Warrior Does it again

the Johnson colors are a little weird but not that bad looking.

The target customers for those ads are obviously beer league guys and not minor hockey kids.

I've always assumed the target was high school kids. There aren't many adults who think pimps are awesome, but there are lots of 16 year old who think so. Kids also probably think they're getting one over on their parents by buy convincing them to buy stuff named Johnson, Sac, and Nutt Hutt. "Oh man, check this out, my mom totally bought this stick called the Johnson. That's slang for penis, I'm so clever and witty."

I guess in theory this type of marketing might attract new people/ideas to hockey, but it's lowest common denominator, which is not how I would choose to grow the sport.

"Johnson" has been slang for many years, I think most parents know what that means. I have a T-shirt from back in the 80's with Johnson Surfboards. For years people have put Johnson stuff on tshirts. It's not new. Unless you're from Rio Linda or Palm beach county, I think you've heard it.

I know the ones, Jimmy. Before the days of Hot Topic. etc- there was a tshirt shop in my local mall that had an entire spread of "Big Johnson..." tshirts, everything from fishing rods, tools, golf clubs... all with the same innuendo, and the oh-so-typical "Can't get yer job done without a Big Johnson" slogan on them. It's good to see Warrior so innovative, no pun intended.

I agree it is some what in appropriate. see the verbage in the add for the shaft...

It is definitely something different in terms of hockey product advertising. I don't think it is inappropriate, more funny if anything. If the parents of a hockey player are scared of their child being exposed to something as small as this, then they better get their son/daughter out of the sport quickly as it only gets worse (way worse for that matter) as they get older and approach the bantam and high school level.

what does "fubar" mean as in the glove warrior fubar? :)

Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition

I remember asking my spanish teacher how to conjugate that particular -ar verb. She didn't have much of a sense of humor though.

thanks. thats interesting that warrior has the guts to use these inappropriate words that most kids don't even know the meanings of

Seriously? That saying has been around forever.

kids that are younger that are buying the gloves and not knowing the meaning behind fubar. what would someone else's parents think of that and what they would think of the kid's parents?

I'd like to see a stick names the "RCH". A great ad would be "accurate to within a RCH". Kudo's to anyone who knows this one!

I know, but because I googled it.

... Also, with the Johnson Sac (you know, since that's the topic), you've got to love how they make a junior model of it. If they didn't do that, maybe I could buy that their marketing is supposed to be aimed at adults.

... Of course, I'm sure there are more than a few adults for whom the junior Johnson Sac would be an appropriate purchase, so maybe they're okay. HEY-OOO!

If it is not inappropriate to use heavy sexual inuendo to advertise or describe hockey equipment, then it is certainly AFU...

I think the word you're looking for is juvenile, since that is what I consider Warrior's marketing tack these days. I guess I know what Beavis and Butthead grew up to be, Warrior marketing execs.
