Winter Classic 2

Recommended Posts

i think the nhl needs to look at how they give out the outdoor classic. the stanley cup champs should be the hosts fo the game. in hte instense of the wings. not only are they going on the road but they will not have their traditional new years eve game this year. it the game was played in det at say comerica park, the big house(u-m), sparten stadium they could have still done both. but none the less i'm looking forward to 2010 when det host the frozen four at ford feild.

What if a team that is in the south wins, then how would they host and outdoor game?

According to the NY Daily News, the game will be announced on Monday when the NHL schedule comes out.

Also, they will do a Winter game in 2010 at the NEW Yankee Stadium - Rangers/Bruins. Reasons why they couldn't do it at the old one were that the pipes aren't winterized, there's no point of entry to bring in the generators/compressors to run the ice, and since they will be transitioning things over to the new Stadium (Memorial Park, etc) it would've delayed and brought up the costs of the new Stadium.

Do you know why it has to be Yankee Stadium. I understand the awsomeness of doing it the last year it's there, but if it lost all of it's lore at the new Yankee Stadium why not do it at Shea (a 5 min drive, 45 min walk away from me) or at Giants stadium. I don't understand why it has to be linked to the Yankees. If shea can have the beatles, it can sure host a hockey game. (clearly I'm a mets fan)

But Rangers-Bruins would be awsome anywhere. Can't wait. I do wonder though where they would put me? As a Ranger season ticket holder, I'd be curious to how my seats would translate to a stadium. I hope I don't have to pay extra for this game, I hardly afford my seats as it is.

Shea's going to be demolished after this season anyway, so that doesn't work. Giants Stadium would have to involve the Devils.

That's okay, you could have the Beatles. We have God on our side - Pope 3 times. :)

LOL, the pope may have god on his side and a really awsome pope mobile, but popes come and go, the Beatles are forever.

Plus I know Shea will be demolished, but doing it at shea this season before it will be demolished could have been an option. I'm pretty sure, the Wilpons wouldn't allow a hockey game at Citi Field anyway. (This is the first time I have ever typed or wrote Citi Field on anything, Kinda weird for me)

Well, they managed to play a pre-season game outside at Cesars in Vegas in the 90s. And I'm pretty sure Vegas in September is probably quite a bit warmer than, say, Anaheim in December. That being said, the outdoor games should definitely be held in a cold-weather city.

Shea lacks character and is a dump. Yeah, I said it. Hell, back in the 90s I got a drink there and there was a roach in the cup.

Picture of how the rink will be postioned for the game.... I feel sorry for anyone sitting behind home plate.

Yeah, the only problem is that the rink will be elevated...might be hard for the front row to see action.

They should use clear lexan boards.

That's what I was thinking also... The front row seats are almost at ground level and the rink will definitely be elevated leaving the people in those seats looking up at the action. If they construct temporary seating on the field then the front row seats are completely useless. I still wonder why they chose a friggen baseball field to host a hockey game

It's the only other choice. Obviously Soldier Field would be ideal, but no way the Bears are gonna ok that for New Years. Toyota Park would be nice if it sat more than 20,000. U.S. Cellular Field is closer to the United Center, but Wrigley easily trumps it in popularity.

Why not put the one end of the rink towards home plate and have it pointing out towards center field so its a little more even on the sides? Only the people behind the way outfield walls would have no view..

Seems horrible all around to me.
