What is going on with Mr. Old School

Recommended Posts

He used to wear the old school 652 Tacks and use a 10 lb. aluminum stick...look at him now kids...Vapor XXX's and a full composite Warrior stick...what is this world coming to?

On a side note, I noticed Modano is still wearing his 652's, wearing Easton gloves and using a Synergy???

Yep...I had gotten word late last week that he was ditching the RBK stuff. I was supposed to keep it on the downlow but now that there's picture proof...

From what I hear it was just that. He just couldn't get used to it. I just find it weird that mfgrs get burned time and time again when it comes to this - RbK went heavy with the ads and he's plastered all over them...and the first big night, he's wearing other stuff.

If he gets monetary compensation, isn't he contracted to wear/use RBK stuff? And by switching, isn't he violating it? The Mfctrs. should protect themselves from this kind of switching.

On a side note, I guess the switch worked...down 4-0 they make a mid/late game comeback and win!

You would think that they could make the same skate with a RBK make-up job.

I was wondering the same question. I assume that there are different 'rules' as it relates to endorsing hockey products? For example, if Lebron James showed up at a game wearing Reebok or Adidas, he would be breaching his contract with Nike and making himself open for a bunch of lawsuits. How does it work for hockey?

Didn't a basketball player try to get out of a shoe contract because he thought the products he was using was contributing to his injuries?

Can't remember who or what brand though.

looks like he's still wearing the same helmet he received when he first got to the red wings though

I thought the NHL required all players to use new helmets every season starting in 03-04.

I think it was a matter of each equipment manager supplying every player with a new helmet each season. However, the player could still choose to wear whatever they wanted.

...RbK went heavy with the ads and he's plastered all over them...

But they haven't bothered to update the webpage with the players that have changed teams...(Cujo, Crosby, Amonte, Pronger).

Hopefully they can get some good game shots of new RBK players in their new teams gear and update

Shanahan always looked like he had the oldest ass padding in his helmet year after year. So maybe he does get a new helmet and replaces the padding with the old every year or his head turns the padding into mush all the time.

After his fight last night, did you take a look at his shoulder pads? Man is there ever padding in those. You could put on a hoodie and have more protection. Talk about old school.

i belive reaper is correct. some teams stock up on lids and hange on to them for many years. there is i as far as i know no rule that says each player must use a new helment every year. anderchuck(sp) i think still use a ccm that has vents above the forhead. the only helment that i say for sure that has been banned is the old jofa that gretzky wore. it had zero padding in it where as the nfl requires each team to replace or recondition helments so that they meet league standards.

Can't remember who or what brand though.

Actually Kobe Bryant was one of them. He paid $8 million to get out of his Adidas contract in 2002, supposedly because they were hurting his feet (Hard to believe, since at the time he was Adidas' biggest endorsment and he had his own model. You would figure they made him custom pairs that fit his foot perfectly).

Part of his buyout was that he could not sign with another manufacturer for about a year, and could not wear the shoes of a single company for more than 3 games. He signed with Nike shortly after those terms.

I can't quite say his reason was monetary, since he paid $8 million to get out. Either way, it was all for nothing, as Nike dropped him just a few months later during his rape case.

Nike never dropped Kobe, his deal is still bigger than Lebron's. They didn't produce new ads for him for about a year but he's had new ads running since about july.

Vince Carter was successfully sued for breaking his contract with Puma. He was a punk then and he is a punk now.

well think about the era that they grew up in, they had little to know padding whatsoever and thats what made them get to where they are so if they dont want to change the padding then let them play with nothing. the younger guys wear the bulkier stuff because they grew up in the era of more padding.
