The Avs still have Kono, Lappy, and Svatos will be given a chance to shine. Richardson may also suprise in camp. Turgeon is a stop gap until other opportunties open up.

Wait until you get to see Svatos on a regular basis.

True, but this isnt nhl 2005, you cant play your 1st line the whole game. I just dont see them being a cup contender anymore with other teams out there that are going to have solid 2nd maybe 3rd lines.

Bitchy floater who only plays hard a shift or two a game. Coaching staff disliked him, other players disliked him and the fans disliked him. Other than that, he's just like Hejduk

I can't agree more. I can't even keep track any more. I'll just have to wait till the season starts up.

the balance of powers is slowly changing

but seriously... the aves still have a really competative team... i just don't consider them a stanley cup contender just yet... i think aebischer needs to play a little while longer, and they are going to need some more depth...

i think bobby clarke has done a decent job, and everyone thinks that he is just some screw up... i still think he is a crackhead, that dosn't deserve to be a GM... but he has done nicely with the flyers...

He did a good job building the Panthers as well.

Wasn't it Doug McClean that built the panthers when they went to the cup?

is it def. that roenick is gone. it would be excellent if they could free the cap enough to keep foppa nd roenick. I think forsberg is more skilled but JR is a better leader and riles the guys up.

goalie wise: esche proved he was solid last year and antero was a WALL in the AHL (not sure how much that means tho)

The Flyers have added in size and strength, but jumped back in speed. Carters quick and Richards can move as well, but Amonte and Recchi gave them alot of outside speed and their D seems to have lost some speed as well. Especially since the quicker guys will be counted on for offense, and the slower will be Defensive specialists or "Heavy minute" guys (that was a great quote).

I don't agree with the fact that they jumped back in much speed. Markov, Malakhov, Ragnarsson, and Timander weren't exactly the fastest defensemen. Seidenberg has some wheels and pairing him and Pitkanen with the big defensemen will give a good mix.

Amonte was terrible here, I don't mind that he's gone at all.

EDIT: I'd also like to see Brashear and Desjardins cut before Roenick.

Remove Therien from that sentence and I don't think they're quicker than Rathje, Hatcher, and Seidenberg. Of course Seidenberg accounts for most of that combined speed.

If you look through the defensive pairings from two years ago and compared them, the overall speed will be about the same.

And on a sidenote, if the Flyers get Ricci and a bunch of cash back, we'll have gotten everything back from the Lindros trade (minus the cup).

I would have liked to see the Avs cut Blake and use his salary for Forsberg. We probably then could have kept foote and signed some affordable defensemen like Berrard and Brisebouis (sp?).

You expect to sign Foppa, Foote and Berard with Blake and Turgeons money?

I don't see it happening, and I don't think Avs fans will be too dissappointed with their signings either.

Based on what Lacroix was saying was left, it could have happened. Berard only signed for approx 2. I know the team isn't in any dire straights, I just think they could have done better by keeping Forsberg instead of Blake. They may not have been able to keep foote, but it would have been a possibility. Brisebois and Turgeon both signed at 1.5m a season. Avs are still 18m under the cap according to TSN. More quality defensemen were availalbe than forwards IMO.

Blake plays both ends of the ice well, foote is only good at one end and that is up for discussion considering the new rules. The big knock against Blake is his back. Of course Forsberg has a bigger issue with injuries than even Blake. It's hard to invest so much in Forsberg because of it.

I can agree with you on Forsberg's injury issues, that is the one negative against him IMO.
