RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 Looks like an oversized iPod Touch/iPhone. I was disappointed to see 16/32/64G versions. I thought they'd have much bigger capactiy than that. And, it's not like it replaces a laptop...unless there are some decent Word Processing/Business Apps to go with it.The name sucks too, IMO...i(anything) woudl have been better. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 It's literally just a bigger iPod Touch with a book reader on it. The browser has no flash support, no camera, no phone. And 3G is only available on AT&T. LOL bunch of saaad Apple fanboys out there.

Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 Basically, when you take the keyboard/stand unit into consideration, it's a very thin, extremely light, slightly under-powered laptop with a touchscreen that can separate from its mechanical keyboard, and thereafter behave like a giant iTouch. The dealbreaker for me is that it doesn't have a camera, which means no Delicious Library barcode scanning in the library. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 No flash support? That's a big mistake. That's what makes it soo laughable. I HATE flash websites, they look great, the options are endless BUT they hog memory and are difficult to navigate at times... They're just more bad than good, imo. Many believe that html5 is the next step... but you can't limit a computer to no flash support. It's annoying enough at times to deal with it on the iPhone but on what is supposed to replace a computer, inexcusable. Does Jobs really think he's going to get me to dump my Windows laptop for this? There are 4-5 year old Windows based tablet computers than are more powerful than this thing.
Cobra2717 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 And 3G is only available on AT&T.Actually...not true. Any carrier that offers MicroSIM cards can be supported...its just that AT&T has a special data plan for it. I believe T-Mobile also offers MicroSIM.But overall, I thought it was kinda disappointing as well too. Definitely left out of stuff that could have made this thing really really awesome and unique. I cant believe there is no multitasking...especially given that this thing straight up flies on that new apple chipset.I was also disappointed in lack of iPhone news...but thats just me being greedy. The iPad's 3G modem supports UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850, 900,1800, 1900 MHz).So T-mobile(1700 Mhz) is out. Juice_Slowjamz 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 flash compatibility aside, this thing is perfect for me and my business. i'm all over it.semi-unrelated: steve jobs does not look well.Agreed, Flash has never been good on any Macs, even MacBook Pros. That's not Apples fault, but Adobe's fault. With that said, the fact that it has built-in file sharing and the ability to run iWork natively, opens it up to a huge business sector. Not to mention it's unlocked from out of the box. P.S.- He does look sickly. I hope he pulls out his treatment.
shotty 7 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 i've got to admit, though, being an apple fan, and having been stoked enough to buy into the categorial debuts a couple times before, i'm definitely going to wait until the follow up iPad comes out... the one that will have a camera or two (hopefully one above the screen like the imac and one on the other side like the iphone/ipod touch), larger storage and a bunch of other things that i'm not brilliant enough to think of. goaliemanshark 6 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 Former Apple employee here... The iPad is a piece of crap (imho)... Not only does the name suck, but it doesn't do anything special, not a single thing. The only thing saving it is aesthetics (the hardware and UI is downright phenomenal) and the very low price. I can't believe people are considering reading a book on that screen either. The reason the kindle works so well is because of its e-ink screen. The iPad is just gonna hurt your eyes. VERY disappointing product. Ill stick with my iphone/kindle/netbook setup. Much more powerful and versatile. Oh, i would wager this thing is not gonna be very durable, between the 10' sheet of glass and the first gen processor/chipset i would be worried about how long this product will last you.The iPod nano has a camera and the iPad doesn't? Are you kidding me? I still firmly believe that every product apple has released since the most recent iPod shuffle has not been very good...Anyone actually like the iPad? shotty 7 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 speaking to its durability: being that i've shattered an iphone screen, i wouldn't take that thing out of the apple store without this wrapped around it:and yes, i can see the immediate benefits of the iPad, so i like it. however, only the frenzied/gotta-haves will be fooled into investing in this thing before the 2nd gen ipad comes out with a camera (hopefully two, like i mentioned)
mack 44 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 I can see its attraction to those who go "ooh, Apple" and to those who are extremely casual to computers. I can see my grandmother using it, but it's not for me. I have an iPhone, MBP and a Kindle. I've no use for this.
