Can someone recommend a pattern similar to Sakic

Recommended Posts

Basically can anyone suggest a pattern similar to the Sakic, that is also really good for backhands, and your able to get the puck up real high in tight on backhands?

wouldn't a curve similar to a sakic act the same way as a sakic, therefore your backhand and forehand would be the same?

I concurr...I can do it with a Sakic..the NBH P92 was pretty hard to do it on though, but the sakic isn't that bad. Just have to use more heel, and roll your wrist over a little more

ibid...however maybe its time to just look for a new pattern...i cant' stickhandle with a drury-ish curve as i lose it on the backhand..so i went to the p92/sakic...no issues on the backhand except when i eff it up...

They are the same curve, this makes no sense.

you might need more of a toe curve. my backhands were pretty good with the hull pro because it was straight on the last 1/3 of the blade towards the heel. otherwise try shooting more with the heel on your backhands.

Alright, first off love the replies, cough tbl. I'll try farther back on the heel, like you suggest jackal, thanks.

he's not kidding

i had trouble doing backhands with the naslund/sakic but worked on nothing but backhands and now i have no problem with them

just a matter of finding that spot where you can really launch it

the Havlat pattern Sherwood used to put out (don't know of any current equivalent) was basically a Sakic with less curve. Good luck finding one.

The Nash from TPS might be worth a look. Pretty similar curve, but the Nash doesn't hook quite as much at the toe, giving you a more flat surface. I couldn't do without the extra toe for wristers, but the backhand was nice.

I only used the Nash for about 10 minutes before I ditched and sold the stick, and have since moved to a flat curve that I can roof backhanders at will with.

My backhand was always decent until I stopped playing for almost a year and completely lost it. Switched from a Sakic to an Iginla and actually learned how to shoot a backhand with that. I'm back to the Sakic again now and can shoot my backhand better than ever.

It's all about finding the right spot to shoot the puck from. I actually have a better backhand with the Sakic now than I ever did because I was finally able to get my technique down.

i use a forsberg, but i am able to roof backhands with the coffey, which proves it is all in your technique.

try this:

(i'm righty, so reverse if you're a lefty)

-puck on the heel

-bring the puck way behind your leg (left leg in my case)

-with the puck on your backhand, roll the blade down as if you were cupping it on the forehand, which will open up the blade on the backhand.

-as you bring it across the centerline of your body, snap your wrists backwards towards the net, which will give you good loft on the puck.

*you might have to hold your hands a bit closer together than on a forehand shot*

You mine as well get used to the backhand on the Sakic. If you switch curves to accomodate your backhand then you have to get used to the new curve in other aspects...

uggghhh. Make sure the puck is on the heel of the stick. Lower your bottom hand and make sure to roll your wrists. Lowering the bottom hand gives you better leverage for the backhand, it makes it a lot easier. After you get the motion down you'll soon be able to roof it with your hand in the normal position.

if you really wanted to i guess you could also go the nbh iD route and get the Niedermayer pattern.. basically it's a milder naslund so it's easier for backhands

Ive been using a Sakic for the past few years and I can roof the puck of the backhand no problem. Maybe you should work on your skills and stop blaming your tools
