KOR Shift 1 and 2

Recommended Posts

Why not lace them up and kick your foot all the way forward? Then from the back, you can see how much room would be in the front if your heel were kicked back?

Don't go by insoles.

Yeah, it does suck as far as the holders go. The first pair I ordered was to small, and came with the pitch holders. I should get the new pair tomorrow, so we'll see. I normally skate on custom+ anyway, so it's not really a big deal to me. Worse comes to worst, I'll see about putting heel lifts in.

Why would you need lifts? Tuuk and PITCH are the same height

It could be my mistake, but I thought I read someone on here who said that the custom+ on the Kors made it seem even more pitched toward the heels than on a Bauer boot. If it wasn't clear, I meant putting them on the custom+ ones, not the Pitch. Although, now that I'm typing it out, it does sound like I'm talking out of my ass.

JR, its tough to tell, because of the neoprene in the toe. If my toe feathers that, am I ok?

I guess that would make fitting these skates interesting? How squishy is the neoprene?

-1 PITCH setting = Custom+

Kick it forward - obviously the neoprene will stretch

Yea I can fit 2 fingers behind my heel so theyre about a half a size too big.

That's way more than a half size. That's more like a size or a size and a half unless your fingers are the diameter of a #2 pencil.

I worded it wrong, the length from the heel of the skate to my heel is like a finger and a quarter. I was going width wise, I dont know why.

"These skates will have either a TUUK Custom+ or a Pitch 3 holder. We unfortunately cannot determine which holder you will receive with your order or take requests for a specific model. If this is an issue please do not order these skates" --- HG

What stupid customer service!

FWIW, I spoke with HG and the agent said that about 85% of the skates have the pitch 3s. So if you want to play the odds...

I measured and the amount of space behind my heel is about 9/16". It Measured the exact same with just the footbed (9/16"). Shoud I move down from the 8.5 to the 7.5 or to the 8? Sorry for all of the questions, Id rather have this be the last time I get shipped skates as I really need them.

I'm surprised more ppl aren't happy about the tuuks, given how weight obsessed many are and the fact that it is lighter than a pitch.

Dont know if this has been discussed, but with the way the holders are anchored in the Shift-1's how can someone replace them if they get destoyed?

You can only replace to the same holder style you currently have, since you need the bolting pattern to match the base. The bolts are allen 3mm.

any holder with same hole pattern will work -- so pitch3, custom+, or current easton holder should all be easy swaps. i believe those are the only 3, but there's a thread about which patterns line up somewhere, should be able to find with a search.

Just received by Shift 1's from HG.

Just a quick question,

How long should they be baked for and what else should I do during the baking procedure after they are on my feet from the oven.

Thanks

Hey Giovanni, try visiting the webpage http://www.korhockey.com/home.html, there you'll find a .pdf with the thermoforming instructions, Shift1 skates take slightly more time than the Shift2, so instead of a 7 min first cycle, go for 8 minutes.

Once on your feet, make sure you kick your heel as far back as possible, move your feet inside briefly to relieve any pressure points, then you can even use your hands to press the skate against your feet, ensuring it will completely wrap around your foot. All these once you've tightened your laces of course.

Just got my Kor's the other day. I'm using Vapor 19's in a size 7EE that are a little too long. So I got a size 7D in the Kors'.

The left boot fits great but the right boot I'm having some issues with the toebox. It's not the length but the width. The instep side where the gray and blue piece of rubber/plastic attaches to the toebox and the first eyelet area. I baked it a second time and put a pad where the joint of my big toe is and that pushed out the boot area that moldable but not the hot spot.

Anyway I haven't skated in them yet, I'll hit the ice tomorrow and see how it is. I covered up the stitching on the inside of the boot ( honestly, stitching on the inside of a skate right near the ball of your foot, not good ).

Other than that I'm excited about these skates and hope I can figure something out about the toebox since I read punching that area won't work.

btw, they came with pitch's.

i baked mine twice. they are a bit bigger in the toes, but i had a feeling if i exchanged them for a .5 size smaller they would be too small. i used the easton sbx's previously and they are tight toward the toes, these are not, great feel. only problem is the ankly area. my foot is apparently taller than Kor guessed it would be, so my ankle is a little above their ankle padding. this means that where the composite boot curls back in, is right up against my ankle with very little padding.

skated on them and my balance was way off, turns out the way i normally tape my shins was interfering with the mobility of the skates, after i removed the tape, the skates were great. they felt different but i had a great game with them.

2 games, 2 hatties. these skates are magic! :D

glad i bought them, my feet dont hurt post game like they did in my eastons. one thing i do notice that if there is impact i will have pain. i tried to keep the puck in at the point and banged my skate against the boards, and pain resonated in my foot for some time. no biggie though.

Skated at open skate for about an hour. The toebox got a little pinchy at the end and I'll have to figure something out.

As for the skate itself. Pretty cool. Much different than my Vapor 19's. The rocker of the blade feels like I'm on goalie skates and they seem much slower. I'll try them a few more times before I mess with that because I really liked the edge control and balance I felt on them.

I kept hitting the toe part of the blade so I may try a -1 on the pitches to mimic the vapors a little more.

I had the opposite experience - mine feel like bomb proof tanks. Have taken some hard hits and they shrugged them off without any real pain.

I'm thinking about picking up a pair of these. Currently skating in Easton Stealth S7 size 8D. I could probably go down to a 7.5 in the Stealth since I can jam my index finger behind my heel before lacing it up. Would youse guys suggest I go to a 8.5 in the Shift1? The fit of the size 8D Stealth s7 is good but I would say it is a high performance fit. Thanks !

If I were you, I would go for the 8.5 KOR. I am an 8 in Eastons and a 9 in KOR. The problem is, it all depends on the shape of your foot in relation to the shape of the skate. If you really have trouble choosing, go through this thread and find the correct sizing chart (posted by SRI), trace your feet, measure and compare it to the sizing chart? I hope this helps? KOR's are amazing skates, so I am sure you will enjoy them.
