seems like a great reason to use your lhs

For the most part online shops are only useful for closeouts or if you live in an area without a shop.

but seriously, Great Skate charging $11.00 to UPS an Itech visor cloth? Really???? I'll find it elsewhere, thanks.

i guess that's the beauty of capitalism.

$11.98 for anything up to $50 on HockeyMonkey.

Probably close to that on HockeyGiant, $6.95 for 1800Faceoff.

Does your LHS charge shipping?

seems like a great reason to use your lhs. for smaller items, it seems worth supporting them instead of going for the usually cheaper online option.

Definitely, I just couldn't find it anywhere locally.

Working in a distribution type business, good rule of thumb for online ordering is to buy enough items/spend enough $$$ at same time to qualify for free shipping. Otherwise if you have a LHS shop there. Ask for a small discount to balance out having to pay sales tax. Only reason I shop online is like Chadd said, to find closeouts or things my LHS doesn't carry. Plus my LHS has 4 or 5 S19's I can pick up for $219 or $229(grip) right now and not wait til 10/22. :)

More often than not people add things they don't really need just to get the free shipping. Things that aren't any cheaper than their LHS and end up spending more than if they had just paid for the item they really wanted to be shipped.

Not to mention that most online places do not really have free shipping, they say shipping is free but usually tack on a mandatory $4 or 5.00 "handling fee" which very nicely covers their shipping expenses from their fulfillment center which is usually located in your part of the country. When they do charge shipping they make good extra $$$ off of you because they charge you shipping from say Calif to NY where you live, except of course the items are shipped from their fulfillment center in NY at very discounted volume UPS or FEDEX rates. That $11 Great Skate charges you really only cost them $4 to ship. Nice racket, isn't it.

Unfortunately I'm.. uhhhh... 100? miles away from a hockey store and i've gotta put up with UPS a lot.

So I'm a pro at shopping online :P. Just order above the usual "Purchases over 100$ get free shipping!" and order everything I want or need all at once.

I would say it's almost like people selling items on eBay for cheap. Yet, you win an auction and there is a crazy shipping charge. I know of at least a couple people who make most of their profit on an item on eBay by their shipping charges. I just ordered 2 sticks, a compression under shirt and am paying $16.95US for shipping (and that's coming from 2 locations). To me that seems reasonable. Plus, as I think it was Chadd, mentioned - the deals I got on the sticks were nowhere near what my LHS could do for price. It took a little bit of a hassle to get the goods ordered, but...... Otherwise, I support my LHS as much as possible. They have taken care of me, and I have given them lots of business - plus sent others there too.

Have to agree that is a bit steep :L, could you use a normal rag or something to save you on money ?

Go to your local Walmart and pick up a nice microfiber cloth if you want something nice, its what I did. Or just grab a regular old towel to wipe the visor down with.

That reminds me, when I first starting wearing visors I used a piece of diaper cloth from a fabric store. I didn't even think of going back that route. I just might revert.

Semi related, anyone been to best buy lately? For only $129.99 they'll set up your ps3 for you! Services include plugging in cables, setting parental controls, and updating to the newest firmware. What a deal....

Saw the picture on digg. A bit on the ridiculous side, but I bet people have paid for it. I'll also say that this is not a nation wide marketing idea, as that's the only Best Buy I've ever seen with the sign in the window.

Many eye glass stores/optometrists give out microfiber lens cleaning cloths for free; these are the best for shields. If they charge, it’s usually no more than $5.00.

The worst thing about online shipping is the extra fees incurred on returns/exchanges (more shipping, restocking fee, etc.).

That's why I only buy online when I'm buying several things, and generally only sticks. For some reason I cant find any CCM Lecavalier curves in the area :/
