50 goal scorers

Recommended Posts

Since the lockout there have been six 50 goal scorers. Jagr, Cheechoo, Heatley, Kovalchuk, Ovechkin and Lecavalier. With all the snipers and sharpshooters in the league there are sure to be some 50 goal scores this year too. Who do you think are the guys that can achieve this mark in the upcoming season?

Kovalchuk had a disappointing year last year(for him), so I'm going to say him. Ovechkin kind of a no brainer to me, Heatley could easily do it again playing with Alfreddson and Spezza. Possibly Malkin, with a year of experience under his belt now and playing with Crosby on the power play. Vanek has the opportunity now with increased ice time coming.

Selanne? Plays on a power house if he comes back.

Never rule out Iginla....

It's hard to tell, a lot of things have to go right to pop fifty. Like avoiding injuries, playing on a stronger team, ice time, a weaker schedule.

I think Jagr has a legitimate shot at it again this year, he managed to hit 30 this past season after the shoulder injury (which I know some people debate how much that really hindered him) setting his NHL record of 15 consecutive 30+ goal seasons; hopefully he can gel with Gomez or Drury in the middle. He surprised a lot of people when he racked up his 05-06 numbers and can do it again if you ask me.

Ovechkin now that he's playing with Nylander could hit 70.

I'll agree with Vanek, Heatley and Vinny again and throw in Malkin as well.

Zetterberg would of scored around 45 last year if he wasn't injured. I think he is capable of scoring 50. Cheechoo can easily score 50 with Big Joe.

I think there will be someone TOTALLY unexpected do 50 this year.

Jason Blake did 40 last year...now,I'm not saying he'll do 50...but it will be an off the board name like that. At the end of the year it'll be, like:

Ovy

Vinny

Iggy

(???)

Heatley

Gagne has a serious shot at 50 this year. Even with the hodge podge of centers he played with post-Foppa, Gags still showed a knack for scoring.

I also think he is underrated league wide.

I'd say Ovechkin, Vanek, Malkin, Heatly, and Lecalvalier will score 50. Someone mentioned Cheechoo earlier. I think he can score 35-40 goals per season, but even with Thornton, I don't think Ceech can replicate that 50 goal season. I also agree with Mack. If Crosby shoots more, he could have a shot.

If he stays healthy, he has a great shot... He's had a nasty habit of getting injured. With Briere in mind to center him, I think he has excellent potential to score 50. He had 40 last year, with a TERRIBLE team, and bad centers.

Please...you all are forgetting Jon Sim, he might break the record of 50 in 39.

Heatley and Ovechkin are locks in my opinion. Other than that I dont know, I actually like the sound of Gagne making 50, I think he has a shot at it. Other than those guys, Crosby if he shoots more, Vinny L. maybe, but I dont know.

Gaborik had the highest goals per game of anyone in the league except Lecavalier, and that was close. He really took off when he got back. If he and Demitra are healthy all year he could go for the title, but that's a HUGE if considering the kid can't keep his groin strong.

Gabby has missed more than 10 games in 4 of his six NHL seasons and missed 17 or more the last three seasons. That does not bode well.

I wouldn't be so sure on Hejduk. Vanek will hit 50 in the next few years, not sure if this year will be HIS year. Ovechkin, Lecavalier and Heatley are obvious front runners. But people who have said Gabby, are definetly right if both he and Demitra can stay in the line up. When those two are together they tear up the Canucks night in and night out (not saying that'll give'm 50 but that's all I usually see him play so thats what i'm going by). I'm also very doubtful on Gagne, he's just got nobody to work with.

Edit: Clarity

Couple things to remember about Vanek; Buffalo lost their two best setup men in free agency, He was already getting 15 minutes of ice time a night so he can't get that much more, every team will be putting their top defensive pair against him every night this season.

They added enough guys in the off season to take alot of the load off of him. Daniel briere, Kimmo Timmonen, Hartnell......Theres going to be some open ice for him for sure.

I think Crosby will hit 50 this year, he just has to fire the puck on net more often insted of passing. Heatley, Jagr, Ovy and Gagne could all hit 50 as well.

Crosby is CAPABLE of 50...but I think 40G/100+A is more the type of season he'll have.

If Rick Nash had a top tier center to work with I would definitely add him to the mix. That poor kid has to do everything himself to score a goal. I see heatley doing it for sure (contract year). With all of the moves NYR made I think that Jagr will score considering that they have loads of offensive talent. Ovechkin could do it of course, probably the most pure goal scorer in the league. Crosby's game is more of an assist man, i agree with the 40 G 100+ A statement earlier. Malkin is a candidate as well (power play with Crosby, disgusting!).
