Stafford21 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 Used the search but couldn't find anythingI was wondering if anyone knew of something that would add texture to your blade, kinda like the pro stock Z-Tac coating, maybe something spray on?
HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 These might not be exactly what you're looking for, but close.http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...=blade++texturehttp://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...=blade++textureTo those that have used Z-tac, what exactly is the purpose of the texture on the blade? Is it for extra grip? Protection? If it's for grip, wouldn't taping your stick completely defeat the purpose of it?
teamhystyk 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2009 silica sand and clear coat is just like the Z tac stuff that goes on a lot of pro blades. Just spray some clear and sprinkle some silica sand on your blade and add a little more clear. It really works. I will try and post a picture later tomorrow
caldakid 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2009 Have a pro stock with ztac.. seems to me it would make the blade last quite a bit longer. Ice wouldn't wear down the blade as fast
sweed 5 Report post Posted November 19, 2009 A little more friction on the puck. Better spin for saucers and shots. Aspecially for those who doesn´t tape the whole blade but I would say for everybody!
Neal 41 Report post Posted November 19, 2009 Chadd has me hooked on spraying my wood blades with truck bed liner. It adds some texture and grit to the blade. I honestly don't care about the grit, I'm just looking for the water sealing properties. But it does add what you want it to.
teamhystyk 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2009 Works excellent!! I sprayed my blade with black spray paint then added some clear and then silica sand and then more clear to seal. It is very easy and the more sand the more texture and grit.
cemetery 14 Report post Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) I found some spray stuff in the garage last night and decided to spray a stick I don't use much with it, it actually worked pretty nice and feels similar to the sandpaper finish on my Easton pro stock. It's called Rust-Oleum Textured spray. Edited September 10, 2010 by cemetery

Speedz98 15 Report post Posted September 10, 2010 And black spray paint in no way interferes with the durability of the blade? Also, how do you go about getting a matte finish, say on an s17?
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted September 10, 2010 A matte paint would be my first recommendation.
raygunpk 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2010 Can you skip the tape if you have that sprayed on?
Wildcat85 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2010 i made the bottom of an s19 shaft i have matte like the one95 with this testors matte finish clearcoat stuff.....looks really nice!
Scotty 8 Report post Posted September 12, 2010 Can you skip the tape if you have that sprayed on?I guess that depends on if you want the bottom of your blade to wear and don't like the dampening properties of tape.
Speedz98 15 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 i made the bottom of an s19 shaft i have matte like the one95 with this testors matte finish clearcoat stuff.....looks really nice!Do u know the specific brand and if home depot carries it? Does this impact blade durability at all?
tareatingrat 4 Report post Posted September 14, 2010 There's a product by 3M at Canadian Tire that I noticed about a month ago...don't know if there is something similar (aside from Z-Tac), as it's the first time I've seen it:3M Liquid Hockey TapeIt's more of a rubberized tacky/gritty liquid you put on after you've taped your stick. Says it takes 25 minutes to dry, I'd say it takes closer to an hour unless you use a fan or hairdryer.I actually love the stuff, as I find it gives me a little more control and really improves puck feel.Unfortunately, it can't take too much of a beating, and I have to re-tape and re-apply after almost every game. Your mileage may vary, but I've simply gone back to tape and wax.

Since some of you guys are doing this crazy grip stuff to the blade, has anybody given skateboard grip tape a try?Seems like a less permanent idea in case you decide you don't like a sandpaper blade. Wildcat85 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2010 i got it in the model paint section of my local hobby shop...it doesnt do anything to the stick other than give it a dull flat look ya its the dullcoat
Jarick 5 Report post Posted September 14, 2010 I tried skateboard grip and didn't like it, was kind of a pain to put on and get off. Feel was very crappy.
Brian Harte 1 Report post Posted September 14, 2010 Seems useless to me if you're going to tape the blade anyways.
Scotty 8 Report post Posted September 15, 2010 Might I ask, what the hell is the point of adding a ton of grip to the blade? Tape it, wax it if you want, and play.
Jarick 5 Report post Posted September 15, 2010 Cemetery, let me know how that holds up. I've got a nasty yellow looking blade I want to spray paint anyway and might give that a shot.
bdh13 1 Report post Posted January 27, 2011 I just picked up an x60 with a sandpaper blade. My simple question: Why?Should I use it without tape? I wasn't really planning on it, but otherwise the finish just doesn't make sense to me.

VegasHockey 1269 Report post Posted October 3, 2016 I just picked up Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield as one of the members on my team uses it over his tape. He said it makes the tape last longer and retain less water. He uses a very light coat. Anyone ever used this before? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-EpoxyShield-12-oz-Anti-Slip-Aerosol-Spray-268652/203483351
