rbk to get it`s share of the american market in my opinion. They`re big in Europe already, especially in soccer and as a "cult" brand.

Eventhough, remember that there once was an Adidas Hockey line (products I`ve seen personally: Skates, Jerseys, Gloves), but that was long ago.
