The movie thread

Recommended Posts

Had to go watch harry potter with my sister, worst one in my eyes out of the 6 they have made so far.

If you're using them as illustrations of the book, it was about the best.

If you're trying to follow them as movies, 3 and 4 were the best. They're also the two that left so much stuff out that it would be impossible to follow the rest of the series. My friends and myself, who were the original wave of readers (seriously- I have first american editions of one and two that my friend got me for my birthday packaged together at costco.) try and pretend those movies don't exist.

I didn't realize my hard cover set of the books were a collector's item now :P But I agree with you about the movie, one of the best for the attentive reader and didn't rate so high for the average movie goer.

If they're in good condition and all first editions, they will be worth something before long. And really only one and two, the later ones had such huge runs that the first edition isn't anything special.

Mine have been read so many times that they not remotely qualify for good condition status. Pity.

We saw "G.I. Joe" Monday night.

It was really refreshing to know that they went for G.I. Joe authenticity and had the ten-year-olds that play with G.I. Joes write the script.

"And, then, he get shots, but he has his super sonic protective helmet!"

"And, then, his boat blows up, but his shoe turns into a raft!"

"And, then, the earth blows up, but a secret organization of Joes flies in from the moon and glues it back together!"

I'm still hopin' to see it soon...I spent enough time playing Joe's as a kid...that I feel obligated...even if it sucks.

I saw Bruno a few weeks ago. Cringed through the whole thing, what a turkey of a film! I was a big fan of Borat, but this new movie sucked.

+1 on the The Hangover. It was definitely a good watch.

Not in theaters anymore, but anyone watch I Love You Man when it came out on DVD?

I still can't really decide how I feel about it. It was funny in how it hit some of stuff about guy friends that movies don't usually touch on...but it wasn't anything hilarious.

Bruno was touch and go.

Bruno was straight up crap.

What did you expect?

Same with GI Joe. If you go into that movie expecting anything but utter garbage...

The problem is some review I read -- maybe Entertainment Weekly -- gave it a good review, as long as one accepted the cartoonish nature. I kind of figured they were referring to things like the accelerating boots they showed in the previews. I think a lot of us can suspend disbelief for something like that, but it's hard to ignore a terrible script.

Inglourious Basterds deffinatelt DID NOT suck.

I think I just made an executive decision to go see that with the girl tonight instead of District 9... I've been hearing a lot of good things today about Inglourious Basterds.

A lot of my friends saw it said it was in their top 10 movies of all time.

As an aside...One of the guys at work (a fairly 'old school' radio guy) was concerned that he'd have to say 'Basta(e)rd' on the radio to talk about this movie...in this day and age....expecially on a station where the average listener is 45-50+...(Oldies) probably not an issue!

My mom asked me what movie I was going to see and I said Inglorious Basterds she told me to stop using such foul language

In my opinion, it's probably Tarantino's best work to date.

I left the theater last night thinking he's done better. I didn't feel it had any depth or that classic Tarantino "OMG WHAT'S GOING ON!? HE SO CRAZY!" vibe. It felt very cliche and predictable, almost like he was on autopilot or something. Brad Pitt was phenomenal though, loved his character.

Much better than his work since Kill Bill, but I'd still rate Kill Bill well above Basterds.

I didn't think Kill Bill was as good as most people seemed to think it was. Brad Pitt's character was the probably biggest reason the film worked. There are much better movies but in my opinion this was his best... I wouldn't exactly call myself a Tarantino fan, per se.

Saw GI Joe last night, just freaking wow. I never expected to leave the theater thinking "that was a masterpeice of film" by any means, but really, what the hell was the point in even having a script? They could have just strung CGI special effects scenes together, not bothered with a "story line" and pretty much had the same thing. Maybe broken it up with a mud wrestling scene involving the Baroness. Oh well, I guess I should be thankful no one screamed "cobra-la-la-la-la-la-la-la" for ten minutes.
