RecLeagueHero 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2009 Actually, there's nothing anyone could do. You were in a public store and had no reason to expect any sort of privacy. Most of these businesses put signs up annoucning the use of video and photographic systems in use. Just like you couldn't stop someone from taking pictures of you in a public park, or on the street. Ahriman 1 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 You are free of course, to call that person an asshole, which they are.also: it's a business, not a government building, meaning its not "in public" however the "owner" (walmart) has the right to survey their property and you if you're on it. That doesn't give YOU the right to take any pictures you want to. They can, and should, force you to leave if you are doing that, which would be considered a form of harassment on their property, which also includes the parking lot. Walmart != forest preserve park. And I'd actually doubt your "right" to take pictures of people like that at a park too, assuming someone complained to a cop nearby and they caught you. Short of taking someone's photo on YOUR property, land you own, not rent, you dont have that right.

Let me rephrase it for some people to understand ; the people on this website could easily access it on either facebook or peopleofwalmart, i know the rickytic3 guy on youtube already knows about his appearance (and is happy and fine with it) but im sure people in less glamorous poses could easily be very upset and sue. sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 I thought it was only a no-no if you profit from it. I don't know if this site profits or if they just have it up for fun.

The Google Street view's defence is that "if you can see it from the street, it's public."

cptjeff 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2009 Yeah, no legal argument for shutting it down. If you're in public, you can be photographed. Just not a great server.

Short of taking someone's photo on YOUR property, land you own, not rent, you dont have that right.Actually, a business is held open to the public. There are three kinds of property: private property (a home), private property held open (businesses), and strictly public property like government owned parks. When property, like a business, is held open the public differing laws come into play. This is why it is perfectly legal to tell someone they cannot come into your home because they are white, black, or what have you. While it is highly illegal to put a sign on your business stating that you do not serve members of a certain racial group. You have no right to expect any sort of privacy on property held open to the public. It doesn't matter if it's Wal-Mart's cameras or someone with a cell phone. Wal-Mart staff could ask you to leave for taking pictures, it does not mean they have to do so. Or that you have any legal recourse for photos taken of you in a public space.I hate to inform you of this, but you can't stop people from taking pictures in public. It would be like trying to go get a cop to stop someone from photographing their child's peewee football game because you, or your child, were being caught in the frames. If you don't want to be photographed then stay out of public.
Ahriman 1 Report post Posted September 5, 2009 Show me where in "the law" where a business doesn't have the right to throw whoever the hell they want out of the store, which is what I stated. you only have the right to be in that store at the management's discretion. And then you can prove to me that you're STILL not an asshole for doing something like that in the first place.
