surprising to see NHL up there and not another sports game like Madden or NBA Live. Second to Bioshock that says quite a bit I guess?

BioShock is amazing... I bought it yesterday. The experimentation is great; combining plasmids and tonics for killer combos is a lot of fun.

But, the 9.5 and 9 scores are comforting, for 08. I wonder why 2K8 wasn't reviewed.

I plan on editing most of the players.

I think I read that you can't edit the ratings in Dynasty, which kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me.

As for the reviews, I have seen several where they say the leap from 07 to 08 is phenomenal, as big of a leap they've seen between games. EA seems to be taking 3 year plans towards their sports games now. Last year they laid the groundwork for NHL, this year they put some polish on it (better skating engine, better AI, better online, AHL franchises and create a play) and next year they should finish building out all of the nice to haves (fantasy draft for example).

Herb, you obviously can't edit once your in Dynasty, ie) editing prospects, etc. All of your edits beforehand will appear in the dynasty just like every single previous NHL game/other sports game ever to exist with an edit player feature.

It's a damn shame you can't change info/age like in the 2k series to cheat on the Dynasty though. A little unethical? Yeah, but so is charging for the same game for all those years.

And the age editing is fun too, in 2K. Making Joe Sakic 24 and giving him 99 potential was fun in 2K5.

O I C. The way I read the comment was that you would have to start a dynasty with standard pre-delivered rosters only and couldn't use edited players. I've never edited a player before.

This was the comment from the developer's blog.

"- Don’t like what your goalie is wearing for pads? Change it and then color them to any color scheme you want. You can edit player’s equipment during dynasty mode. Ratings can only be edited outside of Dynasty. I wouldn’t want you guys cheating. "

I'll take your word for it that you've done it before, but that's not what he makes it sound like.

is the dynasty for nhl 08 10 years again? i hope not, but i have a feeling it is. i wish they'd go to a 20 year dynasty. i know thats a lot to play through, but it's a pain taking rookies only halfway through their career before your time is done.

i love how in MVP baseball 2005 you get 120 years for your dynasty. i've never played it that far but its pretty cool how you could have an entire history of gameplay.

i never really play much in my dynasties, mainly the big games. i much rather deal with simulating and managing and developing everything. it's why i love eastside hockey manager. but with a 10 year dynasty, you don't really get anything accomplished with your players.

Mine's working, and once you get the controls down, it's a lot of fun. The One-on-One deking system is really cool (when used correctly), but it's very risk/reward. With better stickhandlers you can do more advanced moves, like toe drags and the like. The replays are cool too, since it records your movements with either stick for each one, so you can see exactly how you managed to pull off that killer move. The AI is pretty good, but it's too easy to stickhandle around people at times, but it IS on pro, so I'd imagine it would be better. If you liked 07, you'll like this. A lot.

i'm getting destroyed by the computer on PRO

when they have the puck in the offensive zone they really start to cycle and try and get a good shot..

there's more to the one-on-one deking thing than you think, i just flipped the puck over the guys stick and went around him and i'm pretty sure you can put it behind you and between your skates like you can in 2K8.

The thing I love about 08 is when you're Niedermayer you actually feel like you're skating as him especially when you skate back with him he can kick it and catch up to the guy whereas pronger or beauchemin can't

my only gripe is the lack of updated gear but this is still the demo i guess. gameplay is top notch
