forbs02 20 Report post Posted May 23, 2007 WHAMThis is the women's league I play in. They have a bunch of teams ranging from beginners up to national team players. I play in the A2 division. It costs anywhere from $350 to $500 per season depending on how many players you roster. They have fall and spring board meetings that a rep from each team needs to go to. Its a fun league. We're not playing the spring/summer.Both leagues have 40+ teams in at least 8 divisions or so. Both play at various rinks on long island. Also available to my area are in-house leagues at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan and Aviator Sports center in Brooklyn. There's also a new rink being built in Queens that will hopefully run an in-house league, since it's all of 5 minutes from where I live.

Hooah4 12 Report post Posted May 24, 2007 Do all your teams accept beginners? Ours is broken down from A level to D level and the team captains draftThe first league (35+)in Bethlehem is broken down into 2 divisions. Beginners go into the intermediate/beginner league. There is an evaluation skate where all of the players do some drills and then scrimmage. The captains evaluate them and then draft at a later date. Next season same thing so that teams are balanced and rotated. It's meant to prevent the common method around here where in Men's league guys find other players from the top tier divisions to sandbag and dominate. One team had 2 players who played for the Royals in the ECHL. We had another team that was moved up to B level due to their complete dominance in C division. After losing the first half of their games they quit the league and all tried to get on teams again in C division.

GSHL99 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2007 http://www.gshockey.comGreater Seattle Hockey League, we had 89 teams during the winter season. During summer season usually 10-15 fewer teams. With A and B splits the teams are organized into 14 divisions with 1 being highest and 8B the lowest. IMHO, it's a little over divided. I think 4-5 divisions could accurately reflect the differences in level of play. It would be more fun to have divisons of 12-24 teams than playing the same 6-7 teams over and over again. jimmy 194 Report post Posted May 25, 2007 We have so many small leagues around here. People were fed up with the huge mega-leagues, so a lot of small offshoots were formed. Mostly 8-10 team leagues of varying caliber players. There are intense leagues for those who want to prove they could have made it to the NHL, but most leagues are just guys who want to have fun and exercise with a little competion but who also want to make it to work the next day. More than that, I would say that pick-up hockey is actually more popular than leagues and we have that morning, noon and nite. Guys like it because they get to play with the same guys, their friends, they pick the times they like to play, plus they save more than 1/2 of what the league costs, so they can play 2 pick-ups a week rather than just one league. technophile 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2007 How many teams does your league have in it?Does your league have a web site?Usually about 6-8 teams in each division (A, B, C) plus a "Lite" league that's basically an organized weekly drop-in (no refs). Usually about 14 players per team, including goalie. The league uses Pointstreak for stats, their info website is http://www.chaparralice.com/hockey.htmlOur league has 118 teams in the summer, normally upwards of 130 in other seasons.Holy cow! Is that multiple divisions, or all in one division? What's the schedule look like?

ctaz 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2007 that's not including the 2 women's team that make up the "women's division". Of course, they play each other for 12 games or more each session. The schedule is all over the place, games starting at 11:15pm during hockey season due to "competative" hockey. I'm enjoying the summer because no game starts later than 9:50 on either of my 2 teams. We have an uneven number of teams currently in our Thursday league, so each team gets a bye week and another week where they have a back-to-back games (against different opponents). I never realized our league was so large compared to leagues in other areas, although the monopoly that the Chiller rinks have in Columbus MIGHT have something to do with that.
