Something to Rival Nash

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately because Kobasew isn't exactly a big name in the NHL, this hasn't hit youtube yet but seriously check it out through the highlights on nhl.com for the B's vs Rags game today...was a beautiful goal from his knees after being hauled down, from a decent distance too.

I don't even rank it even close to the same category. Shooting from your knees is not that hard, he was in the clear. It is rare, and not normal, and perceived to be difficult which generates a lot more hoopla than the move deserves.

I have to agree, shooting from your knees looks cool but it's not hard. The moves Nash did was very hard, the concentration needed was extremely impressive.

I think the Nash goal blows the Ovechkin goal away, but if you guys remembered I wasn't really impressed with that goal to begin with.

Ovechkin's was more luck based...not to take anything away from the guy because he is rather gifted...

Back on track...I really don't see myself as a homer, but Kobasew's goal was quite impressive IMO, Nash's was still better, but it will be second in plays of the week only to Nash's goal on the top 5 thing on NHL net.

It was a pretty nice goal, but it didn't come close to Nash's goal, shooting from your knees is alot easier then embarrassing two defencemen then deeking out a goalie.

A better choice than this one would be Mitchell's (SJ) shorthanded goal a couple of weeks ago. Busts by the D, hooked to his knees, gets back up and dekes for a sweet goal.

Oddly enough, I was debating the Nash goal with my roommate while watching the B's, and Kobasew scored the goal mid-sentence. I personally thought the Nash goal wasn't as impressive as the Ovy goal, mainly since it looked like a defensive breakdown instead of an amazing display of skill (or a one-in-a-million shot), but it's still a very pretty goal.

I dont think shooting from the knees is the same skill level as the stick handling Nash did. Shooting from your knees is one move, while Nash did like 5...

Well some of us are used to being on our knees B) , and some aren't...I'm a person that isn't used to it so I thought it was rather impressive

The skill of the Nash play >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the luck of the Ovechkin play.

The nice dangles aside, Nash was actually rather lucky that the goalies poke got caught up in his legs and bouced back onto his skate/stick. Nice goal defintily but better than Ovie´s? Naaah! This Kobasew one...hmn...nice but different planet.

There was a fair amount of both skill and luck in both plays. To me, NHLers are supposed to be able to dangle, but how many of them can make plays while on their back? Ovy, Yzerman, Crosby(though it pains me to say it). I think true skill shines when players are in unfamilliar positions and are still able to make amazing plays.

It took skill for Ovy to get past the defenders he did, but it was luck that the goalie was nowhere to be found and that no one was around to slap his "shot" away.

I guess I can agree to that.

I've seen alot of people do dangles ala the ones in the Nash goal, though Nash goal is still truely amazing... But I've never seen anything remotely close to Ovey's goal, lucky shot? sure, but also one of a kind? yep. enough said.

I don't see how anyone who has ever played ice hockey before can actually think that Nash's goal was more impressive than Ovechkin's. Period.

I think of it as luck =/= skill. Is Ovechkin more skilled of a player? Sure. Was it more skilled of a play? Nah.
