Sprung Hockey

Recommended Posts

Called Easton Monday morning to wawawa about boots for samples and came back from pickup in Covina yesterday to find three pair of boots in a box. Mount time. Pics later. Rink time on them this afternoon. Instant gratification. Off-ice training for me, who's never been on an ice rink. ;)))

Hey Guys, I'm new at this site, so please bear with me. After reading all the reviews about Sprung, I gave the frames a try. After nervously mounting the frames to my Tacks 452(practice boot), I went out and played pickup hockey at the local indoor rink(ice court?). Having skated on Mission VSi Proto Hi-Lo(72-80) and Reebok 6k Tri-Di, I absolutely loved them. It felt sharp and responsive to the cuts I did and the crossovers were effortless(forward and backwards). It seems like it's gonna get better the more I skate on them. The only problem I had was when I made sharp cuts into the corners, at times I wiped out. I'm assuming it's because of the wheels being too hard at 78a? I'm 5'7 180lbs and I used 76mm addiction wheels with the A6 frame(size 8 skates). I tried to search and find some videso of how to do an ice hockey stop on rollers. Could someone help me there please? Here are the pictures of the skates and I'm gonna now mount them on my CCM U+ 09 skates and go from there. Thanks Keith and everyone for all of your help, inputs and reviews. I hope the link works..

Great job on mounting the frames. As for wiping out in the corners, all I could say from past experience is adjust your stopping going into the corners, for some reason Ive noticed on some rinks the corners are always alittle tricky, maybe more dust build up. You might want to go with a softer wheel, 76A or XXX. I have noticed my back wheel takes a beating so I go with a harder wheel. I'll use 76A(XXX) for my first 3 wheels and go with a 78A(XX) for the back. Im 200lbs.

There is more friction when you're on wheels than when you're on ice. If you find you're toppling alot then you should try bending your knees more and keeping your centre of balance low.

I got some Gripper Milleniums 74a laying arounf since I had those for my Tri-DI setups. Should I use those for the middle two wheels? Its so dumb having to pay so much for "trial and error". Thanks again for the responses. Whats the difference between the Voodoo frames and A6x arms? I know when I try doinf an ice stop, I'm always afraid of possibly breaking my ankles if I fall over..Just a different feel from ice hockey I guess.

Try putting the 74a's on the outside wheels and keeping the addiction wheels in the middle two spots. the softer wheels on the outside spots should provide you with enough grip so you aren't losing your edge in the corners.

Mounted my Sprungs to CCM U+ 09..will try them out on thurs sticktime...I used 3 screws in the rear since the heel was a lot smaller, hopefully its ok.

I tried finding it, but I can't seem to paste pics on here instead of links..

You'll love them, especially skating backwards and tight turns..

Those are the A6 mounted on my CCM U+ 09, I was only able to mount 3 screws in the heel and any more would start to dig into the liner. Thought about drilling another hole into the frame..Has anyone done this before or the 3 screws should be ok? I've read the first 105 pages so far, so haven't seen anything posted so far. 5'7, 180lbs.

The three rivet (or t-nut) rear mounting works great and is secure. Finally got my computer up and going better and here's the three pair of freebies that Easton gave me, before they got their Sprungs. And the 1400s and 1100s with A7s. I'm waiting for some 76mm Addictions for the S5s. These will be rotated through the LA area Rinks for player testing.

Sprung is looking for a Canadian manufacturing and distribution partner, so that we can get our molds out of China and into the center of Ice Hockey where they are more handy. Also need to start development on the next stage of the chassis. PM me if you want more info.

Although the concept drawings are for 80/84s (a possible future) these aren't made yet, so they can be 76/80 hi/lo (just like the drawing) or straight 76 and 80.

i don't know about a 80/84 as wheels would be harder to come by but that 76-80 hi/lo if you can make it fit my boot then i'll be all over it!

It will most likely be 76/80 or straight 80s to begin with (depending on a lot of things) and when people finally realize that the 80/84 is the fastest you can get without stilts, 84s will be there waiting. Only Sprung and Mission can make 80/84s. The 84mm molds already exist. There are layers of future in this concept design that are staggering to all of roller hockey. And anybody on ice that wants to show up after the off season in better shape and tune than they ended their last ice season.

those look awesome - what? no white wheels?

Haha, I thought about white wheels, but I never know what kinds of surfaces I'll play on so I wanted harder wheels. Also, because the leather was a little dingy, I had to look up some ways to whiten it up - turns out toothpaste is a cheap household way to buff up the white leather. So the skates smell minty fresh - and the green wheels seem to match!

I just wanted to share my experience.

I had two rockers break in consecutive games shortly after my warranty expired. I had 2 replacements sent during the warranty period.

The blue wheel is in a broken rocker, but it was hard to skate when the front rocker broke. I took the chassis off and did and ice-to-inline-back-to-ice conversion due to the all the broken rockers. I don't recommend these if you play in cold weather. I play in a roofed rink but it isn't heated.
