Most protective pants.

Recommended Posts

Please share your opinions on the most protective pants for hip, tailbone and thigh protection. Condition: over 6'2" - 220lbs. Hit boards, ice, sometimes other people. Currently wear CCM 852s. Not enough tailbone or hip protection.

Weight is almost not an issue.

Many thanks.

Pro stock CCM/RBK 520's are what you are looking for.

The Tackla 9000's are decent, but my only complaint is the less than substantial tailbone padding.

I've got Bauer 6000s and they're pretty sweet. Not tanks by any stretch but substantial protection with fairly low weight. Great tailbone protection too with a Nike Air tailbone protector.

Just got my Tackla 5000x pro stocks in the mail today...holy ass padding batman! I wear 9000 now, and while they are 6 years old, I dont remember then having this much padding in the ass. Try and get a pair.

I sport Tacklas...

Don't fall on that spot between your hip and your backside  .

Other than THAT...

great pant.

Tackla Air 9000 (just so everyone knows).

I had Tackla Pro 5000's when I played in high school and travel teams and they were indestructible. Extremely protective in the hips but lacked a littel bit in the tailbone area. Currently using Bauer Supreme 70 for beer league and they are working out great. Not as beefy as the Tackla's but much lighter.

I have Mission Fuel 110 pants and as happy as one can be! Very comfortable and have a good protection! Had a few bad falls on my back and cant even remember if i had any pain..

If u get some more money then i had, then buy fuel 120 line, they have even better quality/protection and a fancy atl liner

I love my Tackla 9000s and I've never known anyone that has had tailbone problems with either them or the 5000. I honestly can't remember the last time I actually used the tailbone protection on mine.

I got a pair of the Sande pro-stocks and since he has them on clearance now? I'd highly recommend them. Protective almost to the point of being ridiculous (of course, I can say that as I am fat and old in a non-check beer league so anything beyond 1cm of foam rubber is likely more than I need).

Text me if interested and I could probably email you some pix if you feel like checking them out. Think they're going for $40-50 plus shipping (have to pay import tax on top if in the US though).

I found that to be true as well, so I got a pair of these

Franklin Pro Stock from Hockey World can't beat them at only $80.00

I too was in the same boat as you. I'm 6'4" and was sporting one90s. I liked them and found them to be very protective if the fit properly. On me, they were too short and it caused me too wear them lower to cover my legs, but then this put hip pads too low. I need something longer, so all the pads were in the right places. I ordered some RBK 9Ks after hearing how protective they were, but they were too heavy and I hated how the girdle felt. Next, I tried to order a pair of Tackla 5000 pros in a long cut, but I was told they don't make them in the longer version. After all that, I settled on the tacklas 9000 in a long. I'm very happy with them so far. They don't have much tail bone protection, but I've learned that it is rare for me to fall directly on my tail bone. Good luck on your search.

Go with the RBK 6k or better for great protection although as already stated the top of the line pants are a bit on the heavy side. The Easton S-5 or S-9's are also very protective. The Mission 110 also very good and have great air circulation. The Jofa 5000 is a great pant but are getting hard to find. The Nike/Bauer One/90 deserves honourable mention as well but don't buy the Supreme 70 because the padding is substantially less dense in many key areas. Tackla 9000 or 5000 are very good pants but the European pant tends to carry much less density than a North American made pant, however the flexability and durability of them is unbelievable. Graf 700's have the same fit as Tacklas and the Jofa 5000 and could also be another option.

some on here recommended me the one 90's. it really is the best of both worlds in terms of protection and mobility. it took me like 5 skates to break them in, but after that it was heaven

Tackla makes a great pant, as mentioned.

Conversely, when I was in peewees, I recall using a pair of pants that had "ROYAL" printed on the front. My lord these were the absolute worst protecting pants ever. They were the Sherwood 5030 shoulder pad equivalent of hockey pants. I remember I could fold them up to a small rectangle, that's how scarce the padding was.
