So, it's playoff time. As a Braves fan, I am two things right now: 1) a free-agent fan (for the postseason, anyways) and 2) absolutely beside myself with glee after the Mets fucked September up ALL OVER AGAIN!

I think I'm going to be a Chicago Northsider for the next month or so (or however long they last).

Who are are the rest of you guys pullin' for/rooting against? What do you expect to see?

Ultimately, I guess this thread'll just end-up being a place to discuss the goings-on this Fall...it should be a good one.

I'm a Red Sox fan so I'm hoping we can pull the ALDS off against the Angels but if the team that comes out to play the Angels in the DS is the same team that played the Angels in the regular season, they're going to get rocked.

I'm just worried that the injuries are going to be too much. Beckett especially, the rotation is already thin and with him not 100% that just makes things even harder.

I'd eventually like to see a Red Sox/Cubbies World Series with the Sox coming out on top. But I'm thinking it will probably be the Angels/Cubs. It just might be the Cubs year.

A White Sox/Cubs WS wouldn't be too shabby either, it'd be one of the most entertaining WS ever at and away from the park thats for sure.

Curious to see what would happen if Tampa Bay won it since they have maybe one solid player. Especially if Price somehow stays on the roster. Other than that...go Brewers. Let's go middle America!

I think i'll go with Philly and Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Jimmy Rollins. Hopefully all three will continue to hit good and play good defence.

I think the BoSox would get by the ChiSox easily, and would probably squeak by the D-Rays, but I don't think they'll be able to hit well enough against the Angels. I expect the D-Rays to make the Series.

Manny may be Manny, but I don't think the rest of the team is good enough, so I believe the Cubs will beat them. And I think the Brewers top two pitchers are enough to win a five game series. Cubs over Brewers.

Cubs over D-Rays, just because it's poetic.

I guess you're assuming Sabathia throws 3 times this series?

Actually, I am a little worried about Gallardo because the Phils haven't seen much of him. Still, he'll have to match up against Hamels for two starts.

How does Bud Selig handle the trophy presentation?

LOL

.....I thought this was going to be about the start of hockey season, who cares about baseball? :)

At any rate, the playoffs are going to look weird without the Yankees, despite the fact that they haven't done crap in almost 10 years. That said, I'll be rooting for the Rays.

I hope the prick falls on it like Mr. Costanza did with the Fusilli Jerry.

+1

Let's go Rays.

Yankees are in lots of trouble, its going to be like the Mattingly years all over again.

Whoever wins the Sox/Angels series wins the WS. After the way the Phils played today (insert homage here), I really liked their chances. Hamels was virtually unbeatable, and they looked great.

WS - Phillies vs. whoever wins the Sox/Angels. AL wins it.

Personally, I think it depends on Myers. As much as I have a man-crush on Cole, he can't do it by himself.

And the Brewers pen still makes me nervous a bit. They have a few guys who will give the Phillies bats fits.

I know this thread is about the playoffs, but this line couldn't be more wrong.

1) they won 89 games this year with a million injuries

2) the yankees won the most games in baseball in the 80s

...But how was the front office and how many WS's did they win? It was an accurate comparison.

You made it sound like this is a dead team. And how was the front office? It started to build up the farm in the early 90s with a great GM. So yeah, I guess that you're right, it is sorta like the Mattingly days.

No no no, it's not a dead team. There's still a lot of talent there, despite what might be lost in the offseason.

There are some internal issues with the Yankees right now.

C'mon guys, it's not like teams like the Phillies, Brewers, or Rays get to the playoffs that often. Can we leave the Yankees talk for a time when they're actually playing?

I want the Phillies to win it all. Honestly, anyone but the Dodgers or Red Sox will make me happy though.

As much as I'd like to see that happen for the Phils, it will be tough for them to beat any of the Angels, Red Sox, or Rays. And they still have to get by Sabathia and most likely, the Cubs. Not that they couldn't beat any of those teams, but it will be tough if Myers doesn't bring his "A" game in a 7 game series. I think Moyer can have good outings against almost any team and hopefully the bullpen (which has been very good this year) will be well rested and on top of their game to finish Moyer's games.
