Happy with your one90's?

5 kids at the rink I work at got these skates. The 5 kids have all tried returning them or selling them because they are either too stiff, or just too difficult to get used to. The kids have gone back to their old skates, or bought new versions of their old skates. And im talking about Elite level HS players. I can see this skate working for SOME people, but i really think most people should stick to what they are using. They hype for this skate is not matching the performance at all.

JR,

This gets me off the hook!! "hey, I let you try on 5 different sizes, you said you have been skating for 8 years, you said this pair fit the best, so don't tell me now after you have used them that the skates don't fit." My job is to eliminate doubt in the player's head. I know its not easy but the process of elimination is what helps to decide which skate fits the best.

The stuff we are saying to ourselves they never get to hear. I only share with the staff after the player has left the shop!! %#&*(@!%%^ chucklehead!!!

I always asked people to humor me and try on another size or width before they made their decision. More often then not, the different size was a better fit. I always loved the "experts" who came in looking to show how much they knew when they bought skates. From the guy who has "always worn an 8 no matter the brand or model to the guy who wants his skates two sizes to big so it doesn't hurt when he blocks shots. Those few customers who came in and said "I need skates, what do you have?" always made my day.

What are the models these five players were previously skating in before One90s? Just curious.

I wish I could bring one of you guys the next time I go try on skates. The last time I tried on skates the doofus measured my foot on one of those sliding foot scales (Brannock device?) then brought out 3 skates from different brands in my foot size. I ended up buying skates 3 sizes smaller.

As bad as some stores can be when it comes to skates, I have to give it up for PIAS because the guy was seemingly trying to sell me down to a different model because people complained of the stiffness, then I just went out to my truck and brought in my steel-like 705s.

After being on ice 7 times with my One90's, I'm backing up hehateme's observations. The One90's are a great, light, extremely advanced skate, but just not for me. Luckily my eyelets are so severely misaligned my LHS is getting the skates warranteed and giving me store credit with which I'll buy another pair of XXX's.

This thread is probably the most informative thread on one90 skates I've seen. Not that I was going to ever buy them but it kinda takes away my desire to buy them since I don't think they'd work for me.

The funny thing is how people are treating the "They don't work for me" as such a big deal. It is what it is, a skate. Nothing has changed. If it doesn't fit you, it doesn't fit you.

I agree with JR. Its not like every player in the NHL is wearing them, either.

i think there was just so much hype around them so everybody preordered them from online stores, and most got the wrong size

Actually I went to my LHS and tried on nearly every skate they had, and the One90 was the best fit. They lock my heel in better than my XXX's and fit my forefoot and toes better with the anatomical toe cap. For some reason though the cut of the boot and its stiffness just don't mesh with my game. I'm not trying to make it seem like some tragedy that the One90's don't work, I'm just sharing my experience with the skate.

I just wanna share my impression about the NikeBauer Flagship...

This summer i went to a hockeyshop and they had the ONE90 in stock and i was really shocked. I never expected to see the ONE90 so early in Europe.. As i said i was really impressed by seeing this skate but when i touched the skate and when i tried the ONE90 on i was bummed. In my view this skate is overrated. The material feels a bit cheap (does not mean that it IS cheap, just feels so) and the inside is kind of adamant... Almost no padding in the heel and not that ergonomic and anklefriendly as i imagined the skate. Maybe this is the reason cause the skate has not seen a skateoven yet but i dont think that would solve all my objection.

Im happy for everyone that fits the ONE90 and is happy with this very skate but its just not my skate. Maybe im lucky cause i dont have to spend so much money on this one ;)

After that i tried on a pair of 8090 (which i own) and i really felt which skate was built for me and which was not.

I don't understand how people coming from Vapor XXX's have issues with these skates. I skated on the XX's and XXX's for the last 3 years. When I switched to the ONE90's I had about a weeks adjustment period, my first skate I recall I was like willing to throw the skates out, second time around was a night and day difference, now I simply love the skates. You have to commit to the skates and you will see.

Well if you are reply on my posting, i gotta admit that i never wanted to buy them. Im so pleased with my 8090 without ANY pain (if anyone remembers my huge whine about skatepain back in the day) and it was just a coinkidink that i saw them in the shop.

That is exactly the issue. Because this skate is a 3D mold it can fit almost any foot (having to maybe change the insole) so this whinning that they don't work I dont buy.

I had the same complaint about a 9K that a player from the NJ Devils brought in that the team had sent him. He took it to have the blades mounted ( as the NHL teams often have them sent with no blades attached) and the whole problem was misalligned holders and a bad profile.

We realigned both pairs of his skates Profiled them to what might work for him (as I was not able to go watch him skate with his Pro guys).

He called me the next day and said they didnt feel great but his old 8090's felt the best they had ever felt. Even the guys he skated with noticed an improvement.

Anyway he left for a pre-camp physical and skate and his AHL coach was there and couldnt believe the diffrence in his skating. He might be staying up with the big club as there is an inury in the lineup.

Anyway doesnt matter how good you are if the skate doesnt fit you or hasnt been made to fit your foot the best and profiled for your style (ALL ONE90's have to be profiled and have the toe blended IMO) "then it doesnt really matter what you say" as the Rock says.....LOL it just wont work.p
