Easton S19 helmet

Recommended Posts

I'd like to reiterate that the S19 helmet is ABSOLUTELY NOT an "one-and-done" EPS helmet.

Good. I'm glad that that's the case.

And with that being the case, I suspect they'll sell pretty well. Any word on if they'll keep the S17 though?

Yes, looking at the catalogue, it goes S19/S17/S13/S9/S7

Will there be any issues with face protection with the helmet being so light? I could see it tilting forward all the time because there's not a lot of weight to counterbalance the cage/visor in front.

S13? Will that be a 5500 type entry level EPP helmet?

I tried this helmet on in medium and large. My head size is 7 3/8, pretty standard. Large was too big and couldn't use the plastic back snaps to make it fit right. The old baseball hat back plastic strap is 100% correct. That is the only way to adjust for fit. I tried on a medium and it pinched the back of my head behind the ears. Yes, this helmet is wicked light but if it doesn't fit you perfectly, you cannot wear it. It has a very narrow profile. I imagine guys with Dumbo ears will never get it to fit comfortably with the HECC clear ear pieces hugging against their ears. Just more food for thought before you go coo-coo for Cocoa-Cocoa Puffs.

Actually, eliminate the center crown where the two pieces of the S17 or S9 come together over the top of the of the helmet and the S19 Z-Shock does look like the other two helmets. I just looked in the catalog to confirm this.

That's not looking the same. When there are rather small differences between something like helmet styling, a small change is a relatively big change. Example: NME helmet, Bauer *000 to NBH *500 helmets, etc..

So does it look the same as the S9/S17?

Negative.

Not exactly the same, but the look is along the same lines.

The shape and look from Bauer's 5500 to 8500 to 9500 is a relatively big change. Each helmet shape was designed independently of the previous helmet shape. Bauer had a long establishment of their helmet line by the time the 5000/5500 was introduced. Therefore, they could design new models with completely new looks. Easton is still trying to build a foundation in the helmet category. With that in mind, the shape and styling of the S19 is very similar to the S17/S9 in order to give brand recognition to consumers with the new helmet. Easton's idea of a one piece helmet is a big change but the styling is consistent with their previous models. Ultimately, we can let the consumers decide.

This is a pretty different style in appearance.

Sure it isn't the change between a 5500 to an 8500 but what is? Try comparing a 5500 to a 7500 and hear the "OMG what new Bauer helmet is that?" comments, this is at least that big of a change.

When I look at the Easton helmets, after having seen them at the Easton Road Show, and then in the catalog, I think stylistically they are very similar. That is my opinion. I have also just looked at the 5500 in this year's catalog and the 7500 in next year's catalog. I think these two models also look similar in style. There were tweaks to the 7500 shell but nothing major as from 5500 to 8500. At the end of the day, there is very little sex and sizzle in selling a helmet. Regardless of weight or appearance, if it doesn't fit a majority of players well, the helmet is in for a tough sell. And that buck-seventy price tag is not going to help.

^^ shades of Mission Carbster.

I was just thinking that. But a bit more stylish. I like it.

It looks very Carbster/Intake/and even CCM vectorish. Doesnt look like a bad helmet, but whats with the E floating on top of the shell instead of the front?

am i the only one who thinks it looks terrible? the earpieces just give me the bauer 1500 vibe.

i think its looks kinda bad but i can't seem to figure out what, maybe i'm just too attached to the current look, kinda disappointed they moved away from it

You have to think the majority of the guys will remove the ear coveres and the helmet will sit better on the head than what it looks likes in someones hand. I say keep your eyes open for someone to be sporting this soon enough unless it's already been done and weve missed it. Black would seem to be the most Stealth :D
