KOR Shift 1 and 2

Recommended Posts

A little bump here. How are the buyers liking the new skate?

I sold about a dozen so far, half to folks who had the Shift 1. Feedback has been great, no complaints. Come on John, you are ready for another pair? Gear whore!

Jimmy: Of the people who have bought the Shift 2 after owning the Shift 1, have any told you which skate they preferred? I am really interested in the apparent gains in mobility and the fast turning that is advertised with the Kors. That being said, I am a little worried that the Shift 2's won't be able to do these things as well as the Shift 1's because of their higher cut. Have any of your customers alluded to this fact?

I was concerned like you about a loss of agility with the higher cut boot. None of the customers I querried mentioned any loss of agility, although the responses seemed to not makes sense as a higher cut boot would seem to restrict it somewhat. They didn't notice anything. I know Kor tested it well and decided that they didn't need to produce the lower cut model anymore because the differences were insignificant. So far, their tests have proved true. Still, I think the lower boot was better, but what do I know.

Does this mean they won't be making the Shift 1 anymore? Have they scrapped the idea of updating this model?

haha. I'm getting them for sure, just a question of when! I think I'm about a year and a half on my Shift 1's...I'd like to hold out a few months. Maybe a Christmas gift for myself?

How can they be available at most retailers across america. The dealer list he was talking about at the website is pretty sparse. According to the list they are available in only 12 of the 50 states. It also only lists 4 dealers in all of Ontario, which has an *ssload of hockey players.

While I understand Florida is not the hockey capital of North America a 12-18 hour drive to the closest retailer to try on a pair of skates is pretty far. These are my last hope of ever having a pair of skates fit my duck shaped feet.

It's hard for a new company to build a dealer base. It takes time and a network of good reps to build a solid dealer network.

Are the insoles in the Shift 1 built right into the boot? Do they fully mould to your foot; effectively creating a "custom" footbed? I thought I remembered reading something about this, but couldn't find it when I searched....

Noodle, I think that's how the Shift1's were created and how they worked but I believe the Shift2's have a removable footbed now since you can supposably swap holders. I would imagine the footbeds still have a molding feature with them, its just I don't think they are "stuck" in anymore.

Try the Shift 2's for the first time last night. The skates are definitely lighter than the Shift 1's. They're not drastically lighter when holding a Shift 2 in one hand and a Shift 1 in the other. However, the difference is more noticable once you put them on. The 1's feel like they have more weight in the footbed area of the skate in comparison to the 2's. Personally, found the 1's to be more comfortable. For some odd reason, my right foot is practically touching the toe cap while my left foot fits perfectly. What adds to the issue is that my right foot is actually a half size smaller than my left. Is it possible that the ankle padding may be causing this. Just by comparing the left ankle padding versus the right one, it appears that the right one is more thicker in the Achilles area. Is there a way to correct this?

If you haven't had them molded, do it. If they weren't molded properly, do it again. If they were molded properly, do it again.. Make absolutely sure you kick heel back hard before lacing up during molding. I spot checked 4 pairs today to see if there were any issues with more padding on one skate vs the other, to me they all looked equal.

The 2's weight approx 100g lighter than the 1's, and they are approx same weight as the XXXX. perhaps even a little less.

And every pair should weigh the same thanks to the new production facility/methods.

It doesn't surprise me they were able to shave off that much weight while going with a higher cut. I look at my shift 1s and think of so much stuff on them that is needless or could stand refinement.

Anyone know if Kor will be able to customize finally? I need a bigger toebox than what was on the Shift1's (and that's not heat formable like the rest of the skate...)

You can stretch the toe cap a bit on a boot stretcher.
