5minutesforfighting 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Just finished my second practice with my new Synergy Si-core.After every slapshot I took today, I got a pain in my right hand. (I'm a righty). Is this caused by vibration? If so, how can I stop this? Thanks for any help,Elliot
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Darkstar had a similar issue but I believe it was elbow pain and he solved it with a less stiff stick. It also might be you're hitting too much ice.The question you should ask is what is different between when you didnt feel the pain and now that you do. Flex? Lie? Length of stick? or just stick? McDougalfaschnitzer 32 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 Gotta toughen up those hands! When I'm working with goalies my hands get a little tender from shooting a lot, but I've never experienced shot by shot pain.
5minutesforfighting 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 I felt the pain the first time around too, but I had only taken 2 slapshots, so it didn't really bother me. But we did a shooting drill today and by the 5th and 6th slapshot my hand was numb and sore.I don't think it'd be from hitting too much ice, as I feel the pain right when I contact the puck. I'm using a 100 flex, but with a 6 or 7 inch plug on it, it feels way softer. I don't think the length would be an issue, I've used sticks this same length without a sore hand. Without skates on, it comes up to just a tiny bit past the tip of my nose. Lol, JR, I didn't really pay attention to Easton's claim that this would dampen vibration, but I do have to admit that this stick has way better feel than a Vapor 20 I used to use. BK 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2007 I think 100 flex is just too stiff for a lot of people. I am a big guy 275lbs 5'11 and I use whip/regular flexes. When I had my 100 flex sicore and ultralite I had a very hard time loading shots up even putting a lot of my body weight into it. I got a good deal on a tps redlite xn10 whip and I was surprised at how much my shot improved. Since then, I have changed to a bauer 87 flex. I took a few shots with a team mates new 100 flex SL and had the same pain that you did. Its just too stiff.
ramensandwich 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 i agree that 100 flex is too stiff for most people. if you watch NHL'ers, they get extreme flex on their sticks, which everyone should strive for. sure, a harder flex means a harder shot, but only if you can flex it effectively. i am 5'8 140 pounds.i have used 100, 110, and 120 flex pro-return sticks, mainly because they were affordable at the time, all of these harder flexes led to pain in my elbows during all shots, and really bad pain in my wrists after slapshots. i could feel lots of vibration in the shaft after several repeated slapshots. even 85 flex was hard on my elbows and wrists to flex.there's a lot to be said for soft flexes. ideally i prefer a 65 flex because i can load it with my body weight without having to kill my arms. Tyler B 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 i use 100 flex st's and never had a problem loading the stick at 135 pounds. That being said i found the sicores which ive used before at 100 flex have been alot stiffer than the newer synergys.
ramensandwich 1 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 i use 100 flex st's and never had a problem loading the stick at 135 poundsi'd be willing to bet you're not getting optimum benefit out of that. i don't take many slapshots but i flex that thing near 3 inches on snappers and wristers, which are bullets. Tyler B 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 ive never had a problem with it. ive tried lower flexed sticks and couldnt stand them and allways go back to 100.
shifter 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 The only pain i get is from playing a Wii over 3 hours:)
5minutesforfighting 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I can assure you, this stick isn't too stiff for me.I'm 6'6" so I have a long butt end in it, it feels around a 85-90. On slapshots, this is the first stick I've had where I actually feel the stick flex a fair bit, but still have an awesome shot.I'm going to split the tape in half next time, and tape my stick like that. Just to make the puck feel softer, and see how that goes.
cause4alarm 7 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 Did you take any time off from playing?Maybe try loosening up and remain loose until you make contact with the puck. Or maybe start off with a few light warmup slapshots against the boards or within close range of the net. Sometimes I have to remind myself to just take it easy and that my objective is not to try to kill the puck.
5minutesforfighting 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 Actually, I did take some time off from playing. This is my fifth or sixth practice this season. My first time on ice this season was October 6th, and before that was mid-March before I got a concussion. So I did have a fair bit of time off.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 that might be it. I took some time off and my shoulder was kiling me for some reason after every game. After a month or so the pain went away and it hasn't been back.

cause4alarm 7 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I sometimes get pain b/w my radius and ulna in my bottom arm. I think it's because I haven't played in a while, I haven't warmed up, and I've lost the 'feel' for taking slapshots and my grip isn't firm enough when I'm contacting the puck. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 This pain was really weird, I haven't felt that kind of soreness since I dislocated my shoulder practicing a jujitsu move. It was around the joint, very weird. Luckily it's gone, because it was very annoying and painful.

TBLfan 25 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 No, I was doing an example of a basic punch defense and showing how multiple moves could be applied depending on what you wanted to do(including throws)... Well he tried the blow to the elbow I warned him about(very easily can dislocate a shoulder) and it... dislocated my shoulder, couldn't see that coming. I popped it back in but it was sore for weeks. It really wasn't a jujistu move soo much as a basic defense but much of what we were talking about was jujitsu/judo. Jarick 5 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I had this with sticks too stiff and also when trying to do to much work with the small muscles (forearms, wrists, etc). With good form and/or lighter sticks it went away.
BMcDonald19 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 i got pain like that in the first one piece i ever had. i was small and it was 100 flex, i think alot has to do with having a stick that is too stiff.. and plus i tend to hit alot of ice when i shoot
BK 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 B)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tyler B @ Oct 28 2007, 09:16 PM) ←</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->i use 100 flex st's and never had a problem loading the stick at 135 pounds. Either you have to be absolutely ripped, lieing about your weight, or not getting the most out of your shot. 100flex takes 100lbs forcing downward at the center of the stick to make it flex 1 inch. On average, I think its safe to say that a good shot should have about 2" of flex in the shaft for it to be successfully "loaded". This would mean you would have to generate 200lbs of power out of your arms using your body weight and strength in order to use your sticks 100flex potential. This is of course you have basic technique behind it and don't just push the puck with your stick, calling it a "shot".Now even if you can flex it 2", that is at least 200lbs of force hitting your joints, bones and ligaments in your hands, elbows and shoulders. You have sore hands and the vibrations from the stick hurt you, but you wont listen to us when you post up a question about why this is happening. Listen to people who have walked in your shoes.. or just keep jacking up your hands to the point where you ruin your joints or cause a stress fracture. It's your call. Tyler B 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 first off i never asked the question. i get enough flex out of the stick that its noticable, and seriously you shouldnt put people down for what works for them. Just because "technicaly" it shouldnt work doesnt meant it cant. Ive tried whipier flexes before and ive settled on what i feel works best for me. and btw i have no hand problems.