camhockey16 5 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 i think this was a little bit disappointing - apple always makes a nice looking product - but there are just too many features that they left out to be worth it for me.no camerano flashno multitaskingonly at&t (basically)bezel is too large4:3 screen instead of widescreenmissing alot of needed ports (like usb)should be running osx - not the iphone osi realize if they would have included alot of these that then the price would have gone up - but i think most people would have been ok with that if it made it awesome.i'm thinking this is going to be a repeat of the apple tv that has never really taken off. Rustpot 1 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 How do you hold onto it? I had enough problems keeping my iPod touch from slipping out of my hands. If I can't wrap my hand around it and I can't really put my thumb on the front of it and still use it, do I just cradle it in the nook of my elbow like a baby?It needs a peripheral to be used on a desk, sitting flat isn't going to be practical. It will probably need a peripheral keyboard to use it seriously, I can't imagine a no-feedback touch keyboard like the iPhone/Pod for full-length documents. No scribble recognition or stylus for on screen annotations or drawings pretty much makes this a tablet that you can't use the best part of a tablet on. The #1 thing I love about tablets is being able to take pdf class notes or other documents and highlighting, drawing figures, making notes in the margins, etc. Although I'm sure there's an app for that

Jobs can talk about the iPad you keep in the kitchen all he wants, but there is no way I am dropping 500 bucks for 16GB of storage at the lowest price point. Thanks but no thanks Apple. furlanitalia 1 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 Honestly still on the fence over this one. I'd say the biggest disappointment from yesterday was no iPhone OS 4.0. It needs to have multitasking, even if it is just a card view style that is found on the Pre.Camera would have been nice for iChat. The iWork suite looks nice, but I'm not sure how productive it is if you have to use a keyboard and your fingers (although I'm sure the magic mouse works with it - I would hope). As for 3G, who says this can't bluetooth to iPhone and tether? Major battery hog but really how often do you need 3g access?I really like the new calendar app and the fact that everything looks good and just works. But how do I transfer my music to this from my current computer? I have a hard enough time setting up iTunes every time I get a new computer, and I still don't think my iPhone ever syncs correctly because it's programmed to work with my old laptop, and I don't feel like losing my settings. I think the framework is in place to make an amazing product that will fill the gap that they want, but much like the first iPhone it will take a couple revisions to get it to a place that makes more than just the fanyboy and crazed person extremely happy. camhockey16 5 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 i would still have to say the most disappointing thing was that iphone wasn't announced for any other networks - i know there were tons of rumors that you were going to be able to get verizon, and i suppose it could still happen at some point, but that was the most disappointing thing for me. Juice_Slowjamz 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 I thought this was a good read.http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/01/28/ipad.re...f=ib_topstories"The thing is, Apple didn't omit a camera or multitasking by accident. An engineer didn't come up to Steve Jobs on Tuesday saying, "I don't know how to tell you this, Steve, but we've forgotten about the camera. No, please, not the head! Ouch!" They've omitted all these things on purpose, and this purpose tells you more about Apple's plans than the things they did put in. ...Once again, it becomes clear that Apple doesn't want to sell devices that can do everything; they want to find the best form factor to consume some types of digital content, and then focus on them. If you look at it, you can do pretty much everything on your personal computer; by that philosophy, you don't need anything else besides a laptop. And yet, you've now got smartphones and e-readers selling very well. Could it be that one powerful device is not as good as several less powerful, but more focused ones?" goaliemanshark 6 Report post Posted January 28, 2010 I really dont like how apple is positioning this as an ebook reader. Sure it can read ebooks, my iphone, netbook, desktop and kindle can all read ebooks. The reason i read books on my kindle is because of the difference in screen. Reading a ebook on my netbook just hurts my eyes, a lot. I hope people realize this before they waste their money on an (Maxi) iPad
