Are the sprungs all they are made out to be?

Seriously? Your posting in a 140ish page thread about the things. Did the thought ever cross your mind to read the thread before posting?

I would say yes, its a fantastic invention. I've tried them on, then switched to my missions... only spent two minutes on my missions before deciding to go back to sprungs.

Quick question on dyeing the Sprung chassis with rit dye. Do I dye all the pieces separate in a bucket. Or should I put the chassis together and then dye them? Just curious as to what works best. Thanks. Any thoughts on a good color for them?

I recommend to disassemble the chassis first and then dye the parts. Make sure to not get air bubbles trapped under the frame.

Pick a color that shows up in your skates.

Just to show of...here's a dye job I did a few weeks ago. :)

I think I'm going to put them on some NBH Vapors. What color do you think would look best?

Dye the chassis dark red. Then use a glue gun and cover the chassis generously in vertical lines of glue; then dye everything black. Take of the glue and you should have a black chassis with red stripes. Should look really cool on the vapor boot. Go back 20 pages in this thread...i dyed a chassis with a similar pattern.

I have a couple quick questions, if anyone cares to answer. I looked through most of this thread but couldn't find the answers, so here goes -

1. Do the Sprung chassis only fit an all 80mm wheel setup? If so, what is the benefit of an all 80 setup as opposed to other setups?

2. Do the Sprung chassis come in black or do they need to be dyed by the purchaser?

Right now they come in the A6 with all 76mm wheels which fits Sr 6-9.5 and the A8 with all 80mm wheels which fits 9.5-13. 80s are slightly faster with a bigger footprint for turns. The pitch is very much the same on both, and both have more pitch than Humm'rs and Vanguards. They are mostly neutral when you're standing, and the pitch increases as you lean forward and when you're pushing off. However, it's not the wheel size that makes the difference, but the progressive suspension which is self leveling and totally responsive to your movement.

Sprungster,

I just put in an order from your site. How long should I expect the internals of this chassis to last. I know different players skate differently and anything can happen. Just wondered if you had an estimate. Also I plan on dyeing them when I get them and I figured I go to the best source for tips on dyeing them. I've read about just dropping them in a bucket of hot water and let them sit, while making sure that there are no air bubbles in the chassis. Other than that any tips for a successful dye job? All tips are welcomed. I'll post pics when they're finished.

Since you got the large, you shouldn't have any issues, because it is more overbuilt than the medium for the heavier weight players with big feet. Big feet and less weight are just a plus. As for dying, the water needs to be boiling and they should be boiled for 10-15 minutes or till you get the color you want.

I found some black A8 rocker arms if you want them. I don't have any more black frames, though.

A lot of the test samples that Keith has are still going strong, even after more than a year on hockey. In the past year or so, I believe there were a few changes to the structure to make it even more robust and would take the weight of a heavier person (315lbs, correct me if I'm wrong).

5hole, you dont have to worry so much. The main part of the chassis is virtually indestructible, and the arms are easily replaced it necessary. As a few of the guys have already mentioned, meet up with Keith since you are already in SoCal. A lot of the guys are also waiting for the A80 Medium to come out, including myself....

I hope next year I would be able to get a US trip, so far all my proposed trips to the US have been shot down...

Sprungster,

It's okay I'll take the white chassis and the white rocker arms. I think that I'll be getting a little creative with the dye job. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for the information. So I should boil them in the water for 15 minutes? Sounds good. I'm going to have to buy a new pot for this one. I can't wait to get them mounted up and get skating. Thanks.

Keith, I have decided to go with Sprungs. I live in Costa Mesa - is there anyway I could meet up with you sometime at your shop so I can pay for them and have you mount them? I want them to be black, so I will probably have to take them home first and dye them and bring them back to you.

Keith, if you have any extra black A8 rocker arms, I'll take 'em off your hands!

"Killer look, amazing agility. Sprungs rock!"- Sam Buck.

These are the best pictures I've seen of what a very light player can do with A8's. I think he's on size 9's. It shows what Sprungs do that nothing else can...dig in.

Hi 5Hole,

get a plastic bucket or an aluminium turkey pan the chassis will fit into. Heat the water to boiling and pure it into the pan, add the dye and then the chassis. 5-10 Minutes later the chassis should be done. The longer you leave the parts in the dye the darker the color you chose will get, you can take out a part to check. Clean the parts under cold water, this will also set the dye.

Don't spill any dye, best to do it outside or in a shop area. Have paper towels handy and wear some latex gloves. With the gloves you can also take the parts out the hot water, if you don't have any gloves use some tongs or a stick for extraction.

Always dye an extra rocker arm and as a precaution I would recommend to put the chassis in a waterbath for 24 hours after you are done dyeing to allow the resin to reabsorb water and avoid brittleness in the plastic.

Okay, another A+++ review for Kieth. I had grabbed the Torspo package from him and the boot simply didn't work on my feet, but the chassis rocked. So I went down to Monkey Sports and grabbed a new pair of V08's and had Kieth do the mounting, here is the result:

m008-1.jpg

They rock, played my first pick-up game last Thursday and it's the closest to ice I've ever felt in roller, great pitch, cutting and a very fast skate. I also highly recommend the Vector boots, very comfortable out of the box, at least on my feet. Kieth has an excellent customer service reputation that I witnessed with a simple return on the Torspo boots and a mounting job that only took 1 day. All I have to say is thanks for the great job Kieth.
