Says Pedro Cerrano

"The bat likes fast balls very much, he explains, but is ''afraid of curve balls.''

"It is very bad to steal Jo-Buu's gin. Is VERY bad."

Jo-Buu drank rum not gin :P

"Up yer butt, Jo-buu."

Any idea why these guys spray paint the bottom of their sticks? I've noticed a few guys doing that, I think Neil painted the bottom of his green 7k's black as well.

And drying paint with a blowtorch? Good thing Roy has a day job playing hockey...

Derek Armstrong does this with his Hex-1.

It appears he cuts off the "stock" Hex-1 blade and puts on something different, then sprays it all black to cover it up.

I think the torch is used to help "re-fuse" the fiberglass, or at least smooth out the seam.

Buffalo Sabres' Derek Roy uses a blow torch to dry a fresh coat of black spray paint on his stick before an optional NHL hockey practice at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y., Monday, May 29, 2006. Why wouldn't you just spray paint it? What does the buring do other than just pure joy?

my guess is that it makes the puck invisible when on your stick. i know some players use black tape for this reason. spray painting the stick is probably taking it one step further. understandable, but its a cool looking idea to boot :)

Thats absolutely right. If you ask most high-level goalies, before the shot comes off your stick, they can read the angle of your blade (or something like that im not a goalie) and it helps them judge where your shot's going.

Although for those of us who don't get sticks for free, dont bother. it voids any warrenty you might hope to take advantage of when you bust your stick. (or burn it haha)

but after ur warenty is over, spray paint it at least..

I always use a torch to change out blades on my shafts. It still hasnt affected the shaft what so ever. Only reason I would use the warranty would be if the stick broke in its first use. After that I consider it used, no reason to get it replaced.

I always get looks during games though when I bust out the propane torch.
