KOR Shift 1 and 2

Recommended Posts

You can stretch the toe cap a bit on a boot stretcher.

Actually, I did try that with my shift 1's and really didn't get the results I needed (in fact, wasn't that noticeable at all)).

I don't think you're going to be able to get much out of any toe-cap. Too hard to get at, too close to the end of the skate (so it's structurally stronger), and some have too much extra reinforcement to be able to do much (I tried doing it on my 1152's but the plastic cap was too thick to be worth a damn).

i actually stretched my toe cap on my shift 2's a bit on tuesday. the cap was originally hitting both my big toe, and little toe. after baking and fitting, i put the skate right on the stretcher while it was still warm (NOT HOT) and was able to open the toe cap up a decent amount. my toes were not hitting the sides of the cap at all after that.

i wouldnt try to widen too drastically, but it should allow for enough room. i have a rather wide foot, and it created enough room for my fat paws to fit in.

I tried out my new Shift 2's today at open ice (2-3 hours).

My initial thought when I stepped on the ice... "Wow, I'm I ever on my heels!". Tight turns seemed easier. But it is a different experience, so I need more ice time to get used to them.

The painful problem is I have a blister on the side of the big toe on both feet. Also I have a blister on the inner side of my left foot near the heel. Is this because the skate is improperly sized, or can this be solved by re-baking and molding it? I noticed I got these blue cookies in the box. How do they work?

It could either be the skate size or you just need to re-mold them. Assuming the skates aren't too big.....Just re-mold them and form them more to your heels with your hands. If I remember correctly when I got my Shift 1's I was also told to stand in them and lean forward and then sit back down a few times. It definitely sounds like your heel is slipping though and that caused the blister. You really shouldn't feel your heels lift at all in these if they're fit properly.

The blue pads are used to stretch a part on your skate that is too tight when you mold them.

Oh, and adjust your Pitch on the skates. That will definitely fix that problem.

Thanks for the tips. When I was being sized, before the baking process the size seemed perfect, with my toes just touching at the toe cap and my heel seemed pretty secure. But when I got them baked I guess my heel must have sunk back a bit and it feels like I have more room in the boot now.

Hey gotta shout out on this thread and say that Kor Shift1s are the best skates ever, I'd buy the Shift2s except I can't justify it cause they Shift1s aren't close to wearing out and I'm going to make it at least the whole of this coming season without needing replacement. Also I have really gotten used to the lowness of the skate: I think it's great, skates have been getting lower and lower since the 1950s and I think this is just the next step in the natural evolution.

Why is kor only sold up north?

Most of our Canadian members complain about not being able to find them. They just have a small number of dealers at this time.

Amen to what Gavin said... the Shift 1s are incredible. I'd love to try the Shift 2s, but obviously none in Australia. But the biggest problem I have is that my original Shift 1s (now 18 months old) barely have a scratch on them, plus I've got a spare pair of brand new Shift 1s sitting in the cupboard waiting...

By the time I wear out what I've already got, I wouldn't be surprised if Kor are up to the Shift 6 (and that's saying something, considering how long it took them to follow up with the Shift 2!!!)

All that said, I'm still always on the lookout for a bargain on a pair of Shift 1s... so if anyone sees any at a reasonable price, by all means sing out. I figure if Kor ever do go bust (or never remake the Shift 1) I should snaffle as many pairs now as I can... expect to be skating and playing hockey well into my 70s!

Iginla wore some Shift1's for a little bit in preseason when Kor first came out. Some of the people involved in testing (perhaps even some investors?) were rumored to be on the Flames.

Of course.... with equipment deals being what they are I'm sure Iggy had to wear Bauer's during regular season (or whomever his deal is with) not to mention that Kor's weren't likely approved for NHL play yet and so forth.

Also, when it comes to equipment I'm sure teams and players have agreements in place with the manufacturer to get at a lower expense and such.

Think of Inno. For the longest time, Inno made some of the best most durable products but you never saw them in the NHL.

Funny how things work. $$$$$$$$$ IS KING!! The reason I ask is because I was told by Vince a while back that Kor was signing a big name for this season but wouldnt say who.

I don't know if Kor has pockets deep enough to sign a major player. I don't think they've been moving much product over the last year plus while everyone waited for the Shift 2.

Oddly, I will have some things to share regarding Kor soon as well. I can mimick your sentiments in that the folks at Kor really surprised me at how friendly and service oriented they seemed to be. I will let fill in the details within a few weeks.

Very nice report on the factory. I still have my Shift 1's but plan to upgrade to the Shift 2's in the spring (at the 2 year mark of owning Shift 1's) and keep the Shift 1's as an incredible pair of backup skates.

I bought them without trying them and loved them.

I would love to buy a pair of Shift 2's, problem is the closest LHS carrying them is somewhere around 4-5 states away. Maybe one of you guys could put a bug in their sales and marketing deparment. Maybe they could team up with a major internet player or even institute a program along the lines of the following on their own....

1. I measure my feet at X long

2. I buy skates with a credit card

3. They ship what they think will fit the best

4a. I try them on at home if they fit I keep

4b. If they don't fit I return for a size larger or smaller as often as needed

4c. I don't like I return for a full refund

5. I get a size I like I bake I sharpen they are mine

This would get there product on the market increasing word of mouth and hopefully demand. They would be able to reach a much larger market than they do now.

This is what I did... Got them from Jimmy. He is about an 8 hour drive from me. We talked size and he was dead on accurate. Shipped me the skates and it's been 1.5 years.

I've inquired and the 2 LHS have no interest in carrying this line. One of them even no longer carries Graf. This is Florida, the one shop is smaller than a 1 bedroom apartment. They just can't move enough product to stock a full compliment of sizes in an offshoot line that doesn't have the demand of the big 2.
