coryroth24 15 Report post Posted August 18, 2008 ...you are crazy enough to hold off on a couple of the days activities to save energy for your Beer League game and you get that phone call an hour before the game time just to tell you the Zamboni's busted and you're not playing? Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2008 Not too long ago the rink manager slept in on his "Siesta". Needless to say we had to call about 5-6 guys to get a ring in driver. One team missed out and our club managed to get on just in time for the league president to arrive and cut the ice.
Steve_v3 289 Report post Posted August 18, 2008 Getting pumped for a game and not have a goalie is the worst. Also only having 5 guys show up suck. Then your gassed after the first period.

gxc999 7 Report post Posted August 18, 2008 Yeah, my inline team had a few games with 5 skaters. That's no fun! And in one of those games, our leading scorer played goalie, obviously we lost.

coryroth24 15 Report post Posted August 18, 2008 Our rink makes us playOur rink would have too, but we were the 4th of 6 games after the Zamboni broke. They called everything off after the second game. I think it worked out for the better though, that 14 mile bike ride kicked my ass later that night... Monty22 833 Report post Posted August 18, 2008 You still get ice time to yourself then?Yes, but not everyone stays, and taking the 30-40 minute drive most guys have to get there most would rather stay at home.
DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted August 19, 2008 When you have been waiting and so looking forward to the next skate, the no goalie show is the worst. Skip the bs, let's go back to the locker room and break open the cooler.

Tailboard Jockey 25 Report post Posted August 19, 2008 I hate it when guys commit to being on your team for a state tournament, taking up a roster spot when other guys are trying to get on your team, and then not show up.
Sed27 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2008 When you have been waiting and so looking forward to the next skate, the no goalie show is the worst. Skip the bs, let's go back to the locker room and break open the cooler.Agreed. This happened to us last year at a Friday night 11:00pm game. Our team was almost fully dressed when we got word their goalie wasn't coming. We hadn't had an ice time for while, so a few of the guys ended up staying and having fun working drills and one timers. It actually turned out to be a pretty decent time and realistically by that time, any other plans are pretty much done.I'm not sure how other leagues work, but because the scheduling is tight, we don't always get a make up game. My thoughs are this - if you are paying for the ice time, why not use it?

start_today 770 Report post Posted August 24, 2008 That decision to stay for a late game that has been cancelled is terrible. Way worse than deciding which of your two children to save from a burning car. It's awesome to have rink time to practice and maybe throw a pick-up game together, but getting 4 hours of sleep before work is no good. I just don't understand teams that flat don't show up and don't bother to call the rink. Even with no goalie and not enough skaters, I always go. There's a decent chance that guys from the game before will jump on your team.
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2008 Just happend yesterday...Our coach was away as his overly large family was taking him to a birthday dinner. I told him not to tell people he was going to be away for the game but he did. Needless to say we were ONE bloody player short of the forfeit rule. Drives me insane especially considering that my best mate was one of the guys who didn't rock up. Oh well, I managed to score + knocked a guy out who EVERYONE hates. Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 Knocked him out with a solid back check, then body check into the boards. He's a shit talker that always big notes himself with stories that everyone knows is full of lies.
tyson_two 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2008 LOL..classic. i'm guessin he was on the other team. although it would have been funnier if he was on your own team.
Aussie Joe 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2008 He was on the other team. I don't actually have anything against him, its just that the exact same thing happend to me in the 1st period and no boarding/charging call was made. Seriously, I hope to god one day this league is cleaned up. Taking 12 steps then hitting a guy is serious BS.
