Honestly, I don't care if I see the X60 or not. It's just a skate and whether or not we see it now, it's still not coming out till April. However, the need for secrecy around it is bordering on ridiculous. It's a skate, not the Manhattan Project.

Couldn't agree more. Just the next Vapor, an evolution, not revolution

And yet you're talking about and will probably say things to other people and generate buzz. There is no such thing as bad publicity, and chatter of any kind will likely be good.

Think of it this way though; Snipeshow, PHEW, Icewarehouse and other boards all get advance photos. The word spreads about the new Vapor skate. Soon all the kids want the new skate that won't be out for 9+ months and retailers can't move the current skate line. It essentially shifts the shelf life of the product 6-12 months earlier than expected and 2-year product cycles are cut short due to hype and demand for the next line.

If anything, Bauer is trying to keep the X60 from interfering with current sales figures of the XXXX by downplaying NHL exposure and word of mouth as much as possible.

They used to do that by showing the product later in the year. Moving it up to the first month of the NHL season is what is causing these problems.

very well put, the bike and snowboard industry was the same...we'd get snowboard catalogues for 08 product in january 07, only difference was it was protected fairly well from the public. It does the same thing, even tho a board may only change minisculy, the existing one is old news and has to be brought down 40% to move it, even in it's product year, even tho its not much different from the new one coming out, just esthetics.

I fully agree with you. It makes total sense for Bauer not to release the X60 in its RETAIL PATTERN at the NHL level. The exposure would be widespread, and I can see how that would damage sales of the current (outgoing) model. However, they've released it made up to look like a XXXX. Everyone on MSH knows the X60 comes out in April. Everyone on here knows its being tested with the XXXX graphics package. Whether or not people see a photo of a XXXX that could be the X60...but looks like a XXXX...won't change whether they choose to buy new skates now or wait till April.

Again, I don't care if the picture comes out...because it just looks like a XXXX...I just don't understand the big deal.

Anyways, I don't want to be that guy that completely derails a good thread. That's the last I'll say on the issue.

When the 60's hit retail are they going to have the LS2's with the LS2.1 steel in them like the 95's?

I really wouldn't think so, that seems to be the Supreme line's niche, especially since anyone that wanted could easily use 2.1 steel in if desired.

He was, I noticed it last night during their game.

That being said...when will NHL players start seeing an end to their Mission supply of gloves, helmets, sticks, skates, etc?

2009-10, they obviously won't renew the licensing

So will production of pro gear continue through the year so players don't have to switch? i.e. Will a guy like Rafalski have enough skates to go through the playoffs?

I don't know the current inventory of those teams, but to answer your question, they won't continue to make that product for them. Once they're out, they're out.

That is a pretty big deal...there are quite a few players in the league that use Mission buckets and gloves (granted these are fairly easy to transition). I can only think of a handful of players that still use their skates and sticks
