Canada v Russia Superseries

That was absolutely ridiculous! What a move. If the conversation that TSN described really happened.

1. Good for David, as a young player to go to a coach like Sutter and ask for the chance to be the best player.

2. Good for Sutter to look past a subpar Game 1, adn give him that chance.

He was great today.

I agree its could too see Sutter giving him another chance, and i hope he keeps giving him more ice time. Also is there any videos of Sutter's two big hits ?

They are in the highlight package that Sportsnet is showing, and I'm sure they will be on anything TSN has. If you miss SC/Connected...try the webcasts from each station.

Congrats, David

Cherepanov sustained a concussion from one of the two dirty hits he took during the last game...

Ugh, doesn't surprise me/is a huge bummer; I hope it doesn't take him out of the series for too long. I think he's shown some moments of great play, but like Darkstar mentioned in another thread, he's being hunted every time he's out there.

Sutter's elbow went right into Alexei's head on that hit, it almost looked like a pro wrestling move...

Well now chances are Chere is done for the series. Isn't flying in an airplane a no-no for somebody with a concussion? What is the point of flying from Russia to Canada with a concussion for a glorified exhibition series? He might as well stay in Russia and rest.

Lets turn this hit around and think about the North American response/reaction if a Russian blueliner left his feet to deck Tavares, Turris, or Perron. Hey, Pierre Maguire, is that hit full of jam or junk?

Bottom line, it was a cheapshot. Message sent, mission accomplished.

I just watched the entire play over again. On the Russian breakout, Chere swings around the right side to pick up a pass inside his zone. seconds before he leaves his leg out to drag and trips Sutter from behind. It happens very quickly but this is what pissed off Sutter to chase Chere down to the other end to deliver the blow. Interesting, its on Youtube.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of those guys gets blasted soon.

Nice catch, DS. I think it's deserving of the run Sutter took at him.

It's obvious Cherepenov stuck his foot out to trip up Sutter and therein, Sutters retaliation was justified and I'm sure it sent a message -- it's just a bummer that Chere sustained a concussion because of it and beyond that, the next couple of games are going to be full of fire and may result in some more unnecessary injuries.

I wouldn't necessarily say he was deserving of a hit like that, you have to remember he was getting hammered in the first game as well. Sure it was a cheeky thing to drag his foot to trip Sutter up, but it wasn't like he just decided to do it out of the blue.

Well, Cherepanov is out for the Series

http://tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_story/?...69&hubname=

Good news. I will quote a friend of mine from another MB for the reasoning:

Credit: Eastcoastsportsfans.com, poster: Savoir-Self

In a way... I'm actually happy that Cherry got concussed. Now don't get me wrong... I'm not happy because of the actual concussion itself (hopefully its minor, of course), but instead thrilled because he may now actually miss the rest of this miserable hockey series.

Face it... playing on a terribly outmatched team with an idiot coach... not to mention having to play home games on that piece of shit they call an "ice surface" in Omsk... isn't exactly rewarding in any way shape or form. In fact... if there's ANYTHING of worth to take out of the disaster that's been the super series experience thus far... for ANY russian player... it's that uninstalled air conditioners saved them from being completely routed in both of the first two games.

I mean... half of the russian squad doesn't seem to give a flying f*ck in regards to effort, and the other half doesn't know what more they could possibly do to contribute. There isn't the slightest bit of chemistry there, less so any inkling of direction or actual coaching present behind their bench... and the difference in both talent and heart? Well, so vast that it's actually laughable...

This concussion, as stupid as this may sound, came right in the nick of time... as it may not only save Cherepanov from being susceptible to bad habits, further injury and overall piss poor playing conditions for the next 10 day period, but it may also save our top forward prospect from one other potentially major problem...

... and that of course would be... well, what else did you expect? Us.

I'm talking about Ranger fans, not all... but those who have shown that they simply don't know any better. Hockey starved ranger fans mind you, much like us... that decided to tune into this series with hopes of not only enjoying some slight entertainment value... but also that of possibly adding thoughts to their personal scouting reports...

... the same Ranger fans that despite having seen the circumstances that our prospects have been faced with... still see fit to add Cherry's "performances" from the last two games to their youtube highlight video-driven opinions of his game and future "potential"...

Yes fellas, believe it or not... that aspect of this tournament has already begun. You'd be amazed at all the senseless criticism thus far, and furthermore repulsed by how common comments such as "cherepanov is overrated" are getting to be with each passing shift...

... and you know what? That pisses me off. That pisses me off profoundly... and probably more than it should, but I can't help it because the sheer stupidity of some is just astounding.

I mean... we all had lofty expectations for this kid going into the series, and perhaps now by looking back we can all say that they were a bit too lofty... but for some ranger fans to have turned on this kid already... ALREADY? Well, that's just ridiculous.

Seriously, between unreasonable expectations and all of the aforementioned factors that Cherry also can't control... (such as being completely misused by his head coach. Playing point on the powerplay... seriously?!?!)... this tournament experience is just way more than he (and just about any 17 year old phenom) can handle at this stage in his development, and something that IMO... he doesn't need at all.

I'd much rather he be in training camp for his RSL Omsk squad... getting ready for his team's season opener which actually happens to be less than a few days away...

Sigh. As always, blame canada.

/end rant

I look at this series as a glorified exhibition that was a bad idea and means nothing. Nothing like the famous series conducted in the 70's to 80's, which actually had significance and pride on both sides

Canada is out to destroy.

Russia has been so outmatched from the getgo, this series doesn't even make sense anymore

The way Sutter has them going 8-0 is not out of the question.

Seems likely. The teams are so uneven in terms of coaching, chemistry, and determination, it is not even fun to watch. Just a Rah rah exhibition series. Super series? Haha, yeah. Nothing super about it when the teams don't even belong on the same ice.
