Top 20 Goals of All Time

Recommended Posts

Definetly. I think it probably would of been just an oridnary goal, if he didnt get hooked. Allthough I am pretty sure that was goin to be called a penalty shot. What do you think?

A lot of these goals remind me of an old ESPN ad:

"Evander, Charlie Steiner was saying you're not even one of the top 50 boxers anymore."

"In the world?"

"In Georgia."

that was horrible. I don't even know why that between the legs deflection made it, I've seen Lecavalier do it probably 10 times and score on it maybe 4 times. One of which was a game tying goal in the playoffs in the stanley cup year.

There's definitely been better goals than those chosen in the video... but what do you expect with a video made by probably some 17 year old kid maybe even younger.

# 5 That move from behind the cage where he picks up the puck with his stick and shoves it to top left. Is that legal and if it is there any way to stop it if you are a goalie, seems like the move isn't all that difficult and effective.

It's legal if you keep your stick low enough. A goalie can huge the post, cover that side of the net or challenge the shooter and make him lose control to stop him from scoring.

Wheres Orr's goal I would have thought that was #1 for sure.

The jump made the goal... the goal wasnt that great, but it did mean a lot. Wheres stephane matteau's goal in game 7? We can fight about it all day.

I can't believe nobody mentioned the double OT game winning Gilmour spin-o-rama wraparound goal from the '93 playoffs. Best goal I've seen in my life.

There some goals in this montage that should have been there..

I miss stand up goalies :( Butterfly just doesn't seem as entertaining to watch.

agreed.. nothing like those 80s goalies sliding about the ice

Shootout goals deserve a special category, with Malik topping Datsyuk for the top two.

Yzerman's goal at #20 is one of the top goals I've ever seen. Factoring the beauty of the goal, the fact it was an OT playoff game (if I remember correctly) and the skill of the goal it has to be in the top few.

The great camera angle didn't hurt either.

I remember Listrom had a similar goal in the finals of the playoffs (Sweden/Finland), right? It was tied going into the third and right off the opening faceoff, Lidstrom steps over the blue line and cranks one right over Nitty's shoulder.

Yzerman's was in game 7 of the second round, OT off a Gretzky turn-over. Lucky for the Wings Kypreos decided to run Fuhr in the first round :)

The fact that there isnt one goal by Mario Lemieux, and one cheesy one from Gretzky late in his career..

Theres a couple from both of them that should have been on there..Lemieux.. 91 Finals against the North Stars.. the one against the Leafs where he has 2 defencemen hooking him and goes upstairs.. 87 Canada Cup winning goal.. the goal where he has Ray Bourque facing the other way..

Gretzky has a bunch im sure..the one that stands out though is the one against Calgary in OT 1988 I think.. where he comes down the left side and hammers top shelf.. Theres a goal from Denis Savard in the 80s as well against the Oilers that should have been on there.. I agree with the guy who mentioned Gilmours wraparound against the Blues in OT .. The Yzerman goal should be top 5-top 10 .. and the Orr one is a given.. there was so many that he missed..

I cant see the video, but is Darren Mcarty's goal against Philly in there? If I remeber correctly he beat three guys and the goalie in overtime. maybe the 98 playoffs?

cause4alarm: Lidstroms goal (the one you mentioned) was the gwg in the final at the olympics.

Besides it beeing a awesome shot from the blueline, the assists for the goal were Sundin and Forsberg.

I remember it was quite it big thing for the swedes that their 3 biggest stars (period) combined for the winning goal.

I agree. I think that the situation should be taken into account as well as the goal itself. Hopefully McCarty's goal was up there somewhere (I can't see the video either). To score a goal like that in the Stanley Cup Finals is absolutely ridiculous.

forsberg's olympics goal? i think that should be on there somewhere

If you put that one on, then you'd have to put on the Kent Nilson one that started it all.

Messier going through the Islanders in the '84 finals was pretty good - and huge.

Alfie's 1-on-4 series-ending OT goal wasn't bad either, considering that he had sticks being shoved down every orifice at the time and still got a shot off.

For me it would be these ones:

Gretzky to Lemieux In the Canada Cup 87 as mentioned above.

The two lemieux goals - northstars and bourque.

The Gretzky breakaway against the Islanders
