70s Skates-Bauer, Daoust, and Lange

I'm pretty sure my old mite coach still rocks those Bauer's. I wonder what they feel like on your feel there must be nothing to them. They would be like wearing Chuck Taylor Converse in the NBA.

i had a guy come into the shop a couple of months ago with those bauers to get them sharpened. being a 90's kid, and really never seeing skates like that, i was in awe while sharpening :o

Looking at the Bauer's I now remember those top eyelets on the old skates-we had those tiny laces that always got lost. Thanks for posting that.

the funny thing is 25 years from now, our kids will be talking about the One95's and U+ and saying, "Are you kidding me? your Dad wore those tanks?...." and the kid freind would respond, "yea and he tought he was such a bad*** with One95's on too" LOL

Actually a guy on my adult leauge team rocks a pair like those bauers every game. He's my friend's dad, and has tried using new skates and can't get used to them. He gets them sharpened twice a year and they stay sharp. It's ridiculous. Imagine walking into the LHS with those things.

He always says he's going to retire when his pair breaks.

or the Nike Air Force 1.. Rasheed Wallace still does.

i wonder what the Daousts would feel like with new holders.

Gretz wore Daousts with Perfecta holders.. i wonder what they'd feel like with LS2 holders. but then again, the boot would be extremely heavy.

actually.. the California Seals wore those.

and also wore these.. *gear whore status* back in the 70s. (those look to be green laces..)

Had a guy show up one night to play pick up with my group wearing some tacks about as old as those Bauer's.

More like a bucket of hot water...

Soak your socks in water, put on your skates, and skate around in them a few times to break them in... :D

The experts at the time used to say that, if you went feet-first into the boards, tube holders would bend and save your ankles, but the rigid plastic holders would break your ankles.

Recently for shibits and giggles, I called two adult rec games wearing these:

I wore these while working two games for the TechRec Hockey League near Seattle, WA. It isn't a terribly fast league, with various skill levels playing. Needless to say, they were quite the conversation piece.

The skates are Bauer Nylon Supreme 92s. Yes, "Nylon" is part of the name on the tendon guards, perhaps these were built when skates were switching over from all-leather? I've had reinforcing stiching added to the boots, blades given the 5/8" hollow I use on my 8090s, and I inserted my Superfeet. They actually performed somewhat decent. The all-steel blades definitely make a different sound on the ice compared to modern blades, there's more of a metallic sound as opposed to the "crunching" sound TUUKs and other current blades make.
