The 2009-2010 Suspension Thread

Recommended Posts

Prime example, Sami Kapanen. That guy was on Queer Street but got right up and tried to find the bench.
great example. the way your brain works is quite incredible; im no brain expert, but i know there are parts that control your body's muscle movement. its completely unfair to assume seabrook was faking it just because he went 100% limp for a few seconds.

All I know is that when I experienced a similar hit but to the side of my head: my memory of the incident is completely out of order. So to call that bad acting job is a joke, the guy is clearly out.

Of course it's completely possible. I had that happen to me before. I got hit, blacked out for a few seconds, gained my composure and made it back to the bench under my own power. It seems that this is what happened to Seabrook.

This has happened to me too...and it certainly would be expected after Seabrook's head was bounced off the glass like a basketball. He also didn't look "chipper" on the bench afterwards, he looked pretty dazed and his helmet was messed up. Anyone who watches that video and thinks he was "acting" when his body goes limp and he drops to the ice is just delusional. You'd only think that after hearing that jerk-off of an announcer saying it, but if he was acting, he deserves an Oscar for that performance...

Wisniewski lined him up for a head shot, and accomplished his goal of knocking him out. The guy's a thug, and I have no respect for him or his kind in the NHL.

Here's the Chicago telecast of the incident, for a different perspective:

Very pleased with this suspension, not only does it properly punish the offender, hopefully it also sends a message to the rest of the players that open season is closed. But that's only hope, I'll believe it when they suspend someone for a head shot and not how they did it.

I don't think 8 games is a message, but I hope it curbs the bullcrap. Chippa had good points and if something happens near the playoffs from a player on a contender, that person gets the Hunter/Bertuzzi treatment. We're looking at you and your douchebaggery, Cooke.

this comment actually pisses me off. did you not see his helmet clearly come off? his head slammed into the glass after wisniewski locks on and acquires his target.

i dont see where you saw seabrook "look around" after the hit. his head made contact with the glass and he was out cold. it is obvious to me that seabrook experienced some sort of unconsciousness. with that kind of force, i would imagine it is very possible that seabrook momentarily lost consciousness then regained it moments later. just because you black out doesnt necessarily mean youre out for 10 minutes...sometimes it can be a couple seconds.

now seriously, how do you expect someone who is unconscious to fall down? i dont understand why this was a "bad acting job". if it is acting then he needs to find a career in hollywood.

My apologies. I only watched the hockey speed video. I didn't see it slowed down to the pace of golf. There's so many actors in the NHL now-a-days its sometimes hard to tell who is and who isn't faking it. I'm looking at you Ribeiro.

Trying to listen to Wisnewski talk about the hit is painful. He can barely get his point across/his story straight. I think he feels some remorse for his buddy but I he definitely does not regret his actions or feel it was a dirty hit.

Either way glad to see the league acted on this.

That is exactly what doesn't belong in the league. I echo the thought that Ovi's push/hit really didn't have any malice to it, and I'm sure he didn't expect the end result. That hit on Seabrook however was just an attempt to hurt a guy.

I'm assuming by the obvious bias in game calling, that was not the Chicago broadcast. "He looks like he's selling it." What a tool.

Not enough. He should be gone for the rest of the year. A 3rd or 4th D on a team that isn't going to make the playoffs is a perfect opportunity to send a real message. I know that those facts shouldn't play into it but it does.

I agree 100%. I'm sick of seeing this crap. It's not Hockey — it's garbage cheap shots.

What more will it take before the NHL steps up and handles this crap? A Death on the ice??? Guys like Chris Simon, Todd Bertuzzi and all of the other dirty goons that have blatantly attack another player with such an extreme intent should be suspended for a FULL season, no matter who they play for. After the full year suspension, they should be considered for a lifetime ban from the NHL.

I'm positive that stuff like this scares potential new fans away. Lord knows that the NHL needs fans right now...

I think they need to up the ante on fines as well. The NFL fines like CRAZY. $10,000-15,000 (or more) for hits that are too low or too high.

If it is the fringe players (for the mostly part) making these diry plays...those are the guys who make $650-800,00...okay MAYBE a mil and a half...but if they start fining bigger as well as the cash lost to suspension...maybe that will be more of a deterent.

That's a good point. If players are out 6 games and losing pay equivalent to missing another 3-4, they'll start to reconsider pretty damn quickly.

no worries. sorry if i sounded a bit melodramatic in my post :P

but i completely understand. guys like ribeiro and kovalev make all nhl players lose a little credibility when they cry wolf.

I disagree on the sending a message by means of non-cup contenders etc. Wouldn't it make a bigger splash to suspend someone on a team with a chance at the cup, proving that no one is above the new rule?
