2009-2010 Gear Sightings

Recommended Posts

Looks like all the visors have the logos blacked out. It's almost like Buzz Killington works for the IOC, they've almost destroyed Olympic hockey from a gear whore perspective.

The rules are dumb, but I think they made the glove manufacturers do some really cool stuff.

Funny thing hockey seems to be the only sport with blacked out logos, I haven't seen any blacked out skis or curling brooms or whatnot, only hockey gear. Weird phenomenom.

I've noticed quite a few skiers with tape over the logos on their goggles. But there doesnt seem to be a problem with any skis or boards.

Semin's gloves simply have white tape over them. Funny how they don't make Easton sticks be blacked out, they seem to have the biggest logo. Man that would suck if everyone used black sticks.

Probably to show who he used it against.

At first I thought an American EQM had snuck one over on him, but it seems it's a superstition he has for big games. Someone on PHEW said he had PHI on his stick against philly a few weeks ago.

I've noticed a few of the Russian guys (Radulov, Kozlov and someone else) wearing green gloves. This simply a comfort thing? KHL team gloves?

KHL team gloves.

Karsums is still wearing his AHL gloves, even though he's in the KHL now. A couple other players, like Pavel Kubina are wearing their team gloves too.

The solid green ones are players from Salavat Ulaev Ufa and the ones with red mixed in are from Ak-Bars Kazan

the ioc has a stranglehold on advertising/branding. they rule it with an iron fist. the ski manufacturer's have to pay the ioc to get their equipment approved for use at the olympic level, so when the skier finishes the run and immediately pops off a ski and holds the tip next to their face, thats the ONLY advertising they really get. the olympics is the best place to showcase your brand if you're a winter sport equipment manufacturer, the ioc knows this and they capitalize on it (win on sunday, sell on monday). goggle companies like oakley and smith seldom pay the fee because they don't rely on olympic events to gain exposure.

hockey stands alone at the top as far as camera exposure goes, and so the ioc limits the amount of branding the manufacturer's can have (ie. no brand logo hit on front centre of helmet, reduced logo size on gloves, etc). its a push pull thing, because the big hockey companies know that its the premier stage to advertise, so they pay, but the ioc knows the amount of exposure, so they limit logo hits/size.

I don't get why those players w/ their other team's gloves don't go into the Easton room and get a nice new pair of their country's gloves. It can't be sponsorship thing cuz they would have nice new ones. Sure I know there is a comfort factor but new gloves are new gloves!

Someone has to pay the bill for the gloves.

All I know is that the Easton rep was glad for any of the women to take gear as long as they used it.

Also, I forget if it was a Swede or a Fin but one of the Olympic women has blacked out Vapor skates, couldn't see if they had plain white laces but I assume she did it because she also refs?

He uses a new stick for every game so he puts the team that he plays against on it and i believe the date. I think chico was talking about it a little earlier this season. Doesnt have anything to do with big games.

even though you cant see what it says, you notice the writing on his stick
