This is quite depressing. When I was younger you were either a CCM or Bauer skate guy. If either went, it'd be like losing an old friend.

Nike/Bauer Hockey Unveil New Combined Logo

SportsNewsSource Posted: 10/4/2005

Nike, Inc. and its Bauer subsidiary unveiled a new brand strategy and logo to help leverage their combined strengths for global hockey athletes and retailers. Following an offensive-oriented plan, the move is intended to unify resources and create the strongest brand in the market driven by "product innovation and marketing impact."

The new brand combines Bauer's heritage and position in the hockey category (skates, sticks helmets, gloves, and apparel) with Nike's reputation for innovation and product excellence across various sport categories.

"A simplified brand strategy will allow us to provide the most profitable solution for our retail accounts and yield performance benefits for the hockey athlete," said Chris Zimmerman, president and CEO of Nike Bauer Hockey. "Currently Bauer sells products in over 9,000 stores in more than 35 countries worldwide and is the leading skate of choice wherever competitive hockey is played. By leveraging the strengths of the two strong brands, we have an even greater opportunity to compete and deepen the connection with this unique consumer."

As an example of the consumer and retail opportunity, the revolutionary "Nike Bauer SupremeOne 90" is expected to debut as the lightest skate product available in the marketplace. It will be among the first products to appear on the ice with the new logo and marketed under the new single brand strategy.

Nike and Bauer have been increasing their investment into hockey for the past several years and that will only increase over time. Under the new strategy, the Nike Bauer Hockey brand will utilize some of the sport's premier athletes, including Jarome Iginla, Martin St. Louis and Markus Naslund to assist its research and development efforts for the next generation of innovative products and also realize the benefits that result from a single brand marketing focus.

When I was younger it was a Cooper SK20 leather helmet was the ultimate. Still have mine, won't sell it on ebay for a million bucks. Also Bauer Supreme 92 skates, all leather boots. Still have the pair I bought at Paragon's in NYC in 1972. I have my original all leather Cooper 15 gloves with the special make-up Gerry Cosby, Madison Square Garden logo on the cuff as well. I kept my circa 1974 CCM Super Tacks boots. I took off the CCM Prolite steel blades to put first generation black Tuuks on in 1976. It is certainly sad to see these old names in the industry go down in flames. Just think, someday, 15 years from now all the young guns on MSH will be remembering the good old days of Eagle gloves and Vapor skates!!

"It goes to show

you don't ever know

watch each card you play

and play it slow

Don't you let that deal go down."

Going forward in 2006, the company formerly known as BauerNikeHockey will be known as NikeBauerHockey. NBH will now crossbrand new products with both brand names.

actually I have a pair of bauer vapor XV gloves and on the side they say nike zoom something. The nike name is on the glove. Its not huge like the bauer logo...but it's there.

Yikes, hockey without Bauer or CCM.  Tough to imagine.

Is it time to dust off the "Dead Hockey Brands" thread?

Well, don't slip on the keys and scare the crap out of me..... :o

but their is one problem with this..if bauer(slim fitted skate) goes down and nike stay ...what will every player that skate in vapor will do??

CCM-WIDE

NKE-WIDE

BAUER-small...(i'm sorry i dont know the term in english)

Would Nike make two type of skate??if they do..that pretty useless...

Narrow is the word you're looking for, and being one of those people I am scared if they change the fit.

Some history and a prediction:

- The Canada Cycle and Motor Company (CCM) started up in 1900 and made their first hockey skate in 1905.

- In 1927 the Bauer family set up shop in Kitchener Ontario.

In 20?? Canadian hockey equipment history was wiped clean due to global conglomerates buying everything and phasing out the historic brands. :(

I find it very interesting reading all the conspiracy theories. I would like like to squash one of them, CCM is not going anywhere. Within the next couple of months there will be a major relaunch of the CCM brand with lots of new and exciting products.

More info to follow soon...

On the front page of the Business section of The Vancovuer Sun, there is a breif mentioning of the now Nike Bauer Hockey brand.

Did they have the new logo? Anyone have any idea as to what it looks like?

As a side note to this "cooper" has been reserected, low end shoulder pads for example at Canadian Tire. They actually are cool old school look and have a bauer tag on them.

Cooper also makes baseball gloves. had one for years, and saw one at summit sports in rochester, mi

They license the name for baseball, it's not NBH. BNH just sounds right, NBH doesn't.

I know this sounds silly, but I think it's because your tongue is already going in that direction. On the other hand, given Nike's brand strength overall -- not including hockey -- I think it makes sense for them to leverage their name.

I agree about leveraging the name. From a marketing perspective it makes a ton of sense. Every Lebron or Tiger ad benefits hockey, because the swoosh will be on every piece of gear.
