How long is your working week?

Recommended Posts

I was reading in the "The Things Customers Do" tread and that got me thinking of what is a normal working week in the US and Canada? Here in Denmark its 37 hours a week and i think its 40 in Sweden.

The U.S. standard is 40 hours per week.

Most people work more.

Different States have different laws...

In California, you're on (time and a half) overtime after 8 hours in a single day

In Michigan, you're on overtime after 40 hours into a week.

Nationally, however, if you are salary (management) you get absolutetly no compensation for overtime.

As salary, you work for the job... not the hours.

I Hope it helps.

PM me if you need any more info.

40 per week, salary. but I have a position 2 that allows me to get paid if required to work clinically (pt care or hyperbarics). I also get call time(25% of lowest base rate) and if called in 2hrs time and a half for the first incidence. If I get called in more than once in 8 hrs I get an automatic 8hrs time and a half. Good for the $ but bad for the home life.

Work week, what's that? ;LOL; I guess the posts are accurate, but I haven't worked for someone else in 10 years, and havn't worked other wise in over 5 years.

Early retirement is the way to get more time for hockey.

I work 2 jobs that add up to about 45-50 hours per week. Whatever pays the bills right? It's not that bad. Don't plan on doing this for much longer though. I'm still young so it's all good.

I work 37.5 hours a week (8.30 am to 5 pm, 1 hr lunch) over here.

Back at home I worked 9-5 (done all the pre-press for local printer) and then usually 6pm - 2am 4 nights a week in the bar.

I moved here in 2000, and it was the first time in 10 years that I wasn't either full time at school with a part time job, or full time work with a part time job (we was poor back home).

So I'm loving my hours here

In season its around 60 hrs a week, in the off-season I'm down to 40 but usually pick up something part-time to make up for the overtime I'm no longer earning. I can't remember the last time I worked just 40 hrs in a week...

I'm in law school (which is basically my job, besides hockey lol). I end up spending about 45-50 hours during an average week, which accounts for class time and work at home or in the library. Some people routinely spend 80 hours a week but that's too much for me to do without going insane. During finals or during busy weeks such as those with legal writing assignments, it's more like 70-75.

50-70 hrs per week on a good week. Bad week can be 80, but I'd be doing weekends, too.

I was salary and taking it up the butt with all of the pro bono OT I was doing while everyone else was making bank. After nearly walking out, I was finally able to get an hourly rate.

I work about 43-45 hours. I work Sunday, opening the shop at 7 AM working to 4 PM. Monday and Thursday I work 10 AM - 6 PM and Tuesday/Wednesday 12 noon to 9 PM. I eat at my desk and never leave the building or take a "lunch hour." In July and August the rink is open Monday to Friday so I get two months of no Sundays! On September 1, I know its time for the long haul to start through June. My days off are Friday/Saturday. I don't remember the last time I took a dedicated vacation. It is usually a day off here and there for an event.

I work 50-60 during beach season and 40-45 when its not season at a hotel. I have an interview for a second job on Friday so hopefully I'll be adding 10-20 hours a week doing that.

I work either 48hrs. or 72hrs. depending on the week....

I work a 24on/48off schedule and get 4 days off every third week.

How do you like that schedule?

I'm on a 4/6 schedule. Four 24-hour shifts with a day off in-between and four days off, then four 24-hour shifts with a day off in-between and six days off. It still adds up to a 56 hour week and ten shifts a month. The fourth shift can be brutal, sometimes, but getting a six day makes it worth it.

I do a straight 72 if I'm lucky, otherwise it gets broken up into 48 and a 24 or 2x12s.
