Crosby converting to OPS?

Recommended Posts

I doubt their would be any money coming his way if he switched. All that matters is that his sticks look the same as the OPS. As long as he paints them the right way the sponsors wont complain.

this is a business, there's always money involved... especially when it comes down to "fixing" what isnt "broken" if you know what i mean.

either way, it was just a comment, i dont want it to snowball, so post a response if you wish and lets move on.

One of his goals this off-season, and something he, "promised," to the fans in Pittsburgh towards the end of the regular season was that he'd spend the summer improving his shot. The change to OPS may have something to do with him trying to make good on that promise. Just my own opinion.

I heard that RBK fuses wooden blades into composite shafts for Crosby right at the factory to make them one piece so of course they look like OPS - they come pre-painted etc

If he switches them often enough (which I'm sure he does) then the blade remains stiff enough so that his shot isn't compromised, so I don't really see how his shot is going to improve just from the switch?!

If he wants to improve his shot, going to a softer flex would have the most dramatic improvement.

If they went that far, why have the Sher-Wood logo on the blade?

no idea - maybe that was his old stock?

I'm just "selling for what I bought" :) - the guys said they saw it with their own eyes during the factory tour or something...

Unless I remember incorrectly, Dana Heinze said he changes his blades every ice time. I know his steel was every two weeks.

(it's the latter half of the video)

thanks for the link, that was a good show.

Dear god, he needs a new cup.

Watch him end up with an 80 flex stick, get a good shot this season, saying that a lower flex made all the difference, made to look like a genius and all stick companies will see a drop in sales for there 100 flex sticks. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Honestly, I know a lot of people who use 100 flex when they should be using 80/85/87, so maybe that would be a good thing for people to improve upon.

Sorry, don't want to hijack this thread but the Equipment Manager said everything with a straight face and held on to that cup for a good minute. "Every time we make an adjustment to this, we have to keep a piece of the original cup." Insert you own joke here...

It is all about personal preference. There is no definite answer on what anyone should be using. Some people like to load the stick, whereas others don't want any lag in their shot.

Very interesting article, good post. Its kind of funny when you think about all the money being spent on these high end hockey sticks when the best (top 5) hockey player is still using a two piece, with a wood blade.

After braking all my wood sticks I decided to try a OPS, and have been in a continues search for a OPS that gave me the same feel as a wood. I'm now going to try a two piece with a wood blade.
