Some NCAA hockey teams wear Adidas jerseys and socks.

Teams like Notre Dame, if I'm not mistaken, whose athletic departments have deals with Adidas. Teams who have deals with Nike for every other sport use Nike.

I don't believe anything changed from the Wisconsin jerseys when Adidas began making them except for the adidas logo. I may be wrong though.

i think it may just be a matter of time before adidas fazes out CCM and RBK. I'll miss CCM...i think.

I don't think Reebok or CCM will be phased out. There's something to be said for brand appeal and Adidas is well aware of CCM's history in hockey.

I think addidas will keep the CCM and RBK line for a while, why make money off of one brand when you can make it off of two brands?

Also it will save them money instead of expensive advertising campaigns and CCM has a great following/reputation and RBK is starting to get one, so why bother spending money for something less benificial?

Exactly, think of the top two rookies this year; Ovechkin and Crosby... Both have their followings, both are very marketable both wear adidas owned merchandise(excluding crosby's stick).

Adidas would be stupid to phase out either of these brand names(anytime soon), plus when I think of adidas I think of soccer not hockey.

There is a benefit to only using the Adidas brand name too. Any time you see an adidas tennis, soccer or basketball ad, it reinforces the brand name. RBK phased out (for the most part) Jofa and Koho despite the fact that both had popular products and it hasn't hurt them. There is every reason to believe that eventually other brand names will be phased out as well.

Yes, but by the same token, they owned Salomon skis and still own Taylor Made. Nike went into golf clubs...yet adidas had all of the resources to and didn't. Tennis, soccer and basketball has been adidas' staple for decades. Other than apparel, I believe it doesn't benefit them to change names.

Agreed, but kids are the primary market for gear and cool and new mean a lot more than tradition and history to them. We've had this debate before and only time will tell what will happen years down the road.

Slightly before the end of time there will only be one brand that controls the whole world. The big question is, which one?

- Microsoft?

- Wal Mart?

- Exxon?

I think the fact that Nike Golf picked up Tiger as the face for the brand had helped them get established, just a little bit.

Yes, and they still had a rocky start with him.

The point that I am making is that while yes, Nike built a golf brand, adidas already owns one. It would be the same situation as the one in question - them phasing out Taylor Made and renaming it adidas.
