yvan12 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 It is hard to believe that after what happened on 9.11.01 that so many people still think athletes and rock stars are heroes and role models when it is the dedicated men and women who risk their lives each and every day who deserve our respect and admiration. As a Canadian, my heart and prayers go out to those who lost their lives or the lives of their loved ones on that tragic day and the days to follow. May we always remember them and what they did. Allsmokenopancake 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I was in my office, just north of DC (in greenbelt). My wife was in her office in DC, about 4 blocks from the whitehouse. She had been at the pentagon metro at about 8.30 that day. Where we lived at the time was less than a mile from the pentagon, facing the side that was hit. It took us over 4 hours to get home that day.The tops of the streetlights at the very bottom of the pike, where we lived were taken off by the plane as it went so low to hit the building. We took some photos, don't know if that was a good or bad thing, or if it was tasteless, but I usually have a camera with me so got some of the building burning, the literally hundreds of police/ambulances and fire engines at the scene. It was a very very bizarre day indeed. Coming from northern Ireland, terrorism is something you grow up with. My wife is from enniskillen, and her town was pretty much blown up some years ago, then in 98 the town over from her, Omagh, was blown up. So we were used to bomb warnings, bombings and things like that, but this was different, creepier because there was no warning.
CHIEF22 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I was on the road doing a parts pick-up sitting at a red light. The DJ on the radio station I was listening to made a comment about "not usually telling people to do this, but if you can get to a TV set because a plane has just hit one of the World Trade Center towers". Thought at the time it was just a big OOPS, But them they came on and said another had hit.Today has eerily familiar look to it here in the Northeast. The sky is crystal clear blue just like it was that day.Remember Fallen Brothers - FDNY, Always in our Hearts...
KYHockey3 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 i was in 7th grade and i remember watching it in every class. 9/.11 will most likely be the biggest tragedy that will happen in our lifetime.t was a very sad thing.
Dante2004 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 Just wondering where you boys were when you found out what happened/was happening...I was in lunch when one of my buddies told me what was going on. Wow...you didn't find out until lunch?I watch the 2nd collision and the towers fall, live on TV. VERY eerie feeling. You had to keep telling yourself this is REAL...not a movie.I was at work when it happened and we all went into a conference room and turned on the TV when we heard about the first plane. I worked in a VERY culturally diverse environment. I felt sorry for several of the guys in the room, because in the back of most our minds we were thinking awful thoughts about certain peoples home countries. sc37 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I was in class, and we essentially stopped and did nothing the rest of the day.It was interesting for me too, cause I went to NYC in early November that year for my aunt's wedding. Driving by on the highway, it was weird seeing where the towers were and the haze that hung over the site. We were in Little Italy and Chinatown in mid/lower Manhattan...and we walked as close as you could get to the area one afternoon and you could smell stuff burning and smoldering. Definitely brings to light all the things the rescuers went through, and all those health issues many have now.

sc37 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I'd add I was just there visiting the site itself a little more than 3 weeks ago...where hundreds and hundreds of people are today. I can only say I got a weird feeling looking down where everything was. It's crazy seeing how big the site was...but good to see that everything is getting put back together. The buildings around the towers have been repaired or are being fixed now. And the World Financial Center which was damaged, looks like nothing happened to it...but security is big. We were inside there and had at least two dogs come by and sniff everything in the short time I was there. But not to get off topic, security at the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island wasn't outstanding, even though they've placed all sort of restrictions on things. RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I was watching the coverage live in our Newsroom. At first we thought it was a small commuter plane (that was the inital indication on CNN). Although unfortunate, we were goofing on it. As if someone wouldn't see the towers on a day that clear...dumb ass! Radio people can be pretty cruel.Once we saw the second plane hit we knew this wasn't an accident, and it got very, very quiet...saw the Pentagon...then the towers fell. I've never had such a strange, sick feeling watching a news story unfold. I didn't get a lot of work done that day...just stood and watched. I can only imagine how busy a major US Network Newsroom must've been...because ours was crazy...and we were only doing updates, based on the news from other sources. All 3 of our stations ended up flipping to a news feed to cover it, and did that for about 3-4 hours...eventually 2 of the 3 went back to regular format and broke in with updates as they came in...one station stayed with the news feed until late that afternoon. We have a writer here who's brother is a trucker...he was going to NY State at the time, so they were trying to get in touch with him...turns out he hadn't crossed at Buffalo yet, so he was just tied up at the border...I ended up doing an audio mix with clips from various newscasts mixed with the song "The Change" by Garth Brooks (one of our stations is a country station).** side note: I've searched Limewire and various other file sharing programs, and about 90% of the WTC mixes I've seen to that song is the one I did**
Chadd 916 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 Just wondering where you boys were when you found out what happened/was happening...I was in lunch when one of my buddies told me what was going on. I was at work. I saw a blurb on CNN or another news website and went upstairs to watch for a couple minutes with everyone else at work. After the towers collapsed, I went back to work. Everyone else went home for the day and most didn't come back for a couple days. The owner of the company had a daughter going to school in NYC and he sent a former special forces guy who worked with us in to get her out. She was home the next morning. Fury of One 6 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I was working at Sports Authority and heard an announcement over the loudspeakers and thought it was a little plane or something at first. Then I heard the second announcement. We than ran over to the Costco next to us and watched as the towers fell. I use to help run an adult beginner clinic at the time and we still had it that Friday night of the week it happened. We found out that night that one of the guys that used to come to the clinic was in one of the towers. It was kind of a somber night, but everyone just wanted to take their mind off of it. JR Boucicaut 3802 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I was sleeping (I sleep with the radio on) and the station I had it on in Orlando started the day with Howard Stern. I woke up shortly after the first plane hit (at that point they still thought it was a commuter plane) and since I worked for an airline and spent a lot of time plane-watching, even without my contacts in I could tell that it was a 757. Ended up going to school where I saw the towers fall, then decided to just go home. Went to NYC three wks later for my sister's wedding and that night decided to go to the City, but couldn't bring myself to go to the site - I got as far as West Side Hwy and Chambers St.
Oberon 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I was at work, hoping my dad wasn't in the Pentagon. He works for the DoD, and his office is right across the highway, but he spends a lot of time there. I wasn't able to reach him until about 2:00 in the afternoon. He sure as hell didn't wait for someone to tell him he had the rest of the day off, and was in his car within minutes, but it still took him a couple hours to get out of D.C. Sven 1 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I got home and was in a hurry. Just needed some info from the Videotext. I watched TV for like 2 minutes and i saw the WTC on fire and was like "Thats not funny, i hate those movies." and turned the TV off and left the house because my parents had a wedding anniversary dinner. When we were eating the TVs were on and i was paralized. At the moment my parents are in the USA and their wedding anniversary is today. Weird feeling for them.Condolences to everyone who had to experience this pain.

Duder84 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I had just gotten out of the shower and was dressing when my brother came into my room and told me planes have just ran into the WTC. I thought he was watching a movie at first and just brushed it off. When I finally saw what actually happened I still couldn't believe it, I was just numb. Condolences to those who lost loved ones or friends.
ponty 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2006 I wasnt working at the time and my morning always started with my job search online. Went to gazette.com and saw the headlines then proceeded to watch on CNN shortly after the 1st plane hit. I knew right away it was a larger plane that hit due to the size of the hole.Like everyone else I was just sick the rest of the day.Since we have Air Force Academy close by in Monument you started to hear F16's and other fighters creating a no fly zone in the area for itself and other facilities (e.g. Norad). This lasted for about two months day and night. Scary times indeed.
