Avery IS back on the Rangers

Recommended Posts

That definitely isn't fair weather, haha.

I think you've heard my opinions on that team, I think at the core they are set for a nice long haul.

Tortorella and Avery should be interesting, that might be fun to watch.

Fair weather fan?

Best to wait till after the trade deadline to pick a new team.

No need. Will just root for the one that signs my checks.

Ever the man of mystery eh JR!

Good luck with whatever opportunity this may be, I won't claim to know you but it seems you've had your share and more of badluck (what with Zamboni fires, Jiffy lube and ruined gear) glad to hear things are looking up... I think. :)

I always liked Avery, good shot, little bit of a stirrer too.

But let's be realistic unless this guy wants to really knuckle down and start doing something allot of Rangers aren't ie: SCORING, this maybe just another waste of time in NYC.

Oh, how I miss the days of the Moose.

I think I'm the only Rangers fan that has missed him, I'm pretty excited to see if he can pump some life back into the team. Let's just hope his stint in the NHL anger management course has done him some good and tamed his attitude a bit.

I find it very interesting how so many people despise Sean Avery for a variety of reasons and could never bring themselves to root for him. Yet, I hardly hear anyone carry on about guys who consistently disrespect other players in the league by throwing elbows, slew-footing, hitting from behind, etc...Pronger for example.

Avery is a jerk, that's true. But I think the hatred towards him has kind of snowballed into an uncontrollable mess. There are players much more despicable on the ice than he.

Clearly. I mean look at all the other guys who were voted off a team by everyone affiliated with the franchise.

You're not the only Ranger fan that missed him. I'm friends with Dancin' (Homo) Larry on Myspace and Facebook and tons of people are happy he's back on his two pages alone. Sure, he's got his enemies though, lol. I myself am a little cautious. I think we look like a bunch of overpaid, under-motivated, pigs just sittin back collecting a paycheck. Perhaps God's presence on the team will be enough to get the the team going. I'm also not an idiot. Avery is not rehabilitated and will most likely be a ticking time bomb, once again. But if he causes a stir now and gives us a push into the playoffs then so be it. I also think that the league is in no mood to tolerate anything he does, so his effectiveness as a pest and so on will not be as good as it was last season. If he does anything questionable, you know the refs will jump on him faster than Kirk Muller to Mrs. Roy...Personally, I would like to have seen the money spent somewhere else to address real scoring issues but I think our lack of cap space dictated that we make a smaller move like this that doesn't cost a ton of cash.

And yes, I'll be in attendance on Sunday vs the Bruins to see God's triumphant return to MSG.

Yet the immortal Brendan Shanahan loved the guy when they were both in NYC....

also, I never mentioned a word about what players thought of him. I was referring to fans.

Shanahan was being a good teammate and sticking up for one if his guys.

Chadd, being a die hard Ranger fan I followed them day in and day out. Shanny and Avery were VERY close.

Funny, I had heard the complete opposite. Especially after the Blake situation. But hey, you're a diehard fan, you know what's up.

I doubt my sources were the same as JRs and glad to have some independent confirmation. I think people might be confusing Shanny being the closest thing Avery had to being a friend with them being best friends.

Funny, but I saw them leave MSG together and walk down to 8th avenue, get hotdogs and jump into a cab together, post-Blake incident. Not exactly behavior of two guys that don't like each other, but maybe seeing isn't believing.

Just because I go for a hot dog with a guy doesn't mean I like him. I'm mentoring a guy at work that I dislike, but for the good of my work team, I'm still trying to work with him to improve his skills. We occasionally go for lunch together and have even had hot dogs.

Shanahan, from everything I've heard is a pro's pro, I'm sure he would do a lot off the ice to help his team. Working with Avery on controlling his outbursts seems pretty reasonable, but not proof that Shanahan liked Avery.

Avery and Shanahan go back to their Detroit days when Avery was a rookie. Until one of us asks Shanahan ourselves, the bs here is bs here.

JR I'm certainly not saying that because I'm a "die hard" that I "know what's up" as you put it. I'm simply stating my opinion and observation, formed by watching every game and reading about the team every day. Opinions and observations are still allowed here, right?

Hey, if you tell me you know some of the behind the scenes happenings then I believe you. Either way, Sather is taking a BIG chance with this move.

Especially given Tortorella's public comments regarding Avery.

if nothing else, it' a bold move... and the rangers need a lot more than one bold move to change the direction they're heading. i was happy about torts, unhappy about avery, unhappy about kalinin and dawes etc. overall i'm happy sather is at least doing something. it certainly beats doing nothing. optimism for me.

From what I've heard about the Shanny/Avery connection, Shanny was basically a designated babysitter because for some reason he was the only guy Avery listened to. There was also scuttlebutt that Shanny wasn't exactly heartbroken when Avery was discharged from the Red Wings and that he was glad to be rid of him.

If Ranger fans have given Isles fans "Potvin Sucks" for decades...How loud do you figure the "Avery Sucks" will be tonight on Long Island?
