Batman: The Dark Knight

Recommended Posts

Were my eyes just buggy or did the bank manager's nameplate on his desk say: "Edward Nigma"?

It better not be some hackneyed arc where the Joker's gas grenade drove him nuts.

Screw you.

Now I have to go see the movie again. :P

Haha.

Cause apparently DK isn't doing so well: http://io9.com/5027049/the-dark-knight-mor...ssful-than-ever

So I'm just a Warner Bros. plant trying to drum up tickets sales.

I think Bale could tolerate a Robin as long as Nolan continues to write, direct, and otherwise build him up as a bonafide A-lister.

I'm all for a loose adaptation of the Dark Knight Returns.....set it 10 years later in Gotham, where Batman has been "retired" and the city is a mess with ordinary criminals. Bruce feels guilty about what happened to Dent so he's been funding his recovery in Arkham (plastic surgery, etc. psych treatment), and Dent is released but turns back to crime and quickly takes over as the head crime boss and Batman has to come out of retirement to stop him. Gordon is retired and the new Commish is very anti-Batman so he will have to deal with Dent and the police at the same time, but Gordon is still helping him out behind the scenes. Do it, Nolan!

As I said before, C. Nolan and Bale all but laughed at the notion of doing a movie involving Robin. Their polite reasoning is that in this version, Robin would be a child and there's no reason he'd be around.

The humor was a large element of the original Batman series featuring Robin with all the "HOLY _____, BATMAN!" exclamations. There's no place for that in this darker, moodier, and much better Batman series. Even without those statements, Robin was oftentimes the comic relief of the series.

I agree, Robin would not have been a good fit in this movie at all. It was such a dark and serious film, Robin really would have changed the complexion of the movie. The Dark Knight is way better off without Robin.

Robin was in Dark Knight Returns and that was plenty 'gritty' enough. I think Robin is a complex character, to do the story justice you'd almost need a full movie, and I just don't think it's a storyline really worth persuing.

Though true, that's a helluva large order to process in the span of one movie. It'd be a PT Star Wars-like leap if we skipped ahead and Batman had a sidekick. Thank God they won't touch that though.

Ah I have avoided this thread like the plague til last night when I finally saw it in IMAX...I came out of the theater with the biggest smile on my face. So goooood. To anyone who has seen it in IMAX, anyone else find it a bit tough to follow the final fight sequence when Batman was fighting in the sonar vision?

I don't know if it was the IMAX that made that scene hard to follow. I had a hard time with it in a 'normal' theatre.

He was, but he probably wouldn't translate well to the screen, especially in an introductory role.

Absolutely. The time it would take to develop the Robin character would sidetrack the entire movie. And then what? Batgirl? Nightwing?

I was really underwhelmed by Bale...and Rachel definitely fell short of what a superhero's love interest should be.

Aside from that, the movie was terrific. There was definitely a feeling of complete and total chaos (danger) that sucked me in and held me through the whole movie. My wrist is all dug-up from my girlfriend's fingernails, so I guess it did the job for her, too.

That's what I liked about Bale's performance. Effective, yet he took a backseat in this one and I assume that's because the next one will have him back in the spotlight.

Hell of a movie is all I can really say. While I've seen all the other Batman's, I was never really intrigued or entertained by them. This one was definitely different though, one of the best movie's I can honestly say I've probably ever seen.

Bale and Ledger both played their characters perfectly. Ledger really stole the show though, him as the Joker was just some of the best, if not the best, psychotic-crazed-maniac acting, while still drawing you in, I have ever seen.

I definitely have to give this a big two-thumbs up. Delivered on every account.

It was excellent. Very intense. Ledger was great. Too often you watch a role and all you can think of is "<actors name> as <character>". I never thought too much about that, he was pretty absorbed into the character. But the movie worked because the ensemble case was all utilized well: Oldman, Cain, Freeman, they don't get short shifted. Gyllenhaal is 100x the actress that hack Katie Holmes is (by far the worst part of the first movie), but she's not even the least bit attractive. That's a nitpick though.

I thought I saw it was already over $300, making it the quickest ever to that level. It's got a chance to top Titanic for the highest grossing movie ever.

The thing that is wild about this movie is that everybody I've talked to who's already seen it wants to go see it again.

I cheated for it this weekend. Owed the wife a showing of Mamma Mia! so I bought tickets for TDK instead to propel its gross and to feel like less of a faygo when having to sit thru that crap.

You would.

They'll probably get more of my money; I wanna go see it on IMAX if I get the time.

I think I'm going to finally get a chance to see it this week. I'm stuck in Buffalo until 430 on Wednesday afternoon.
