Heavy Metal Hockey

Recommended Posts

I just got invitation to join the Heavy Metal Hockey group on facebook. I have never heard of them and a quick search for "heavy" or "metal" in titles returned no good results.

Have anybody heard about them? It looks like a training system with some kind of special steel stick.

Same concept as using a weighted puck for stickhandling and shooting. The voiceover on the video is horrible, sounds like they did it at home on their PC/Mac. You just know some asshole is going to buy this stick and use it in a game.

We have them at a place near me called Total Hockey Academy. I have used them once or twice, and man are they heavy. I would recommend sticking with weighted pucks, although one theory is that altering the stick or puck weight will also alter your form negatively.

Also they had some dumbass take a slapshot with one, which left a bow in the stick.

They use those things down at the Shattuck St Mary's. The Lamoreux twins from Team USA use them all the time. They really strengthen the wrists and arms because they weigh a ton. I'm in such crappy shape I can't even stickhandle for more than a few seconds with one. If you started training with one you will definately get stronger.

A little off topic and please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't John LeClair the one stickandling with a tennis ball? The idea being that if you can stickhandle a tennis ball, you can stickhandle just about anything

I don't see a price, anyone know it? The concept makes sense but if it weighs too much or you don't already have proper form it could definitely have a negative effect because players will have too alter their shot due to the weight.

you could just fill up a shaft with water for free and use the money on a gym membership.

tape pucks down the shaft?

good idea, but that price is a bit steep.

It isn't really a good idea. If you want a heavier stick to build muscle buy a wood stick or tape a couple pucks to the lower shaft.

Going to the gym and doing what most people do in the gym won't really build the same muscles you'll use stickhandling.

the point is, there are ways to do it without spending $235 on a stick.

Apparently not an original idea either. I stopped in at Strauss in Maplewood, MN last night and they had a pile of older stock. Mixed in there was a bright yellow Sherwood Heavy Metal shaft that was made of steel and weighed very roughly 5 pounds. It didn't have a price on it.

I just want to address a few of the questions on the board. We apologize for the quality of the training video, they are being updated as I am writing this. As for the Heavy Metal Hockey Stick, the way that it differentiates from any other metal training stick is that is it correctly weighted so it feels and performs just like a regular hockey stick. Training the correct muscles will guarantee a stronger shot, quicker release and improved performance. It can be used for more than stick handling. Take it out on the ice and see how it performs and than grab your regular stick and feel the difference for yourself. This product is not a gimmick it is designed for those who take hockey seriously and who are serious about becoming better hockey players. Any other questions please let me know and I will be happy to address them.

I just use a 5030 with a full roll of tape down the shaft. Granted you can't have a lot of tape up at the handle to let the tape slide down and it does occasionally get in the way but it works in a pinch.
