Spring Break Trip

Recommended Posts

So me and a few friends are thinking about what to do on our Spring Break, which is in March. We're only 16, but I have my license so i'd be driving. I'm curious if anybody could help me out on a few questions i have.

I want to know since i still have restrictions on my license i can't drive past like 12 and can't drive till 5, but thats not a problem. I'm coming from Nova Scotia, most likely to Bangor, and want to know if me being 16, with friends in the car, would it be a problem crossing the border? I know we wouldn't be able to get a hotel room as we're only 16, you have to be 18 right? It just be a few nights, then leave again. I just want to know if being our age it would be anymore problem getting over the border? I guess thats my main concern. I know we're not allowed to spend more then $250 if you're staying under a week i think it is, so we wouldn't have to pay duty if we kept under that. I guess thats it for now, if i think of any other worries i'll post. But if someone could answer me, that would be great, even if anybody else had some experiences like this.

If you have your parents' credit card it shouldnt be too hard to get a hotel.

To hold it, but signing in/out may pose a problem.

why would you want to go to bangor maine?

Trailer for sale or rent

Rooms to let...fifty cents.

No phone, no pool, no pets

I ain't got no cigarettes

Ah, but..two hours of pushin' broom

Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room

I'm a man of means by no means

King of the road.

Third boxcar, midnight train

Destination...Bangor, Maine.

Old worn out clothes and shoes,

I don't pay no union dues,

I smoke old stogies I have found

Short, but not too big around

I'm a man of means by no means

King of the road.

I know every engineer on every train

All of their children, and all of their names

And every handout in every town

And every lock that ain't locked

When no one's around.

I sing,

Trailers for sale or rent

Rooms to let, fifty cents

No phone, no pool, no pets

I ain't got no cigarettes

Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom

Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room

I'm a man of means by no means

King of the road.

- Sorry I had to when I saw Bangor, Maine...

Getting a hotel might be a problem. I'm 16 and me and my friends are planning a ski trip in december and the hotel only took us because the guides we're bringing are over 19.

Taking the ferry Miike? Hey guys he might not be planning to STAY in Bangor; it's the port of entry to the US. CAA might be able to give you some information on travel restrictions.

Thanks for that HM, I forgot about them, my family is actually members. Actually not planning on taking the ferry, just driving, most likely through St. Stephen / Calais border. Bangor is one reason because its within a reasonable driving distance, and it has

some stores we like. Its still in early planning stages but we'll see. I just want to get some info now, to get a head start.

If he takes the Cat he will either come into Bar Harbor or Portland, there ain't any water in Bangor except for the Penobscot River.

That being said, I can remember the last time I went into St.Stephen. We got a major hard time at the Calais crossing, and that was before all the new Homeland Security stuff. We werent quite as young as you guys are, too. The only other hard time I got was going into Quebec above Jackman, but that involved 11 guys with a keg of beer and a motorhome. I don't know how it works over there for you being 16, but here if you are that young and haven't had your licence for at least 6 months you can't have anyone under 18 in the vehicle. I don't know if that will apply to you as you are coming from Canada or not. If the rest works out you might want to look at taking the Cat to Portland. I know its a pretty pricy ride, but there is more to see and do in less of a distance than it is from the border to Bangor. New Hampshire is less than an hour away and the Lewiston/Auburn area is about a half an hour.

Hope that helps...

Should just do what we're abuot to do. Wait till your 18. Senior year.

1. Youll be older and it will be easier

2. Youll have more money

3. Prolly be smarter

People usually get into more trouble when they're eighteen than they do when they were sixteen. At least that has been the experience for a number of the people that I grew-up with.

Yeah, when you turn 18 the first trip anywhere is real rough.

Go to Lewiston see the Lewistion MAINEiacs play. LOL - My bro. plays there.

Best place to be in Maine IMO is Portland. There's so much thing to do and visit there. Lewiston/Auburn area is not bad. But if you go to Bangor, you might be able to go to Orono (15 min. away max. from Bangor) to visit the University of Maine and you might be able to see a D1 game there.

Maine is a great place...

Is that a texas mickey?

If it is, why did they name it after the smallest size? lol

Yeah, that's a texas mickey. 3 litres, or about 101 ounces. Think 4 fifths. I'm not entirely sure why they're called texas mickeys, but when I was backpacking around Europe this summer I ran into some dudes from Texas, and they had never heard of a Texas mickey in their lives. Maybe it's just a Canadian thing, but they had never even seen bottles of liquour that big in their lives.

You'll want to check on whether you'll even be able to cross the border at 16 without an adult. I can't recall for sure, but when my 2 cousins rode the bus down to visit me from Canada, I think their dad had to get them across the border first.

you'll need a note from your parents saying they're allowing you to cross the border on your own or something along those lines to give to customs.

Good luck with UMaine tix. That has to be one of the hardest tickets to get in the state. Be even worse seeing as how they will probally be ranked #1 this week.
