The NHL Retirement Thread

as per TSN and sportsnet Scott Niedermayer is calling it quits.

TSN Link

Not surprising at all as he said he only stuck around this year in order to play in the Olympics. One of the best skaters I've ever seen.

So Neids is pretty much a first ballot, first time lock for HOF....how about Blake. Does he go in?

Well, I thought Dino was borderline at best. You can never tell anymore.

The HHof class was a joke this year. Two builders, two women and one NHL player out of a pretty impressive list of guys that deserve to be in the Hall a hell of a lot more than a number of guys that are already there.

Blake may not be first ballot, but will be in eventually.

Dino is in, but they can't decide on Joe Nieuwendyk, Eric Lindros, Doug Gilmour, Adam Oates, Dave Andreychuk and Pavel Bure. I don't think all of them are in, but Joe or Doug?

I don't get this waiting game all the halls have if there are spots, they could have put 4 players in.

If he doesn't get in this year, why next year? what changes?

Self righteous Hall voters are very protective of the title "first ballot hall of famer." Obviously not all of them are on the ballot for the first time, but they like to make some guys wait just to outline the difference between a Messier and an Andreychuck.

Four cups, over a decade killing penalties on one team. As grinders go he had the ideal career.

Too bad his career ended with ''Do I play in the AHL or do I retire?''

Most careers do. It usually happens in the off season for most guys.
